There have been some questions about weaknesses, so I thought some examples might be helpful. These weaknesses were used on Pre-Reboot characters, but still could apply to characters currently. Though these could be reused in one form or another, the list is mainly to get your creative juices flowing. If you need more ideas go look in the archived character posts--there are some pretty good ones!! ~ Peregrine Here is a sampling of power specific weaknesses: healing-- Lee is unable to use his healing capabilities if he senses he is in immediate danger. InvisibilityWhen Raptora is invisible her shadow can still be seen. InvulnerabilityBecause every aspect of Cain’s body is so hard, if ever his invulnerability exceeds his strength he will be unable to move. Shock wave generation--Riddly can only access his concussive abilities by snapping his fingers. Snapping a single hand results in only half of the concussive force. pyrokinesis --Because his pyrokinetic powers function based on his body generating and storing kinetic energy, Hector must run a proportional amount before being able to use his heat powers. (i.e. in combat one round of running at a speed of, say, 2, would equal one pyrokinetic attack of 2.) Speed--Like a cheetah, he can't run constantly at such a speed. He can run a distance of eight miles before having to slow down and rest a while. Aquakenesis---Has to have use of his hands to control the water. If his hands are bound or restrained in any way, he can't use his ability. Super hearing--Lorilyn is prone to headaches, particularly when consciously using her super hearing. There is one chance in six that her Super Hearing will be halved due to a headache. Invisibility--For some reason, certain organic materials remain visible even when in contact with Silas's skin. These include silk, cotton, and linen, rubber, gold, silver and iron. Kinetic Energy takes two seconds longer than the normal time to charge. Strength--Roy's digestive system and cells are super-humanly efficient at processing nutrients. He possesses super-strength due to the fact that all his muscle cells receive extreme amounts of energy and can handle it. Thus, if he is malnourished for a while, his strength will fade and then disappear. Allergies, fears, and time limits * Randi is allergic to alcohol. The slightest taste (or its presence in her blood stream) causes her to go unconcious for 2-4 hours, and her abilities don't return for about 6. * Klippers abilities are negated by the presence of any metal within his body, be it syringe, bullet, or shrapnel. This inability remains until the metal is removed. * Lee's living radar does not detect the elements silver or gold. * She can stay in another form for only 20 minutes * Perhaps having something to do with the way in which he originally obtained his powers, Kevin's strength is nullified in any part of his body submerged in water. This is likely a mental block of some sort caused by the severe strain his mind has undergone over the last two years. * He cannot use his invisibility for a half hour after he has eaten. * Hal Ryan is an hydrophobe and completely loses his abilities when submerged in water. This was due to a traumatizing childhood occurence where his older brother attempted to drown him in the water trough behind thier home. Hal himself has very little recollection of it and claims that his brother and he were simply playing. * Ralph has Batophobia, meaning he is afraid of heights or high buildings. He's much more at home on the ground or far away from windows of multiple (fifteen or twenty and up) stories up. He freezes or tenses up and can not perform properly in this situations, as his concentration becomes half of its normal performance. * Danny has minor arsonphobia and loses half his concentration if suffering from a burn injury, however minor. * He is allergic to gun powder so he cant use guns. * Because of the event that caused Liz's abilities to manifest themselves, her Power Negation is not as effective on metas with Pyrokenisis. Her level on Power negation is the equivalent to two levels lower when using it against Pyrokenisis. * Kent's Pyrokenesis was created through various chemicals and certain chemicals(Bleach and Ammonia in particular) have disasterous effects on him causing dizziness, loss of powers, loss of control, and can even put him in a coma. Cleaning chemicals do the most damage. * Due to the nature of the treatments, which dealt with high concentrations of light, Climaco’s abilities work only when it is rather dark, such as early dawn, dusk, or night. * Ava’s abilities are weakened when petroleum based liquids come in contact with her skin. Rechargeable/object based * Her powers are recharged by a white-gold necklace she wears. It is a simple chain with a small pendant, the pendant has a scarlet stone. She has to be in contact with this for at least thirty minutes (which will give her abilities 12 hours of use), but as a rule she simply does not take the necklace off. * For some reason, possibly because the large piece of metal that lodged in her arm during the storm, the character's powers are recharged by aluminum. She must be able to touch aluminum at least once a day in order to keep her ability to control the wind. However, while she requires this metal to maintain her abilities, at the same time she is allergic to it. If her skin touches Aluminum for any more than one minute she will become dizzy and disoriented, at two minutes she will pass out. She hopes this is some sort of a mental block that will resolve itself in time, though that is unlikely. * Helen must be wearing her wedding ring in order to phase. * His force fields only work for a time limit of up to twenty minutes before recharge is needed (see weakness above) * Rachel must have a specific drug as frequent as her vitamin supplement to keep her focused at her agility and help generate it or it will function at half its power and improperly. This is because she found it helpful to her agility and got hooked, but it weakened her system. Now she will not function properly without it, as most drug(steroid, etc.)users end up learning. In fact, they really don't function properly with it either. Creative miscellaneous * Slithy Tove's brain, wound up as it is, requires a little more winding up to function fully. If, therefore, he is not spinning around his coordination is reduced by half. * the first time he changes into an animal he will be stuck as an animal, he will however be able to change from one animal to another. Just not back to his human form. His animal forms can talk. * Having been gifted not with a meta-gene, but in fact with a highly advanced DNA mutagen, Jenny’s abilites can be permanently cancelled by exposure to regenerative stem cells. |
