7 September

Rest day. Spent a lot of it doing website work.

8 September

I've seen a course in breakdancing later this year, so I've decided to take it up again! In the meantime before the course, I'm going to mess about with my handstands, freezes, etc. Tonight did:

Psuedo press ups
Baby freeze
Headstands
Handstands
Headstand into handstand (freestanding) - nearly got it!

9 September

Conditioning

30 secs snatch LHS, 30 secs snatch RHS
30 secs clean and press LHS, 30 secs clean and press RHS
30 secs swing LHS, 30 secs swing RHS
3 rounds, 90 secs rest between rounds, 20kg KB

Round 1: 14, 14, 7, 7, 14, 14
Round 2: 13, 14, 6, 6, 14, 13
Round 3: 12, 13, 6, 6, 12, 13

Finished with some TGUs with my 12kg KB

Notes: I have made a decision to use gloves for my KB work now. Main reasons:
1) With gloves, my transition between snatches is much quicker. When doing tabata snatches without gloves, I get around 7 per 20 secs work rate. With gloves, I was hitting 14 in 30 seconds above.
2) When doing high rep work with KB (which is all I use it for now as 20kg is no longer a strength feat), my hands always end up fooked. Never a problem before, but now I am planning to do more breakdancing, I spend a lot of time on my hands, so the better condition they are in, the better practice I can get.

Just to clarify, I will not use gloves when doing low rep strength work (e.g. sets of 5 and below of DB snatches in the gym, deadlifting, cleans, etc), just on the high rep stuff.

10 September

Overslept a little this morning, so didn't have long to train on my rings. Did some technique work on:

- false grip pull ups
- ring swings
- dips (ensuring max range of motion)

Finished with some body rows and press ups

28 August

5 mile run - 37 mins 48 secs (PB by 52 secs!)

11 September

5 mile run - 37 mins 58 secs (10 secs slower than PB)

Notes: The 5 mile run I do is a time trial. We all start staggered, so the slower runners go first, and the faster runners last, idea being that if everyone runs a good race, we get some close competition at the end of the race. I arrived at the start on time, but a few of the lads decided to go early. So I thought I had someone slower in front of me, when in fact they were faster. I caught them up after a mile and I was flying - probably on for 35 mins... Then I got hit by a stitch about 2.5 miles in, that I just couldn't shift! So all in all, 10 secs outside of PB is not at all bad! If we all start at the correct time next run, I should be able to get a more sustainable pace in, and hopefully beat my PB!

11 September PM

More breakdancing stuff:

Psuedo press ups - continued moving hands towards waist
Baby freeze
Headstands
Handstands - managed a 15 sec freestanding hold after kicking off wall
Headstand into handstand (freestanding) - closer than last time!

12 September

Rest day. Went to visit our friends and godson.

13 September

Became a rest day too as was visiting family

14 September

Spent 30 mins handbalancing (or trying to!)

15 September

Out to the park at 6.15am:

Magic 50
8 mins 34 secs, 20kg KB

PB by 34 secs, but that was tough so early in the morning. Didn't think I'd have the energy to finish it!

15 September - PM

Did a bit of handbalancing. Managed to do a frogstand, to headstand, to press, which although isn't overly impressive it's a step in the right direction for a press to handstand!

16 September - Lunchtime

Just been out to the hills at work for the following:

Sprint hill
10 press ups
x 10, 15 mins 22 secs (time is only relative to my hill, but noted to track my progress)

Burpee long jump up hill
32 burpees, 3 mins 48

Notes: First time sprinting hills in ages! And one of the only times I've sprinted on my own, so it became more difficult to keep going towards the end. Ran in my new running shoes and it made a big difference, and my sprints felt like a more all out effort. I forget how easy that looks on paper but how tough it is in reality - after the sprints, all the blood rushes to your legs, so press ups become difficult!

Still, job done :D

17 September

Rest day. Went out for drinks in London.

18 September

Been doing a lot of running recently, but have neglected leg strength.

Lower Body Strength

A: 3 x 3 pistols per side (8kg, 12kg, 12kg)

B: Glute ham raise practice - negatives, assisted push ups, relatively small rom

C: 100 BW squats - 2 mins 24 secs (squat down to 11" tall bin)

Kept the pistols light because my balance was off from not doing them recently, plus I didn't want to fatigue before the GHR. Decided I finally want to learn the GHR, and found a great anchor for my feet using my sofa! Humbling exercise, but will stick with it!

Off to Cork, Ireland for the weekend, so if I'm not on later tonight, I'll catch you on Sunday! B)

Back from Ireland - had a great time :)

21 September

1 hour breakdancing - working on headstand freezes, and some of the basic steps that I'm pretty rusty on now!

22 September

4 pistols 6kg
8 press ups 10kg
12 sit ups 6kg

5 rounds, took just over 10 mins

Then spent some more time on handstands. Trying to correct some of the errors in technique I have built up over the years. Managed 17 seconds freestanding.

23 September

100 burpees - 9 mins 17 secs

Notes: A way off my PB (6 mins 55), however:

1) First time I've done the challenge first thing in the morning (6.15am) - it was still dark outside!
2) Because it was so early, the ground was quite slippery due to moisture.

Excuses aside, it got done (was meant to do it yest morning but didn't make it out of bed!) and I've got a time to build upon. Will do this again in 2 weeks...
