Is this class really as life changing as people make it out to be? I'm looking for a nonintense class to add to my schedule next semester. Would psych fit the bill?

I wouldn't say it's life changing, although it's pretty fun. It's one of those classes that you definitely enjoy going to.
As for non-intense, there's a lot of reading involved, but the prelims and final are multiple choice and aren't as intensive as some of the other psych courses (like PSYCH 2800). A lot of the questions came from the online quiz database and the study guide.
I think last semester, the average for the exams were consistently in the high Bs. There are also chances to get extra credit through participating in experiments and showing up for class.

Thanks! Is it mostly memorization though? And is there a lot of hw?

It's basically all memorization of key facts.
There's no homework that's due everyday since it's all reading-- you could probably get away with not reading some of the text (but it's not advisable).
He'd assign like 2-3 chapters per day, along with some supplementary reading and maybe some online reading as well.

I heard this class is basically Dr. Maas saying, "I'm Doctor James Maas.....and I am great.....so you should be honored to be listening to ME lecture....and even more honored to be in my legion of attractive blonde TAs."
