General Foolery Address United Idiocracy on UITV1: My fellow Idiots. I address you this evening concerning a matter of grave importance. Many of you will be aware of the recent banana incident that resulted in the formation of the Sea of Regret. Some of you may even be aware of some strange occurances in the area recently. It has become apparant that a serious virus has broken out in the area, and several nations which colonised the area, are now afflicted. We do not know how far the infection has spread, or if the mainlands of the colonising nations are affected. What we do know, however, that swift action by your government and our armed forces has prevented any chance of the infection spreading into United Idiocracy. Yesterday a New Drakensberg Range aircraft, carrying infected personnel to NDR, attempted to fly over our nation. Despite several warnings to divert, the aircraft maintained its heading, and was consequently destroyed. Our armed forces are stationed at our borders, and our Navy is patrolling to prevent any chance of infection reaching our great nation. Reports that NDR is planning to attack us are without basis. I can confirm that they have requested an apology and £5 million in reparations, but I tell you tonight that neither will be forthcoming from us! We will not apologise for protecting our borders, neither will we pay reparations. We hope that this situation can be resolved peacefully, but if it cannot, then we are prepared for the alternative. Goodnight, my fellow idiots. |

Announcement from Glerican B-Base 4 - Research Department To all nations, Disregarding the current political climate surrounding the FBE we have some very grave news to report. Yesterday we recieved samples from one of our science ships, the GMS Liberation, stationed near the mainland. We have preformed preliminary tests and some extensive research and we have found something... well, something really, really bad. We've found a virus. Chemical Name Virus 672A or Banalite. The Banalite virus is extremely contagious disease that changes some "hardwired" nerve relays in the brain, effectively changing it into something we've never seen before. This new organ causes the subject to because unpredictably violent, sneaky, and disturbing almost to a "brainwashed" level. Subjects infected with Banalite suffer severe headaches, then internal hemoraging and then a sence of utopia and an unrelenting desire to infect others with Banalite. It is transfered in several ways, one of them being the firect infection, which is when one person infected with Banalite will attack and try to bite another person. If they succeed, then the person bitten (if not killed by the attacker) will become infected. Another way we've seen is that the virus can take on an airbourne shape, in the form of a thick yellow fog. Luckily, this fog is subject to wind currents, and due to its colour its easily spotted and avoided. This way of infection also takes much longer than the direct route, and a person must be surrounded in the fog for several days before it begins to infect the body. Those infected with Banalite also seen to have slightly reduced intelegence, but will try and "trick" any person not infected to become so. Its obvious to say that if anyone is suspected with being infected they must be quarentined immediatley and avoided. There is currently no cure or vaccine, as the virus mutates far too quickly for anyone to get a straight structure, but the research is ongoing. Accourding to our research, the virus is limited to the mainland of FBE, and not the islands, although the yellow fog is heading outwards. Thankyou. Dr. H. Monkeyman Head Researcher at B-Base 4 |

MESSAGE TO ALL NATIONS OF ENGLAND The government of UI thanks Glerica for its swift analysis of the problem. It is clear that there is only one course of action to contain this plague. The complete destruction of all installations and inhabitants of the FBE mainland. We have a squadron of MORON III class long range, high altitude bombers, being equipped with CRETIN high explosive/incendiary bombs. These will be ready for action very shortly. As soon as the aircraft are ready, they will be dispatched in order to permanently deal with this threat to England. All nations with interests in the Sea of Regret area should leave immediately, We will not be held responsible for any collateral damage Gen T Foolery President, United Idiocracy |

----------Diplomatic communique from People's Republic of Nivogal------------ To the people of United Idiocracy, We have two territories in the Former Britain's Empire region of England and have a task force currently underway to deal with the infestation. Your use of weapons of mass destruction is not recommended and you are urged to cease and desist immediately. We currently have a 4 squadrons of heavy long-range bombers and two squadrons of nuclear bombers headed towards the area to cleanse the region of the filthy infected and purify it so civilised nations can once again explore and settle in that land. Please let the Nivogalese People's Navy and the Nivogalese People's Air Force complete their task. Sincerely, /s/ Gerhard Fischer Chancellor, People's Republic of Nivogal :ph43r: |

[Special Live Broadcast from Rhanukhani State News Network] (sound only - with a stock image of Governor-General Reese Tumbledryer) Hello to you, citizens and workers of Rhanukhan, this is Sophie Futon in Lazarastra... today has been a dark day in the history of our new colony. It is with great sadness I have to report the tragic death of Governor-General Reese Tumbledryer. The great man who led us through our founding days was discovered dead in his bed by his wife this morning. The cause is currently unknown but authorities state they have no reason to suspect foul play. General Tumbledryer's widow, Professor Lucy Sideboard-Tumbledryer, has assumed all the responsibilities of running the colony and will be making her inaugral speech later today. Stay tuned people - as long as it doesn't interfere with your productivity. This is Sophie Futon, signing off. Sophie Futon, Rhanukhani State News Network (Lazarastra - 13:45, 23/01/08) |

[Statement from the government of Disposablepuppetland] Scientists on-board the Ebon Sunday have been working in conjunction with West-Side scientists at the Civil HQ to study the effects of the banana contamination. They have not detected any pathogen within the banana fog. Their conclusion is that the effects of the fog are: intoxication, euphoria, and later headaches, but no haemorrhaging or long lasting infection. This conclusion is confirmed by the fact that no personnel on-board the Ebon Sunday have contracted the virus, despite being enveloped by the fog for several days. However, the rescue team sent from the Civil HQ on the first day after the impact have shown some of the symptoms of infection. They have been quarantined on-board the Profound Mauve while further study continues. The scientists present two possible explanations for the events in the FBE: 1. The infection was spread purely by human-human or human-mutant infection. 2. The land of the FBE itself is a vector for infection, but the virus is not able to spread over the sea. |

[Special Live Broadcast from Rhanukhani State News Network] Mysterious Crashes Two aircraft were lost - presumed crashed - in mysterious circumstances in our new colony of Lazarastra yesterday. The first, a chartered flight ferrying a team of scientists from the government laboratory in Kanghari disappeared from radar shortly after crossing the border. A military RF27 reconaissance fighter of the Khunate Air Fleet was despatched from Golden Fields AFB in Khun within minutes but also vanished, shortly after reporting encountering the unusual yellow fog which is becoming commonplace in the Sea of Regret. The military are sending a mechanised unit overland from Hargattoria to make an investigation. We'll bring you updates on this story as we recieve them. In other news, shares in Rhanukhan ArmaTech rose markedly in value today following the company's announcement that it's biological weapons division had secured the government contract to clean up and dispose of the "Banana"-based yellow foam that is still washing up on our northern shores. Bridge, SLN Haken, 2nd Fleet, Nivogalese People's Navy (MLN - Marine Der Leute Nivogalisch), 30 miles off the coast of Civil HQ OOC: SLN = Schiff Der Leute Nivogalisch - Nivogalese People's Ship/OOC Vice Admiral Odell Leo, of the SLN Haken, received the report from an officer who gave him the communique, and looked up at the radar panel. Several long range aircraft were coming, and the Air Force bomber squadrons were not going to show up for another 30 minutes Odell stiffened his lip, and told the communications officer: "Erhalten Sie mir den Direktor des BND, jetzt." Get me the Director of the BND, now. He would need to sort this out with the Chancellor and the BND on how to proceed. He gave the signal to launch the aircraft currently on alert on the deck: 4 Rafale-M fighters. 5 minutes later, the flight of Rafale-M fighters were in the air and headed towards Jilted Atoll, ready to intercept any incoming target and defend their territory :ph43r: |

The Glerican Science Office Tests preformed by our scientists in B-Base 4 where then preformed by government official scientists in a undisclosed place. The results where similar, if not more alarming. Its worrying that the nation of DPL can feel safe in the hands of commercial scientists, whose main ideal is to make a profit. The pathogen, Banalite, can be transfered by direct infection (such as contracting it from a bite from an infected person), as well as in its "fog" form, allowing it to become airbourne and survive outside the body for long periods of time. It has also been found that the pathogen is present in the core substance found all around the FBE area, as well as the ajoining islands. However, the process of turning this crude nana into Bananium renders the substance unedible and unsuitable for direct human contact but keeps its energy giving properties. We repeat that the Banalite virus can be transfered through its fog form and is airbourne. The Glerican Government has already imposed a ban on all products (including merchandise, food products, appliances, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products) derived from the crude 'Nana, and urge other nations to do the same, otherwise they may suffer adverse effects. |

... ... Ho...on. This is Lt. General...talking to anyone who can hear... Damn. Is the antenna receiving the elec... Ok. Is it alligned properly... Keep it go... [static reduces] I think a clear signal is going through. This is Lt. General Alan Dontrustem. We have secured the Outpost, for now, but heavy losses have been sustained. Every monster that attacked us was killed, thanks to the steadiness of the soldiers, and the amount of firepower that was used against our enemy. We are not certain what our enemy was. I do not know of any developments which have occured in the world regarding the study of what our enemy is, because our antenna was out of action for most of the battle, and so was our electricity generator. The best conclusion the scientific community at the Outpost has made, is that our enemy are zombified people. They appear to be passing on some sort of disease by biting normal humans. After the enemy was held against our inner wall, the enemy restorted to firing unknown weapons at the soldiers instead of physically attacking them unarmed. Our soldiers were knocked out, but remained alive. The scientists at the Outpost believe that this allowed the soldiers to be no longer a threat, and could be kept alive for later infection. Not long after the enemy was defeated, the yellow fog that we had been tracking engulfed the base. It still remains here. It has been here for 4 days. I do not know if the onset of acute headaches in some of the soldiers, and myself, are connected with this phenomenon. Gabriel Matthews, the reporter I talked about earlier, was sent on a ship shortly after the battle began. He has information regarding the origin of the disease, and he also has information regarding how the disease can be eradicated. He believes that only his information will prevent the disease was spreading from the FBE. His information was gained through his friendship with Sophie Futon, a reporter in Lazarastra, before the disease was released. His data could not be deciphered without the use of a super-computer, which the Outpost does not posess and therefore I am unable to tell you what information he has. Therefore, it is essential that he is retreived. I sent him towards the Jilted Atoll. And, General Longwater must be quarantined. I can state with absolute certainty that he has been infected. If necessary, I recommend that he been killed if he tries to resist incarceration. I presume that is on release in NDR after he landed his plane from the Outpost. I request reinforcements to prop up the defences at the Outpost. There could be more enemies on the way and...and we need to...defend... Damn headache! As I was saying, please send... I need to sign off. I will...send a message...later. |

Captain's Log Transmitted 23/01/08 21:00 Captain Kelli Irving - GMS Liberation We're out of that damn fog thank god! We were only in it a few hours and I think the worst hit were a few of the younger recruits... headaches, vomiting that sort of thing. Apart from that it seems ok. If anyone gets this we're still heading toward Alpha Outpost, we'll be there within two hours. God knows what has happened there but we'll see if there are any survivors or if we can help. I hope this reaches home... in the fog we couldn't get a signal so if this reaches base, we have lost 6 pilots and 3 of our F-bombers. We have little fuel for the helicopters but we're fine supply wise, plenty of food, water and ammo to last a long while just yet, our original mission was to last a year and half anyway. Anyway, Alpha Outpost... we're nearly there. If anyone gets this, stay clear of the infected people. I've looked at the population ranks and we have just enough room to evacuate all of you even though I doubt the entire population is alive... Good Luck. [Transmission Ends] |

Frankly, the government of NDR believes that the government of Nivogal will learn its lesson once it lands on the two islands it has claimed. Gabriel Matthews tried to warn the government about the disease a couple of weeks before the events in the FBE started occuring. We did not believe him then, but we have reviewed his statements that were made by him. His belief that the disease is contained within core substances located everywhere on the FBE is substantiated by Glerica's findings. Matthews was accurate about many other things that have occured, so we are inclined to believe that he has accurate information, and we also have faith in the Glerican scientific community. Therefore, we believe that Nivogalise troops will become infected if they land on the two islands. NDR will not waste resources on fighting Nivogal, when the disease can do the job for us. Land if you dare. The government of NDR also stated, in no uncertain terms, to the UI government that nuclear weapons should not be used. Lt. General Dontrustem implied that the only way to defeat the virus is to be found in studying its origin. If nuclear weapons are launched against the origin, Lazarastra, then we may lose our only chance to stop the disease, and the virus will spread around England. Also, a nuclear attack could result in the spread of radiation outside of the mainland of the FBE, and possibly outside of the FBE entirely, to territories which are not infected and who may well suffer casualties as a result of the nuclear attack. The message was also conveyed to Nivogal. The government also stated that, in the interests of fighting the disease, the NDR government will pause its ongoing dispute with UI over the shooting down of our plane. We hope UI will agree. The discussion will continue after the virus has been eradicated. |

The NDR government strongly advises Glerica to send aircraft to destroy Liberation. NDR hopes that the Glerican government will understand the need to destroy Liberation, since their last transmission stated that some of the sailors had developed symptons, which are indentical to the symptons of Banalite infection. NDR also hopes that Glerica will not interprete NDR action against the ship, should Glerica not take action, as a sign of aggressiveness. We are merely trying to prevent the movement of infected people, a goal which both Glerica and NDR should share. Within 5 hours, 35 NDR Tupolev Tu-160 bombers, will be dropping high-explosive coventional bombs, as well as naplam bombs, on the Alpha Outpost. 15 ships of the 1st NDR Navy Fleet will begin bombarding the Outpost at the same time as the bombs are dropped. The quarantine is still in effect, so no additional NDR troops will be landing on the FBE. The neutralisation of the Outpost is a necessary act. 30 NDR cruisers, and other smaller ships, are searching for Gabriel Matthews in the sea near the Jilted Atoll. 90% of the rest of the fleet is holding position near the Civil HQ. |

[Special Live Broadcast from Royal Lazarastran News Network] (Video for the first time in several weeks reveals reporter Sophie Futon... who's skin appears curiously yellow and toughened. In the background we can see Lazarastra's provincial capital being restored as though there had been major civil disturbance recently... the sky is filled with a thick yellow cloud from horizon to horizon) Wooohhooooh! We finally have video folks!!! But that's not the biggest news - not by a long shot! As you'll have noticed from the programme's opening credits, you're now watching the Royal Lazarastran News Network! That's right - Her Beloved Majesty, Queen Lucy of Lazarastra has appointed herself our new ruler and declared independence from Rhanukhan! (Images switches to first official portrait of Queen Lucy, sat on her new throne, smiling beneficently - the image of regal splendor in a figure hugging floor length yellow dress. Like Sophie, she also appears to have toughened yellow skin) Isn't she divine? All hail the Queen!!! Along with her Majesty's declaration of independence was a request to our allies in the fruitbowl alliance and also other nations to officially recognise Lazarastra as a new sovereign nation and to welcome our ambassadors into their countries. (Image of Queen Lucy appointing several Lazarastran citizens, all notable for their toughened yellow skin, as her new ambassadors) Along with her request was a warning both to Rhanukhan and also the other nations which have threatened Lazarastra recently - I'm looking at you, United Idiocracy! - that any further evidence of hostile intentions would be met with appropriate force. (Montage of images of yellow skinned Lazarastran soldiers, sailors and airmen in their fine, new, yellow uniforms proudly displaying their hardware) All hail her Beloved Majesty! Stay tuned people - this is Sophie Futon, signing off! Sophie Futon, Royal Lazarastran News Network (Lazarastra - 22:23, 23/01/08) |

[Special Live Broadcast from Rhanukhani State News Network] (image of Jonathan Spatula, holding a microphone, being jostled from all sides by a throng of Rhanukhani citizens) You join me here, live outside the Palace of the Dedicated Worker in Rhanukhan City where His Resplendence, the Supreme Chairman has just made his official response to this evening's surprise announcement from Lazarastra. As you all know, from bulletins throughout the evening and also broadcasts from Lazarastra itself before our military started blocking them in the interests of national security - the head scientist of our colony, Professor Lucy Sideboard, has maneuvered herself into a position of power amongst the colonists and, in a move that goes against everything Rhanukhani society stands for, established a monarchy with herself as queen. Speculation is rife that her apparent Marriage to appointed Colonial Governor, General Reese Tumbledryer was actually just a clever fiction to reinforce her claim to leadership. General Tumbledryer's current whereabouts are unknown, however, recent rumours of his death are now being taken far more seriously. Citizens across Rhanukhan have been expressing their disgust all evening even to the extent that an enormous mob has formed here, below the Golden Balcony, to hear His Resplendence, the Supreme Chairman's words in person. And what words they were! His Resplendence has naturally refused to recognise Lazarastra as a sovereign nation and demanded that the leaders of the insurrection immediately surrender themselves and permit a newly appointed representative of the Rhanukhani government to retake control of the colony. An armed expeditionary force is already being assembled to put down expected trouble in the region. Join me for more devlopments on this day of shocking events thoughout the night. [Special Live Broadcast from Rhanukhani State News Network] Silence in Space Becomes Cause for Concern Scientists involved in the Rhanukhani Space program here in Astahni admitted today that they are gravely concerned by the ongoing silence from the Rhanukhani State Space Station. There has been no communication for well over a month now and fears are rising that the timing of the cutoff - just days after the two intrepid "Bananauts", Charles "Buzz" Mantlepiece and Malcolm "Buzz" Soupspoon, proudly became the first ever Rhanukhani workers to set foot on the "Banana" whilst it was still in orbit - could be more than a mere coincidence. A shuttle launch has been arranged to attempt to dock with the Space Station and ascertain the situation on board. We'll bring you more on this story as it develops. [Transmission received from Captain Gerald Breadbin - Rhanukhani Workers Army 4th Light Mechanised Division] We reached the border of Lazarastra two hours ago and immediately began our search for the downed aircraft. The curious lighting caused by the ever-present yellow cloud in the area is making things difficult at present but the terrain is fairly open so we expect results shortly. One promising event was just reported in, however. Our advance scouting parties have encountered a group of our Lazarastran colonists and are returning them to our camp - hopefully they'll be able to answer a few questions about recent events out here. NDR will begin parachuting supplies onto Area 17 from the air. However, the government of NDR feels that it needs to remind the nations of England that a guarantine is in effect around the FBE. No ships may dock at the coastline of the FBE, nor will any personnel be allowed to be landed on Area 17. If the quarantine is opposed, NDR will use force to prevent anyone from creating a scenario which would allow the virus to spread. |

Major-General Eric Winobago, a spokesman for the NDR Armed Forces, said the following during a press conference held in Englesburgh, the capital of New Drakensberg Range. I can report that the bomber fleet has completed its mission. The Outpost, and all the personnel, most of whom would likely have been infected by the time the first bombs dropped, have been eradicated. The number of casualties sustained by the NDR Armed Forces since the first fight with the mutants at the Lazarastran-NDR border are being calculated. Even though the captain of the GMS Liberation implied that most of his troops were unaffected, the NDR military made the decision to remove the source of the risk presented by a ship carrying infected personnel. As a result of Glerica's lack of action to solve the problem, the NDR Armed Forces was forced to order the sinking of the GMS Liberation. 17 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets laucned from the 1st NDR Naval Fleet sunk GMS Liberation shortly after the order was issued. There are no known survivors. The decision to sink the ship was one that was not taken lightly, for we do not wish to take the lives of our friends. However, we do not regret the action because we knew that force was needed to be used to prevent the spreading of the virus. We hope that Glerica will understand our actions. We also hope P-17 will understand our bombing of the Outpost. Lt. General Ben Browling, stationed in the Outpost, reported that P-17 forces fought bravely against the mutants, and that they stood shoulder to shoulder with their NDR brothers, and never flinched in the face of danger. Their sacrifice was necessary, and their sacrifice will forever be remembered. Thank you P-17 for your assistance. |

NDR will not recognise the breakaway state. Our decision is based on the fact that the state presents a clear and present danger to the region of England. The government of NDR urges Rhanukhan not to take military action against the breakaway state. The NDR Armed Forces are organising a plan which, if successful, will result in the destruction of the virus. A conventional military attack may lose England's chance to prevent the disease from engulfing England. |

Extract from Glerican Foreign Affairs Officer's Speech "We have reports that shortly after the GMS Liberation was stationed in the port of Alpha Outpost, it was attacked by the NDR government, sinking the vessel while it was delivering aid to the survivors. This unprovoked attack is surely a sign of the times and the political tensions present in the FBE area, and coensides with the explosion on P-17 earlier today. The Glerican B-Base 4 has had no communication between the Liberation and itself (as well the NDR government knew), as due to the fog phenomenon messages where hard to transmit, so no order to retreat or report back to B-Base 4 could have possibly gotten through. No warning shots were given and no messages were recieved by the Liberation telling it to leave the port. It is a sad day that we must now come to realise the danger. It is even sadder that we now must call a previous friend a new and apparant threat. The masacre that had taken place claimed the lives of 650 men and women of the Glerican Navy. The captain and all of the crew served well, and it is a grave shame that the crew that originally discovered the virus and shared it to the world have been cruely and unjustly taken away." |

The government of NDR wants to point out the following: *The GMS Liberation violated the quarantine by docking at the coastline. We had warned England that any breach in the quarantine would be met with force. *Glerica did not respond to our request for them to destroy their own ship. We forewarned that Glerica that a lack of action on their part would result in the ship being attacked by NDR forces. Therefore, advance warning was given. Plus, when presented with no Glerican response to our message, NDR believes that it was justified to take matters into its own hands. An infected ship needed to be destroyed. *The virus needs to be destroyed. Lives must be lost to attain that goal, if a cure to the virus remains undiscovered. *Where would Liberation have gone if we had asked it to leave port? No country would have accepted them into their port, and I am certain Glerica is one such country that would have refused entry. I understand why Liberation did not know that the developments that had occured in NDR policy. However, considering all the advance warnings, the Glerican government should not be surprised that NDR did what it did. We are unhappy that lives have been lost, but the attack was necessary. Remember, NDR has suffered casualties. We had over 100,000 NDR men stationed in the Alpha Outpost, and many of them died because of the bombs we dropped on them. NDR has had to suffer too. NDR hopes that no country will force NDR to take the same action it did against the Glerican ship. Destroy your infected ships, or we will destroy them. Dock at the coastline of the FBE (we accept that Liberation did not know about the quarantine, but I have stated the reasons why the ship was destroyed nonetheless), and the docked ship will be destroyed. Land personnel on the FBE, and the personnel will be killed. Supplies may be dropped from the air onto the FBE. NDR will maintain the quarantine, because we are trying to save England. |

Transmission from UI Ministry of Defence
In view of this information, UIAF 15th bomber squadron has been stood down, however, we are continuing to monitor the situation closely. The government of UI is still concerned about the persistance of the virus in Lazarastra, particularly noting its proximity to the ASXTC border. Unless we receive information that the virus is being successfully fought, we shall destroy all remaining installations and inhabitants in FBE. We would also like to remind NDR of that UI airspace and waters remain closed to their craft, until we can be certain the infection has not spread to their mainland. We would regret any further "misunderstandings". Gen Ron Bacardi Defense Minister, UI |

Announcement from the Glerican Foreign Affairs Office *How did the Liberation even know it was violating quarantine? It received no direct warning from the NDR government, nor any other warnings or alerts from the outside world. *You gave us less than a day to respond to your demands, not even pausing before you brutaly wiped out these people's lives. You may think it is wise to wipe out your own men, but do not do it to ours. *You knew fine well that even if we did respond in time we couldn't get a message to the captain of the Liberation due to the fog. *The virus needs to be destroyed, we agree. But do the lives of healthy men and women? You had intelligence that the virus was not on board the Liberation except from secured samples, but you went ahead and destroyed the ship. *If the Liberation were to leave port and return to B-Base 4, the crew would be in quarentine until it was clear that they were not infected. *We did not force you to destroy this ship, it was under its orders to provide aid to the survivors and help stave off the attack, and possibly rescue some of the men. Were it sucessful, perhaps some of this uneeded bloodshed could have been avoided. |
