The Thing I Don't Want to Say

Hey guys,

A rather sheepish and grim faced mollusk types before you.

A while back on the Apotheosis forums some of the members were talking about how the game over there had been silent for a while, and were curious when they could expect the next update. Some of the following discourse took place:
"... does anyone know when the update will be. It's been like 2 months now."
"Never. It was like this towards the end of the first Apotheosis. And instead of Dial saying 'I can't run the game because I am so busy that I can't even drop a message on SE every once in a while.', he just went silent for a year and a ha
Not trying to shame Dial, but a little honesty with himself and the players would be nice. 'I don't have the time to run a forum game.'"

And the fact of the matter is the same thing could be said about myself and Deus Plani. I had been working on a video, because I wanted to talk to you guys about this 'in person,' so to speak, but frankly it was overly long and a bit too rambly. For that reason I feel text may be more adequate, but if you guys want I can upload said vlog in a private video on youtube. But the point remains that I need to be honest with myself, and I need to be honest with you guys.

Anyhow, to be completely forward, I don't really have time for Deus Plani right now. When I do have time for it I lack motivation. Currently my focus has divided between a few different things, work and school being a big one, but also trying to focus on reading and writing more -and maybe do something with my creative writing degree, haha-, and spending time with my friends and family that I can physically interact with. And, unfortunately, that doesn't really give me a lot of time left over.

I want to be very clear, I have very much enjoyed the opportunity to play Apotheosis, and Deus, and even hang out on Skype with you guys. You are all really great people, and I'm honored to call you my friends, and at least on that more final end I probably won't be completely disappearing. But as it stands, running a game like Deus Plani is very time consuming, especially at its current scale. While sometimes it can be very rewarding to set aside other things and power through it, it comes at a price. The first semester I started running Deus, my grades really fell. Even without school, several days of work can go into writing a single round. While I very much enjoy seeing what you guys do in Deus, and I relish the opportunities to play it with you guys, it is ultimately a labor of love, and one that I cannot currently maintain.

And so, with that said, and though it is something I do not want to say, I am forced to announce that Deus Plani will be entering an indefinite hiatus.

Though I do want to say that this is not without hope, and I am a notoriously indecisive character. It could very well be that now that I've made this announcement I will not be able to stop thinking about Deus, and Round 9 will suddenly appear in a month or so; but at the same time the above still holds true. Fortunately I feel as though Deus stopped off at a good point. The world was being re-worked for the gods to return after a long slumber after the world froze into silence. Perhaps this pause is representative of what the gods themselves are doing, and sometime within a year the game will come stirring back to life.

And as I said, I'll try not to completely fall off the face of the earth. The forums will remain open, and I can still be reached here, or on Apotheosis forums, and on skype, and sometimes of the spec-evo forums. I'm even friends on Facebook with some of you cool cats.
And so, in echoing the wise words of a wise youtuber, "this is no goodbye, oh-no, only

'see-you-later!'"
