[In his command bunker, His Resplendence, the Supreme Chairman, Horatio J. Prism calls Major James Tumbledryer at the Kanghari Main Laboratories] Major! I'm greatly displeased with your report regarding Doctor Wallclock! How did you let this happen and why haven't you retrieved him yet?! He's been gone for a month according to this! Once again, my humblest apologies, Your Resplendence. We believe he boarded the merchant ship, RSS Perspiration of Toil in Bhanakha back on the 12th. And then...? The ship was attacked by pirates in the Hesslian Sea a few days ago, Your Resplendence - it appears that everyone died. Even Wallclock? We intercepted an SOS transmission that mentioned a "yellow monster" - I'd suggest that Wallclock had changed into his AltSoldier form - we sent in a recovery team, but there's been no evidence of him since. If AltSoldier is as powerful as you claimed in your earliest reports I find it doubtful that he is dead, Major. Were there any other vessels in the area? Only one, Your Resplendence - the, ah, RSS Studious Intent - it's a science vessel involved in the study of those ruins that were discovered out there a few months ago. And they haven't seen or heard anything? We visited them. The operation is headed up by a Doctor Henry Phone - a well respected archaeologist, evidently - who appears to value his work above anything else. He refused to let them answer the distress call from the Perspiration of Toil, prefering to continue with the dig! And you believed that story? Everybody on board backed it up and a search of the ship revealed no trace of Wallclock so we had to let them carry on, Your Resplendence. This reflects very poorly on you, Major - your father would never have made such a gross error. Continue the search for Doctor Wallclock and do everything you can to replicate that serum! I-I'm not relieved of duty? With this war on? I need every man and woman I can get right now - don't let me down again! |

[Aboard the RSS Studious Intent somewhere in the Hesslian Sea] You can come out now, "Mr Spanner". erm... you can call me Bruce, Doctor Phone... If that's what you want... Doctor Wallclock. You - you know! I did from the moment we picked you up. I recognised you from the news when you were given that award for your work on the poison gas. That beard doesn't disguise your appearance as much as you think! The-the others? Do they...? No. I wouldn't think so - if they're anything like my son they wouldn't be caught watching anything as mundane as the news! Heh! er... can I ask why you didn't turn me over to those people? I probably should have done - it would have ensured that they wouldn't be back disturbing my work... but... it's my business to be curious and I'm wondering why a leading government scientist is out here involved in battles with pirates and dodging military officials. ah... heh! It's a long story... |

[Constantine Malachite's command centre, Lehpuhrta] We need to find some way to give the impression that the situation here is normal, Lucy - so far only you and the medical team are aware of what has occurred. Of course *giggle* but you have to expect people will still want to talk to you. Well, naturally. Purely audio-based communications aren't a problem - we can easily make my natural voice sound like my avatar's - we proved that dealing with the Supreme Chairman the other day. He wasn't at all pleased, was he? *giggle* I'm not surprised! Lehpuhrta comes sweeping across the country and when he calls, all he gets is our answerphone! No, anyway, it's anything visual that's a problem - I mean, face-to-face meetings are going to have to stop immediately! *giggle* Definitely. But then, you've been spending most of your time in here since Lehpuhrta launched anyway - I doubt people will notice much. No, you're right. hmm... computer! +++YES, GOVERNOR MALACHITE+++ I want you to create a CGI simulacrum based on my old avatar that can be composited into any future broadcasts. I'll need you to superimpose it over me and co-ordinate all it's actions live with my own whenever I'm on screen - it should easily be within your abilities. +++AFFIRMATIVE+++ Excellent! We've gone to a lot of trouble to keep my Symyano background secret from the world. We play far too crucial a role in the war effort here to risk being undermined by such an exposure now. No indeed, Constantine *giggle* Will you please stop giggling, Lucy! But Constantine - you're just so cute now! |

[Central DPL] Lieutenant Ryturnclydd counted off the remaining troops as the two tractors rumbled along the road. "Twelve fully fit, plus four injured. That's all that's left. Out of three hundred and twenty! I don't believe it. This is a disaster." They continued slowly down the road for another hour, passing through field after field. "This really is the most primitive land I've ever seen. Nothing. Just nothing. For hours. No civilisation, no other vehicles, no aircraft. Pathetic!" Another hour passed with no sightings of civilisation, then at last Corporal Dayvejhonss spotted a town in the distance. "Finally!" sighed the Lieutenant, then stood up to address the troops. "Right lads, I want every building searched, and all the civilians rounded up. We will take the buildings to the left, Corporal Mikkidewnioo, you will lead the second vehicle and search the buildings to the right. If you encounter any resistance then open fire." The two tractors entered the small town and split up. The troops were well trained in house-to-house clearance and quickly moved through the town, one building at a time. In only twenty minutes the whole town was covered, but they had found every building empty. No humans remained, and most of the belongings had gone too. By the clean and tidy state of the buildings the troops concluded that the town must have evacuated sometime in the last three days. The only resident of the town was now a large four-legged creature, stood blocking the road. To the south-east of the town was a river, with a single stone bridge carrying the road out of the town. The creature stood on the far side, munching at the grass growing at the side of the road. "Approach with caution!" called the Lieutenant as they approached, "All the creatures on this horrible planet have been extremely hostile." They halted at the other side of the bridge. Dayvejhonss sounded the horn on his tractor. The creature continued munching the grass. Lieutenant Ryturnclydd climbed down from the tractor and strode forward to the middle of the bridge. He took out his pistol and fired over the head of the creature. The creature continued munching the grass. "Right then!" said the lieutenant, and took aim with his pistol. "If that's how you want it..." he fired into the creature's side. The creature continued munching the grass. "Sir, perhaps this vehicle could shunt the creature aside?" suggested Corporal Mikkidewnioo. "Yes, good idea. Advance and commence shunting." Mikkidewnioo gunned the engine and accelerated over the bridge. As the tractor approached, the creature raised its head then turned to face the oncoming vehicle. They hit head on, the creature's horns ripping through the front grill of the tractor. Mikkidewnioo was thrown forward over the bonnet and on to the head of the creature. It let out a low "Moooo" then shook its head, pitching the corporal over the side of the bridge and into the river. "Fish him out of the river. Quickly." shouted Lieutenant Ryturnclydd at the nearest private. They ran to the edge of the bridge and looked over. "Errr... too late sir!" replied the private. Corporal Mikkidewnioo was already twenty metres down stream and desperately struggling to stay afloat in the fast flowing water. They watched helplessly as the river carried him off into the distance. "Down to eleven", muttered the lieutenant under his breath. The creature continued munching the grass. |

In New Drakensberg Range, panic has gripped the streets, churches are full to the brim, and airports are choking with people. A government official is talking to the Prime Minister of that country. "Sir, the controller of this nation has said he is retiring from NationStates. That means that this country will cease-to-exist. The public are going wild, as a result" said the official. The Prime Minister replied "By Jove, why did I not know sooner what the controller had decided? Oh well, in any case, there's nothing New Drakensberg Range can do to save itself. We might as well take out as many countries with us as possible!! HAAAAA!!" "Sir...?" said a confused official. "LAUNCH ALL OUR NUCLEAR MISSILES!! TARGET THEM AT OTHER COUNTRIES!! LET LOOSE THE DOGS OF WAR!! I LOVE THE SMELL OF NAPLAM IN THE MORNING...and so on, and so forth" said the PM. With that, all the nuclear missiles belonging to NDR were launched. The PM observed many of them flying further up into the atmosphere. "Ah, it's good to go knowing others are going with you. I... ...er... ...why... ...why, why are they turning around?" said the PM "I told you the guidance systems needed replacing, sir! They are falling back towards NDR" said the official. "Oh damn. Well, bye world" said the PM, and he closed his eyes. ... ... ... "I knew I shouldn't have brought these WMDs from Saddam" ... When the dust settled, all that was left of NDR on the map of England, was the number 48. |

[Rhanukhani State News Network Late Evening Bulletin] Hello viewers. The time is eight thirty and I'm Trent Butterknife bringing you the news here in Rhanukhan. Due to the ongoing technical difficulties with the OrbiTech Satellite Network we continue to broadcast only on local provincial transmitters and apologize for any reduction in quality. Tonight's main headlines: Atomic Nightmare: Observations from the Rhanukhani State Space Station confirm the devastation of New Drakensberg Range. It is widely believed that the NDR's nuclear arsenal had been sabotaged by Symyano infiltrators at some point and when that nation's military finally decided to take on the invaders with their ultimate weapon they were essentially signing their own death warrants. His Resplendence, the Supreme Chairman gave a speech from the Golden Balcony at the Palace of the Dedicated Worker earlier today commending the bravery of the citizens of NDR in their courageous stand against the alien aggressors. As New Drakensberg Range is the second nation this year to have been destroyed by it's own nuclear arsenal, word has reached RSNN that all of England's nations are currently involved in detailed checks of their own weapons for evidence of Symyano tampering. Stalemate!: With both sides still evenly matched, the Symyano global land offensive has dragged into it's sixth week of ongoing slaughter. Sophie Futon brings us her regular report from the streets of Rhanukhan city and Wendy Collander joins us later with a special feature on what the ongoing struggle means for Rhanukhan's economy. And finally: A heartwarming tale of how a domestic burrowing octopus called Grafter defeated an entire mechanized unit of Symyano in the province of Ghovala today. It seems the invaders aren't nearly as invincible as their propaganda would suggest at all! Jonathon Spatula reports. All the news and tomorrow's weather coming right after this break... |

The Journal of Dr Henry Phone It's been nearly two weeks now but Junior's team have constructed the airlock in front of the secret chamber in the temple below. I'm convinced the room is still dry and that we'll be making some amazing discoveries shortly! Having translated the hidden scripts on the walls nearby I'm certain that the chamber is the tomb of the individual whom the scrolls call "The Teacher", evidently the "Golden Tribe"'s wise elder and the man responsible for teaching the ways of civilization to the early people of Ahztlarhan. I must say I envy Junior very much right now, being in the presence of such an important historical figure! Thankfully there's been no further signs of the military and Bruce has settled into his new role in the team - it's good to have another dedicated scientist along and his knowledge of biology has been most useful when dealing with some of the finds. |

[The Highmaster's Palace, Teeh'Pahrteeh on Symyan'zu] Jaimsteeckerkk... speak! Your Magnificence, the latest reports from England are not good. Coohudalss' forces have clearly been fought to a standstill. The timelapse means these reports are already a tenturn out of date! Indeed, magnificent one. Who knows how much worse the situation has gotten since they were sent? Jaimsteeckerkk! Prepare the royal warvessel - I shall personally oversee the destruction of that world - it is clearly a greater threat to the peace of the Hegemony than we first believed! It shall be as you say, Magnificent Highmaster. I shall send word to Coohudalss to withdraw his troops in anticipation of your arrival. No! He and his fleet have failed me - they shall share the fate of England! That world will have no warning of its doom - it will amuse me greatly to see it tremble with fear when Highmaster Thebigboss of the Symyano arrives in its skies!!! |

Glerican Splort Command "I say it's high time these ray-gun wielding space monkeys got a taste of their own medicine!" shouted General Jerry Terrance, a newly promoted captain with an inferiority complex. His outburst had gained him a murmur of approval from the rest of the command table. Doctor Rogers was tired of all this gun toting nonsense that she's been subjected to for 5 days now. She much preferred when people talked to each other instead of shouting and didn't say "Y'all". "We are the only nation on this region that hasn't been invaded by these pigdogs because they#re obviously too scared. What other reason could there possibly be?!" "Maybe they don't see us as a threat since we were incapacitated by a computer who thought it was Napoleon" "Doctor, you speak fancy words for someone who ain't got no gun to back them up" Jane cringed at the sheer brutality the general had spat out his words. I mean come on, ain't isn't even a word for crying out loud; and the double negative is highly inappropriate. "General" she started "I may not have a gun but I have been effectively running this country while the gateway was around. Besides, attacking the Symyans directly would be suicide" "Not if you've got the smarts of a DPL Fiend and a City-slicking fox like me ol' my!" Entrusting the fate of the country to a person who can't pronounce sentences without adding "tarnation!" onto the end of them. Fantastic. |

Professor Sideboard will be joining us in a moment - have lunch sent in for us both. +++COMPLYING+++ Constantine! Lucy! Come in! The war is still at a stalemate, Constantine. They can't hope to keep this up, Lucy - they're on an alien world, lightyears from Symyan'zu - their supplies must be nearly exhausted by now! What if they call in reinforcements? It won't happen. The fleet dispatched was considered by the Highmaster to be adequate for the task of subjugating this world. Coohudalss would essentially be telling the Highmaster that his judgment was wrong - no Symyano has the courage to try that one! +++LUNCH IS SERVED+++ You have made this Highmaster sound quite um... sound... erm... *giggle* Lucy? This nation, Glerica - the one that has managed to avoid our efforts to invade it so far... it occurs to me that since we currently hold its neighbour, Southern Irish, we could finally commence a land assault against them. Indeed, your exaltedness, their defence network has been severely weakened by the destruction of that infernal computer. Make it so! I want half the forces in Southern Irish marching across the border within the next turn of this world! Er... Exalted Fleetmaster... The Journal of Dr Henry Phone The box Junior retrieved from the temple presents an impossible paradox. Due to the ongoing technical difficulties with the OrbiTech Satellite Network we continue to broadcast only on local provincial transmitters and apologize for any reduction in quality. Tonight's main headline: Terror in the Dark?: Astronomers at the Kanghari Main Observatory are warning of a possible new Symyano fleet approaching. Speculation arose when the Symyano home star vanished recently in a similar fashion to the events surrounding the arrival of the first fleet suggesting that, once again, an object or objects have moved between here and there. Authorities are naturally concerned about the possibility of a second Symyano fleet and are making preparations but have asked citizens to remain calm until confirmation is forthcoming. RSNN will be keeping you up-to-date on this breaking story as it happens... |

[Headquarters of the Rhanukhan National Security Agency] Well, the word is out. We're co-ordinating with the law enforcers and local military in order to quell the anticipated panic. I'm putting you in charge of the GBI-1 units we've been allocated. You know I don't trust those things, Sir! Malachite probably has them secretly working in aid of his Symyano masters! Will you please let that theory go, Agent Spicerack - in spite of everything else he is, it's become pretty clear that Governor Malachite isn't an alien invader! He's in regular video contact with His Resplendence at a time when you tell me he should be a hairy monkey! But... the news footage from the ArmaTech Tower! That must have been connected with us using the jammer on the infiltrators! Just leave it - we have bigger concerns right now. [Kanghari Main Observatory] Professor Winerack! Sir! The object has changed course and fallen into orbit! Orbit? How did it change course? It couldn't possibly be a Symyano vessel - it's enormous! Well, I'm afraid it did sir - look! Incredible! I have to call His Resplendence! |

[Rhanukhani State News Network News Flash!] Good evening viewers. We apologise for interrupting your program with this breaking news! I'm Trent Butterknife. Tonight there is a new sight in the sky. Not the second Symyano fleet as expected but a single vast globe, the size of a small moon! Astronomers at the Kanghari Main Observatory tracked the object into the solar system throughout the day until it pulled into orbit just minutes ago. Speculation on the nature of the object has bee- *static* |

[Simultaneous broadcast on all of England's television and radio channels] *static clears, revealing the wrinkled, pinkish features of a gangly humanoid figure almost lost within the most elaborate and flamboyant example of Symyano battle armour ever seen. The creature begins to speak and, for the first time, England hears the voice which commands total loyalty in the Symyano and fear in the Hegemony's neighbours - a voice which sounds curiously like that of a small child who's recently sucked out the contents of a helium balloon* I AM HIGHMASTER THEBIGBOSS - RULER OF THE SYMYANO HEGEMONY! INFERIOR CREATURES, YOU HAVE PROVEN A MOST RESOURCEFUL FOE. GIVEN TIME YOU MIGHT POSSIBLY BECOME A THREAT TO THE PEACE OF THE HEGEMONY. I WILL NOT PERMIT SUCH A THING TO PASS - YOU WILL BE COMPLETELY ERADICATED! COOHUDALSS, YOU AND YOUR TROOPS HAVE FAILED ME - YOUR FATE SHALL BE THE SAME AS THE WORLD YOU WERE SENT TO CONQUER!!! *static, followed by the return of scheduled programming* |

I do, Coohudalss! This is clearly the time - my family's mission takes precedence! Time? Your family? What are y- BLAFZZZ!!! OOOK! *thud!* I am Fleetmaster now! You! Inform the other Shipmasters of the change in command! You! Open communion with Chonmiklatt - quickly before it is too late! |
