I played Skyrim months ago, but got bored in like the first hour or so. IDK, I feel like the only game that pulled off the gargantuan open world experience is New Vegas and maybe the GTA games, otherwise those kinds of games overwhelm me or burn me out.

I don't know if they were talking about Witcher 3 or Bloodborne, but one video game reviewer said the game was terrifying in that you're always being outgunned, you level up merely to survive and there is always a level of uncertainty to the open world. That has gotten me very interested in the game since but have never bought it.

Might be both. In the Witcher it really depends on the difficulty level you set, but it's not like it's a cakewalk even on the easiest difficulty setting. Somehow it manages to avoid that frustrating feeling of enemies only being difficult by virtue of ludicrous sums of health or insane damage output, which is a rare trick.

Morrowind is an entirely different beast to Skyrim. It's a far more...traditional RPG than Skyrim. You have actual classes and birthsigns. You have dice rolls and skill values that actually radically affect gameplay. It can be clunky and outdated at times, due to it being 14 years old, but once you get the hang of it it becomes the best Elder Scrolls game ever made. And if you use the LGNPC and Morrowind Rebirth mods you get a shitton more content, and with the Morrowind Graphics and Sound Overhaul it almost looks like a modern game. Like most TES games, you're not really playing it until you have a mod or two. It's a really good game once you understand it, and has a small but loyal following to this day for a reason. It's like 10 or 15 USD on Steam for the goty edition with the two expansion packs included. It's very, very worth it. A gem from a time when Bethesda still knew how to make a real RPG.

Not just a good RPG, a hard RPG that isn't immediately accessable to most people, and requires at least a little bit of prior knowledge to be good at.
Like, when choosing your class, don't. Either create your own class or be a spellsword because spellsword is literally the only good one if you're a breton or a dunmer. But creating your own class is ultimately better. Just choose the skills you think will help you out the most in knowing. You're actually creating a specialized character in this game, and misc skills will probably never be used until you're rich enough to just buy the expensive training for them at the end of the game. So first are your major skills, and these are the things you think are most important. Combat skills should probably go here, and maybe one other skill that you know you'll use a lot because levelling up is based on you increasing your major skills through use. So you need to get a grasp on how much you want to level up vs what skills you want to be seriously increased because making something a major skill makes you already competant at that thing. Also make sure to look at the skills' governing attributes because you get to pick three attributes that are more important to you than the others and you get a boost to them, which also increases its relevant skills. Then you have minor skills, which are skills you care about but don't care too much about. They don't help with levelling up (I don't think), but they are given a boost because you picked them as minor skills. All in all I think there's like 5 major and 7 minor skills from a list of like over 30. And make sure to create a class tailored to you character's racial abilities if you really want to ensure your character is gud enough. Oh, and remember to keep the combat skills you use high, because skill numbers determine your chance of hitting an enemy or successfully casting a spell, because in Morrowind you have a chance of missing for failing a spell, and if you're not very good at that specific skill, you have a near 100% chance of failure if it's in the single digits. Another thing that determines hit chances and a bunch of other things is stamina, or fatigue. The lower your fatigue bar the less you'll hit enemies and cast spells and the more you'll fail at persuasion. (which is broken btw so don't use it. just pickpocket someone if you want them to go aggro and then pick what you want off of their corpse. the guards will only see you as a pickpocket, not a murderer, because they attacked first. So you only have to pay a 90 gold fine.) this sucks because you'll be using up fatigue running everywhere because the walking speed is sooo slow. Just open up the console with the tilde key and type in
player->setspeed 100 and player->athletics 50. If you still think it's slow increase those numbers.
As for birthsigns, just pick the one that fits best with your character. You can revise these things later in character creation just before they let you out into the world if you have regrets. Oh, and when the guy gives you the option to answer his questions to choose a class, answer the questions if you want to figure out your character's personality, and then create your own class anyway.

It is pretty inaccessable, but my god does it get good when you figure it out. Either way, all three games are better when you mod them to hell.
