White Rabbit

Lei stepped into the packed room, a fearless mask on her face. The people in the room wore mixed expressions but she didn't really care. Most likely they were trying to get answers out of her but she wasn't about to give them the satisfaction. It was then that she noticed Jamal. The glare she gave him rivaled any she'd given or received before. It was this idiots fault that she'd been detained. "Lei." She answered. There were a few murmurs around the room. She turned to look at the man who'd spoken to hear with a look that angered him more. "You will announce your full name before the council." Lei rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to glaring at Jamal. "Lei Mura Athha." She sighed as the gasps floated around the room. If she'd started some conversations earlier, it was nothing compared to now. The somewhat hushed conversations from earlier were gone. People were practically yelling at this point. Some people called her a fraud, others seemed to pale. Even her aunt and uncle were speechless. They looked like ghosts. At the end of her scan of the room, she noticed something that made her pale. It was as if her whole world came crashing down. Sitting there were two people. The most impossible people to appear before her. No, it couldn't actually be them. They were dead, gone. They'd been killed five years ago. That's why she'd left, to get revenge. So there was no way they could be sitting there right now. "Quiet down everyone." The voice seemed so surreal, this whole thing seemed surreal. Was this a dream? She glanced at Jamal as her memories came flooding back, the ones she'd tried so long to suppress. "....Jamal....?" If she knew one thing for sure it was that this was actually Jamal sitting there. The other two might be impostors but he was real. She had to hold back the tears that threatened to show. How could this all be real? There was no way she was here, reunited with these people. "But...how?" She heard the disbelieving voice and turned to the blond who resembled another of her past. Lei began to look around wildly, feeling an onset of dizziness. It was all too confusing. It was as if the very ground she stood on had been pulled out and replaced with the ceiling. None of it made sense. Deron sighed and sunk down into the seat. A redhead sidled up next to him, offering him some milk. He shook his head and continued to stare down at the table. "She'll come back. You'll see." the girl said, trying to comfort him. She put a reassuring arm across his shoulders but he shook it off. "No, I won't see. She's down there because of me. And do you know what's down there?" The pigtailed girl watched him carefully, shaking her head. "Her childhood, Danni. Everything she's been running from." Deron stood up, leaving Danni at the table along with his dinner. He had no desire to eat or do anything other than rescue Lei. At least Anakin seemed to agree with his intent to get her back, whatever his reasoning was. The blonde made his way back to his quarters for a sleepless night. |
