So, I've been toying with this idea for a while. A TCG adaptation for DtG. I've come up with a few idea to represent the core mechanics. -- Spoiler: click to toggle That's the mechanics for the game that I planned. Suggestions are welcome. -- Now, on to the problems: 1) Artwork, this could be a pain because we can't really hire an artist to do it. I'm thinking of doing pure text, makes it feel more forum-y, but may make it hard to keep track of which card is which and probably is an eyesore. 2) Platform, I don't know of a place to make and play custom card games. I prefer browser-based, so if any of you know a place to do this, feel free to do so in this thread. -- So, hooray for first topic in ages. Edited by Tabbune, Nov 12 2015, 09:10 AM.

Actually, this is pretty cool. There are several people who can do artwork, although I'm not one of them. Anyone else interested? |

We could probably try to manipulate a Google Doc or something into working. All we really need is a space to manipulate images, so we could have one sheet for each player's hand, one for played cards, and one for the decks and image storage. Although, that might mean it's pretty easy to cheat. I can't help with drawing the art (much anyway), but if someone like Twin makes the art, I'd be able to animate them into .gif files. I started animating because I liked the Hearthstone golden cards, so this is strangely circular. Another option is to use Tabletop Simulator ( http://berserk-games.com/tabletop-simulator/ ). That would allow for a fair, 3d environment and would be really nice if you have some kind of "battlefield" positioning system. However, it costs $13.39 currently on Steam. And that's per person who would want to play. We could probably make something with just the default Tabletop Simulator parts, but a rather distant advantage of Tabletop Simulator is that it supports custom modding. And I want to upgrade from 2d After Effects animation into full blown Blender 3d modeling. Blender can export .obj files, which Tabletop Simulator uses for its modding. So maybe I'll be able to make some simple playing pieces in a few months. |

Well, art's not the main concern I have. If someone wants to volunteer, please do so. I don't mind artless. My main concern is platform, can the majority purchase Tabletop Sim? If most can, then we'll do it there. If they can't, we're gonna have to go somewhere else. I'll work on the first set of cards and the rules for now. |

I can purchase Tabletop Simulator; it could also be fairly interesting for hosting DTG: Chaos-esque games. Or the fabeled DTG&D. |

I admit it, this looks very, very interesting. Can you clarify something on the Character deck - does it have a pool of characters (how I'm interpreting it) or a pool of character-specific actions? |

@Crystalcat: My plan is for the Character deck to contain "versions" of your character. Looks like we need another platform. Folks at Salvation can't Tabletop Simulator. Can anyone here make a website that can do movable images between two people? Something like Tradecardsonline.com 's simulator? |

This sounds cool. Technically we could do something like the CYOGTCG on the MSPA forums. I might draw up some cards first. Any card ideas? |

Um... before we even start thinking about making cards, we need the mechanics down so we know what can go on the cards. What is the victory condition? How important is drawing a card? What limits players to a certain number of actions? Speaking of which, what actions can they take? What categories of cards will there be? Will we have classes like Hearthstone, where each class is based off a player? |

anotepad.com/notes/5243120 Those are the current rules. If anything needs tweaking (I know there's a lot that needs tweaking), just tell me. (If for some reason you can't open it, I'm gonna move to another online notepad service.) And to answer your questions: a) The win-con is to destroy the opposing Character b) As important as Magic: the Gathering c) Free Actions are limited to one a turn, Charged Actions are limited by costs. d) Free Actions: Free, and Charged Actions: Paid by a cost that you get a turn. Charged is split to three, Entities, Artifacts, and Actions. e) Characters, (Charged) Entities, (Charged) Artifacts, (Charge/Free) Actions f) Yes. That's the point of the whole thing imo. How will Charge work? Will it be like if you have 5 Charge at the end of a turn after spending some, will you get 7 Charge next turn? Or will it be a Hearthstone-esque system where your max charge increases every turn, and at the beginning of your turn you get it refilled to max? |

I'm not sure. The current plan is that it doesn't refill, but that's really stupid when you think about it. Maybe a Hearthstone-esque energy system is best. |

I might have found a platform that we could use to make this project a thing. I also finished the mechanics and revamped the game into a board game with card game elements. Here are the current rules (I split it into two because it was too long): Spoiler: click to toggle Spoiler: click to toggle If you have any suggestions, feel free to say it here. Edit: So, if this gets eniugh interest, I'll start working on this. Re-edit: So, the platform is in. I think we're gonna use BattleGrounds Engine/BGE. Edited by Tabbune, Feb 14 2016, 10:04 PM.

I might reload this thread, as I thought it might be interesting, without legal affairs. But after reading the whole post, what I thought was " hey, no need for any board." Recommendation for collaboration: roll20 and Google Drive. I will also join if half of you rejoin the works. |
