Hey guys, I thought this sub forum needed some love, and figured having a topic dedicated to round progression would be something you guys would like. Sooo, to start things off, I will begin writing Blue Jay and Space Gorilla's responses this week for Round 3, and after that I will begin writing everyone's for Round 4. I'm terrible at dead lines, and like last time expect it to be pushed back as needed, but I'm projecting a very tentative date of March 4th for Round 4. That will be a month and one day from last update. Sorry about it taking so long, but I've got some big homework assignments due this week that need a fair amount of my attention, and life has a funny way of getting in the way of things. Also, and I say this as a joke but if it offends anyone I will rename it, I have started something that will henceforth be known as the "Archie/Adman Clause". It simply means that if an Apotheosis update has been long overdue, and you have not yet posted in that game, I will not write your update in Deus Plani until you do. Once you have written you Apotheosis update, I will add your response to the appropriate round so that you are not hindered, and you should be good to go from there. There are of course exceptions, such as if you are waiting on critical information from an Apotheosis GM to update. I don't wish to sound like a jerk in doing this, but its me trying to use what little incentive I can to push that game along. ![]() Though as with most things, if you guys don't like this idea and want me to change it, I will happily do so. And finally I have a bit of a request, though I totally understand if nobody wants to take it up. One of my big study plans, so to speak, is how humans came about learning to smelt metal, as well as general developments into civilization. I'm looking at early civilizations, such as Egypt, Mesopotamia, and along the Yellow River. This has been an ongoing endeavor since the beginning of the game, and will likely continue to be one for a while, but any help in locating and consolidating relevant information is extremely helpful, and it allows me to dedicate more time to actually writing responses. And to end, I leave you with these numbers. They are relevant to Round 4, but their meaning is left to you to decipher: 52 8 2 55 70 2 47 2 3 5 17 38 3 24 12 2 88 1 1 Ì §lêêþ. £ð Edited by Oyster Man, May 30 2015, 09:50 PM.

Okay, to solve these numbers, we have to figure out if there's any particular pattern with them or if they're some sort of cipher. I'll throw some random letters at them to see if I can make a sentence. EDIT: Okay, each number does not refer to a single letter or a single word, and there are not three words. Here is some general stuff I pulled off of the glorious Wikipedia about smelting: The first smelting occurred with the Metals of Antiquity; all but gold had to be taken from minerals and other such things before they could be used properly. Tin and lead could've been melted over wooden fires, then shaped with either clay or stone used to help form the shapes. These metals could've been used at first to make things such as structural shapes or projectiles; things that lack elegance but make up for it in strength. These metals could also be used as mortar for stone buildings. Copper would require hotter flames than bonfires, so some form of oven would be required. From copper one could quite easily discover bronze, as arsenic is often found alongside it. It is kind of unknown how these metals were discovered, because they were discovered at a time when written records were around. Generally speaking, you mine until you find a metal, hope that you can melt it, and see the results. Iron wasn't used until the ovens and heat we could produce were great enough to melt the metals. I know this isn't much, but I hope it helps a bit. Edit: iron probably wouldn't be used much until steel is discovered if bronze is discovered beforehand. Edited by Teuthis, Feb 15 2015, 04:49 PM.

My 2 cents about smelting from general knowledge, so take it with a pinch of salt: Copper was probably the first metal smelted due to the minerals abundance. The fire needed can be created with a simple earth furnace (basically a miniature u-shaped tunnel is the dirt). With the smelting of copper, eventually alloys will come around with major breakthroughs being brass, arsenic bronze and eventually bronze proper. The smelting of bronze will naturally lead the the development of advanced furnaces which in turn will lead to ceramics and brickworks (technology works like that, one thing opens up a whole tree of other things). Bronze is more expensive than iron but it does not rust, is not as brittle and is generally better. The iron age came about due to (in my opinion) the trade routes that connected the centres of production to the tin sources collapsed or the tin sources where exhausted. Iron: cheap, abundant and could be re-smelted if the tool broke, unlike bronze, made the perfect alternative for a more violent world after the collapse of the bronze age economy. After the development of more advanced furnaces though, carbon could be added thus creating steel, which is better than bronze but something that wasn't discovered until later. Several cultures in Africa have shown that with sufficient time, ovens advance regardless to the point where they can reach the iron age without having to go into the bronze age. |

And after only having to have promised it would be "this night" about six times, I finally have the round 2ers caught up. They have been edited into the first post of Round 3. Yay! Taking a cue from And now, Oyster reveals some hints about the numbers. They refer to the world events happening in Round 4, and only two numbers on each line are relevent. Happy hunting! And finally, Going to dedicate at least an hour each night to getting Round 4 written. I feel awful that it's taken so long, and am going to make a concerted effort of at least one hour a night to get it done. And if its anything like tonight, one hour will become three. |

Great to hear that you're organising yourself. As far as the numbers go, I have no idea. Numbers were never my thing. |

I'm kind of curious to know how you needed to edit a post with only one 4-letter word in it. Whilst I'm generally not a fan of bumping, I do agree with Ramen's intentions; an update on the update would be nice. |
