OWNED by Barzinis On the top floor of a Northwest Bronx apartment building is Tommy’s penthouse, from where he does a lot of his business. A huge, plush suite, Tommy shares the top-dollar apartment with his personal bodyguard Alexi, an ex-Spetsnaz killer who owes Tommy his life. His brother Mario is there most days as well, naturally armed to the teeth. The apartment is massive, comprising three bedrooms (two with en suite bathrooms), a large separate bathroom, and a massive lounge, spacious and fully-stocked kitchen and three spare rooms, one of which Tommy uses as his office and another as Alexi’s security station/armoury. The balcony thirty storeys above the street look out over the whole Bronx, even up to Manhattan and naturally, all the electronics and equipment in the penthouse is state-of-the-art. More than Mario and Alexi’s formidable combat skills, Tommy’s put a lot of money into technical security. First of all there are four CCTV cameras strategically placed around the floor. One covers the single elevator coming to the small foyer in front of the penthouse door. Another one further on covers the stairwell and the door, constantly swinging left and right. Two more cover the large balcony and the fire exit, both fitted with infrared. All four lead to a set of monitors in an alcove in the guest bedroom/security station, and no one enters Tommy’s place without getting vetted by the cameras, or getting a sweep from the handheld metal detector the Leggio’s keeps outside the door. Tommy keeps them close as well for extra muscle. When he’s at the penthouse two of them are in the foyer, waiting to “receive” anyone who comes up. Another is downstairs in the lobby to scope out trouble and the last one is in the apartment with Tommy. So they don’t get complacent in their duties, the brothers positions are rotated every other day. As an added measure, Tommy slips the desk clerk an extra few hundreds a week to call him the second anyone enters the building heading for the top floor. All the doors are reinforced, the main entrance being made of thick steel, impervious to anything short of an RPG. The windows are all bullet proof, and both they and the doors are linked to a top-flight alarm system. Tommy has large, steel safe in his office, to which only he knows the combination. Usually the drugs and weapons are stashed elsewhere but Tommy and his boys have made some minor modifications to the walls and ceilings, forging out some effective and surreptitious hiding places in the apartment, if they need them. Come down and we’ll talk business: Tommy will be there more than anywhere else. Just don’t get any stupid ideas, or you’ll be leaving via the balcony. -------------------- THE RYDERS OUTFIT "Killing is negotiation..." Underboss: “Ryders” Barzini.
