I agree with Justin that I would like to see more done on the Congo. However, I am also interested in a player controlled Iraq. Relations with Kurdistan would probably be negative seeing as Kurdistan as done all its can to annex Iraqi Kurdistan, and Kurdistan's current ambitions which would include occupying parts of Iraq such as the city of Mosul if they manage to clear out ISIL.
One question though would be if the Iraqi king is Sunni or Shia. Seeing as the current problem in Iraq has roots in the Shia-Sunni divide I would recommend the royal family became Shiite so they could get the support of the majority Shiite population, and like the Shiites did after the 2003 invasion subsequently oppressed the Ba'athists who were mostly Sunni which (massive oversimplification here) helped sow the seeds for the creation of the Sunni ISIL.

Yes, I will be getting to the Congo more. I just noticed that some people have more than one nation and thought that Iraq would be interesting.

I'm not sure the Iraqis would vote for a Sunni. You see, the Iraqi population is mostly Shiite, but only barely, and traditionally Sunnis have been in power. One of the reasons Saddam Hussein was so hated in Iraq was because he was a Sunni who oppressed the Shiites and kept Sunnis in high positions of power (kind of how the current Syrian government is a Shia Alawite one despite Sunnis being the majority) After his removal from power people voted on religious lines, hence why Nouri al-Maliki and his Islamic Dawa Party got into power -its policies are basically based around how much better Shiites are then Sunnis. As the majority of the population was Shiite they voted for Shiite parties, who started to oppress the Sunnis, with a lot of former Sunni members of the government and the military being thrown out. The reason why ISIL is well led and well trained is because a lot of their commanders are ex-members of the Iraqi army which in its heyday was pretty effective. I can't see the Iraqi people vote for the King unless he converted to Shia Islam and appealed to Shiites or allied with a Shiite party such as the Islamic Dawa Party and take a ceremonial role - for him it would be a win anyway as he would not have to worry about the Ba'athists as he would have the Shiites on his side thus protecting his position. The Sunnis would still be pissed off though.

I was thinking he would, 1) take advantage of the country's instability after the 2003 invasion and would promise to restore order through strong leadership, appealing to voters, and 2) declare his neutrality on the Sunni-Shia tensions and promise to rule the country without favoring either side.

I would recommend that the government would still consist primarily of Shiites, possibly in a coalition with the Islamic Dawa Party. That would mean that on the surface the two sects are getting along (something the US would love) but would be enough for the Sunnis to still form ISIL in anger of feeling misrepresented. The King himself may get away with his religion, but the government would probably be very Shiite friendly.

The Iraqi Hashemite dynasty, including the current pretender, are indeed Sunni.
Very well.
I which case I accept the application. I look forward to seeing what you have in store
Can you tell me, when Kurdistan occupied Iraqi Kurdistan (what year)? What were some of the details of this event?
