Stephen Rice
Some of you may have seen the announcement of Stephen's death in yesterday's Times, deliberately placed by Lesley on the day of the Listener puzzle's publication. Lesley has provided me with the following details:

"There will be a Service of Thanksgiving for Stephen’s life on Friday October 20th at 11am at St Mary’s Church, Burgh Heath, Surrey, KT20 6AW.

All are most welcome to attend.

There is no dress code for the service, so please wear whatever you would like to.

I would be grateful if you would please not send flowers; the church will be decorated for the occasion.

I would like to invite you to linger after the service to say hello, and to share some light refreshments before your journey home.
(If you have important dietary requirements, and let me know as soon as possible, I will try to ensure there is something suitable for you).

Please do not worry if you are not able to attend. Perhaps instead, when we are holding the service, you could join us in spirit from wherever you are at the time. That would be lovely.

With best wishes from Lesley Rice"

Stephen Rice
I have been asked by his wife, Lesley, to let his 'other family' know that Stephen Rice passed away last Sunday. He had bravely struggled against cancer over the past year. He was a true gentleman and a great lover and solver of puzzles. His name is on the Solver Silver Salver and he had been a finalist in the Times Crossword Championships.

Lesley said she would inform me of the funeral arrangements, which I will pass on here when I receive them.
