24052.06.31 The waves crashed against the coast of the Vo Ki as the morning sun rose above the horizon. Bunzi was coming to life for a day of work, trade, and prayer as was typical for a village its size. Tu, a fishmonger from the northern part of the village was setting up his shop. He had prayed to Yuki and Yuno and to all his ancestors that today would be a profitable day. He had a wife, Kuzi, and two children, to support and look after. He went down to the harbor, where he met his friend, Mon, a supplier of wide varieties of fish. "Today's catch has been bountiful" Mon said. "My prayers have been answered" Tu replied. "Did you pray last night?" "No, I could not find the time. Vunzo thought she was going into labor" "The gods understand. May Yuki cast your child into order" "Thank you." "How much do I owe you for this catch?" Tu asked. "Thirty-two fons," Mon replied. "Hefty. Does that include the paisudo?" "Only for you." "Thanks" "No worries. May Yuno bless you." Their exchange of money, fish, and goodwill was interrupted by a ship that was coming into view. "Are you expecting anyone else?" Tu asked. "No..." Then Tu saw on the sails of the ship an image of a tiger below which was a six-pointed star. The Haidush. "THE HAIDUSH!" Tu and Mon both exclaimed at the same time. The entire village burst into life. Every man in the village was rushing to the coast with a weapon in hand. The women and children fled towards a temple not only as it was the most fortified but also to beseech the gods for mercy and strength. Mon raced back to his house to retrieve his spear. He found Vunzo, sobbing and panicking. "My wife, you need to leave here. The Haidush are coming." "Zang-ko1, I will not leave you. What if I give birth to our child?" "You won't. The gods will it. I will return. But you need to stay safe, promise me." "As you say. I love you" "I love you, too" Mon came back out armed and prepared and met Tu once again, who was also readied with a blade. "I say we fall back to the hill and make them climb," Tu said. "I agree" They both commanded a group of fifty to seventy men to follow them up the hill. The Haidush, a terrible nation of raiders, looters, and rapers began flooding onto the coast, screaming terrifying battle cries "HEYEYEYEYEYEYEYE" Tu and Mon could hear coming from the distance. The sound of fires being started and houses being raided soon followed. Tu and Mon made it to the top of the hill in time, already exhausted, surrounded by half the village, ready for battle. The Haidush marched forward, towards the temple, where they knew the women were being kept. They hoped to take several back to their homeland to sell into slavery. Tu and Mon's group on the hill formed a human wall that the raiders had to break through to reach their final loot. The first to be slain ran down the hill in a moment of frenzied pride and rage. He screamed his own battle cries before being impaled decisively by a Haidush warrior. The others held their ground. One by one, Haidush warriors advanced up the hill, taunting their opponents all the way up. Finally, most of the raiding party had reached the top, and stared face-to-face with the male population of Bunzi. "Lay down your weapons and you will be granted your life," said one. "Never! We call upon the goddess of chaos to give us strength and dispense of you" said Tu. The other men joined him in angered prayer as they stood steady. They were outnumbered. There was approximately two hundred Haidush, two-thirds of whom were standing right in front of them. The rest were taking their livelihoods back to their ships. The Haidush stood for a moment, perhaps waiting for a futile chance that the Bunzi men would instead surrender. When that did not happened, they charged. The Bunzi men repeated their prayer louder: "YUNO GIVE US THE COURAGE AND POTENTIAL TO KILL OUR ENEMIES. PROTECT US!" The Haidush neared closer and closer. "YUNO GIVE US THE COURAGE AND POTENTIAL TO KILL OUR ENEMIES. PROTECT US!" Tu saw the whites of a Haidush warrior's eyes and the gleam of his blade in mid-swing. He raised his weapon to block, while never breaking unision with the rest of his cohort. "YUNO GIVE US THE COURAGE AND POTENTIAL TO KILL OU-!" The blade slashed his throat and he collapsed to the ground, blood spurting everywhere. He lost his own blade and did everything he could to keep himself in the fight, even biting the ankles of who he thought was the man who killed him. But before he realized it, he had faded into the darkness. He had moved on to the higher plane. Edited by Goldentrash, May 25 2018, 08:40 PM.
