Status of Round 5

Brace yourselves, Round 5 is coming!

So, first up, time to announce which GM will be writing which responses:

Teuthis:
Eotyrannus,
Archie,
Sigma,
and Space Gorilla {'.'} -set 1-

MrHands:
Olympianmaster,
Martiitram,
Tor4c,
Watcher,
and Komodo

Oyster Man:
Uru,
Conriocht,
Starlora,
Ramensoup,
Chocolate Sawfish,
Bluejay,
Ankionyx,
Teuthis,
MrHands

As per usual these might change, but hey, it gives a good idea. On that note however, I am a terrible, horrible person, and also a control freak of a GM. In time being a control freak should hopefully subside, but I will probably be working with MrHands and Teuthis fairly closely for the short run. In time though they will have a lot of freedom to take their players where they want to go.

Tomorrow, Sunday, I will finish fixing up some things with the new map, and then we will start using that. Yay! Some player locations will be modified to ensure they are still in a proper climate, and if such is the case we will PM you to let you know.

All updates are due by the 15th of April. The GMs will be working writing responses as we get updates in, but on April 15th we will focus entirely on finishing the responses we have left and getting Round 5 up. Anyone left over will have the opportunity to have their response included as a part time portion of round 5.

If you didn't get a chance to update in round 3, don't worry. As long as you can PM one of the GMs by April 7th, we will include your response as a part time event in round 4.

I didn't hear anything against having a contest of some sort to keep you guys occupied in between rounds, though I'm still unsure of what would make a good reward for it. Since at the moment there isn't a whole lot of NPCs that need art at the moment, we will probably forgo the contest till between rounds 5 and 6. But submit me any ideas of what you would like, in the form of what kind of contest we should have, and ideas for rewards.

One idea for a reward that comes to my mind is letting someone see their response early, although they wouldn't be able to update until the next round, same as always.

Now Oyster, what about dem world events?

Ah World events, dastardly little buggers aren't they. First, as a pro tip to you guys, I'd like to clarify that negative and positive world events are very subjective things. A negative world event can actually be good in the long run, if handled properly. A positive world event can also be bad in the short run, if mishandled. You have been warned.

For now, since players are pretty well spread apart, world events will only affect a single player. But, as players start encountering each other, that can change. In time world events will become purely things that are happening to the world itself (i.e. plagues, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc) but the first phase can also include less wide scale things, such as humans or large NPCs moving into an area.

To begin, there will be three world events each round. However, after everyone has been affected by one, it will drop down to just two world events each round, and after that just one. Again, this is subject to change, and we'll see how the first phase goes and what everyone thinks about them.

The idea behind it is that you cannot predict when natural disasters will occur. Terrible things beyond your control will happen, but if you can adapt, if you can survive, you will be all the better for it.

And yes, another three players have been selected for world events this round.

This is a hidden Douglass. Don't ask me why I decided to name it that, it just seemed like the thing to do at the time. Before next round three of them will be hidden across the site. I'll make an announcement on the days that they're hidden. The first person that finds all three will, as might be a reward for the contest, get to see both their round 4 and round 5 responses early. Again, they just won't be able to post their updates until round 5 and round 6 accordingly.

Welcome to the new world.

We've come a long way

It's not perfect, and getting islands and rivers to cooperate was infuriating, but it'll do. Ignore the dark blue next to the tropical islands. That is regular shallow ocean. I don't care that fractal terrains thinks it should be abyssal. It is wrong.

I dialed back the number of rivers it was showing, simply because what it was graphing didn't make a lot of sense. In one instance it had a river start in between two mountains, make a U, and then come back into the bigger mountain. It made no sense. It was also not choosing prime starting areas, such as on the side of the big mountain. The rivers portrayed here do at least seem to make some kind of sense though, if incomplete. Looking at you, great plains river! Think of these as like super notable rivers, akin to our own Amazon and/or nile.

I might take Uru's suggestion on Skype, and finish them up with paint or gimp later.

As I mentioned earlier, some player locations have been moved. If you'd like to know where, or just want to see where you're at on the new map, ask one of us GMs. We will be porting locations over for the next few days, but as soon as we can we will let you know.

Oh, and there is a Hidden Douglass on the forum at the moment. I wonder where he could be.

Hey guys, just a quick reminder that if you didnt update last round, and were wanting to get in for the half time responses this round, tomorrow is the last day to pm them to the GM.

Oh yeah, and Douglass is feeling lonely. He's been hiding for a week an no one's found him.

The only Douglass I have been able to find is the one that Sigma Draconis has already found.

Edit: Added path to the Douglass that Sigma found.

Just checked, but he's still there. Still hiding. Still waiting. Brooding in solitude and apathy for those who would not seek him out.

Douglases also don't just have to be in my posts.
