Hey guys, So if you haven't heard already, Apotheosis is making a come back. Holy hell, this is super exciting. The Proper-Pothis has returned! But with this, I am curious what it will mean for Deus Plani. From the very get go, when I first posited the idea of DP on the Apotheosis forums, I described it as "The Not-Quite-Pothoisis to play while we wait for Proper-Pothis!" With it returning it really draws into question the relevancy of Deus Plani. To be clear from the onset, Deus Plani has some real flaws to it. A few of you have explained that you don't like the current implementation of World Events, and I agree that their current set up is a mistake. It also takes far too long for rounds to come out, and gets too bogged down in details that some times what's going on isn't exactly clear. More than that however, I think there's been a general declining of interest lately. The forums have grown very quiet, and even I myself have been losing some interest. I was going to try to do some things to fix this "soon;" which with the current way things are could still possibly mean a year from now. Essentially Round 10 would progress things by a very significant amount of time (ie: 100-1000 years), and the game would resume in the upper neolithic with civilizations well established. It would all be pre-bronze age, but depending on the things you guys have done and set forth would influence what kind of civilization you have. I might even allow people to go into this with a sort of character sheet, to potentially edit some of their prior details and set up what they want to be. Additionally I've been thinking to forgo the planned Global Event, and do this with Round 9 (next round). This would certainly make a very big change that I could begin working on almost immediately. In many ways this would be bringing Deus Plani closer to what my vision for it to be has been for a while. However, this in particular sounds very very similar to what Dial is wanting to do. As I explained in a PM to him:
Now to be clear, I'm not saying any of this to kill anyone's excitement for Apotheosis coming back. I am super excited for it, and I don't want to start any kind of rivalry, or be petty, or anything like that. However, I would like to hear you guys' thoughts on the matter. I have also thought that there's nothing that says there can't be two games that are very similar with slight differences. One has only to look at League of Legends and Defense of the Ancients, so in the end the return of Apotheosis might only mean that we have an active affiliate to put on the bottom of the forums. What do you guys think? |

I, personally, feel that Deus Plani explores a different avenue to Apotheosis. Deus is more character-based- you are here to inspire or dismay. Gods are mighty, but their voices are mightier. Apotheosis is more political- power is power, whether it be through trade or pillars of fire from the sky. Your two different writing styles complement each other when the games are ran alongside each other. |

But with that in mind, I can't help but wonder if some of that will be lost once things do progress to the civilization aspect. At that point politics will start entering the game, in which case I fear Deus will become little more than a re-skinned Apotheosis. |

I don“t know. I still think that even as time progresses, Deus Plani could end up witha different feel than Apotheosis. |

Hey guys, Quick shoutout to Nano and Sigma, you're the real MVPs. So it looks like it's pretty well settled that Apotheosis will be in the Paleolithic, and geographically in northern Siberia. http://s1.zetaboards.com/Conceptual_Evolution/topic/6127328/1/ Neanderthals, Denisovans, and prehistoric critters of that nature. Fun, similar, times On skype a few people have complained about the setting not letting them have big empires, and the gameplay that comes with that, so I wouldn't say it's completely settled just yet, but it seems pretty close to it.I have decided not to pull the plug on Deus Plani, at least for now. However, I think there will be some significant changes, pretty well in line with what I said about Rounds 9 and 10. Too much has happened in Deus Plani to just scrap it, yet there are some pretty glaring issues with the current system that I feel need to be addressed. Mistakes have been made, and its time for me to learn from them. What we will be doing is combining the best aspects of building on the existing framework, while providing something of a clean slate to move on from. However, as always, I want feedback from you guys! *** Far to the north the Luna de Vinter pooled their resources together to defeat the Dodsfald, a being that fed on both essence[1] and mana[2], a being which should not be. But its death did not come lightly. While life was sucked away from the land where the Dodsfald died, the Astral Plane suffered even more heavily. The Volatile energy swathed throughout its entirety, scalding everything in its wake, and burning scars between the realms. In the places where the planes were the closest the astral plane came pouring out and had to seek refuge. And suddenly, all across the world, from those whose emotions were distraught and pure, from mothers of lost children and those had their world's shattered, new Dodsfald were born. They were not as strong as the first, but still they were deadly. The gods reacted of course, and indeed many pushed back the incursion the best they could, but the ensuing conflict left the world weak. The Astrals had to retreat back to what remained of their ethereal home, and even the Primals had to slumber to preserve what little essence was left in the world. But though the gods slept the world did not. The gods may have been absent, but their mark on the world would be forever indistinguishable. Now almost two-and-a-half thousand years have passed, and the gods are reawakening. But what they find is a very different place than the one they left. In some places cities have emerged, and in others great nomadic tribes wander the landscape. Yet traces of the old world are still very much present. The old gods were never truly forgotten, and their every action shaped the world. The people of this world owe their cultures, and even the very environments they live in, to what the old gods founded. *** So yes, there will be a sort of Deus Plani 2.0 emerging, but it is still heavily reliant on everything that has happened in the current game. The setting will be changing from paleolithic to late neolithic/chalcolithic. In some ways this won't change much. Hunter gatherers will still be pretty prevalent, and much of the world is very much untamed. Keeping in line with some of the Deus Plani fantasy, there's even going to be a lot of the old megafauna, though much of it is in decline. It will be up to the players somewhat to save the mammoths and megatheriums from extinction. However the world population has substantially increased, what with the agricultural revolution in full swing now, and cities and villages as we recognize them today will be present in some areas. You can kind of think of the world as being ancient mesopotamian and egyptian in terms of technological advancements. Because of this there is also a lot more inter-human conflict, and being militaristic will be significantly easier. Most of the cultures that exist in this world will be based on the framework that the players and NPCs have established so far. The world will have changed to reflect what they were working towards, and the peoples will even have changed so as to resemble the old gods in one way or another.[3] If you remember back to the old plans for Deus, this is the first example of people changing from something like sapiens into elves and neanderthals into dwarves, and the environment reflecting the local gods, such as becoming an enchanted forest or a fiery lava land. This should hopefully allow players the opportunity to hop right back into the saddle with their pre-exsisting gods, with their people having moved smoothly along the track they would have wanted, but without having to wait a super long time to get there. New gods and players will still be able to join as well, and will have the option either to draft an old-god and the things that they did, or start out brand new within the existing framework. I think this will allow for some interesting gameplay either way. Likewise, if some things have happened with you guys that you don't particularly like, I will give you the opportunity to edit your history into something you find a bit more appealing -to an extent. Also, by no means do you have to keep playing the same god, if you do not want to. I'm still a little unsure of how to handle things with prophets and important peoples. Some will probably have died, as people have a tendency to do in two-and-a-half thousand years. However I think that would be really lame for the people who were raising children into prophets, such as Rur and Malekan, and even for prophets in general, such as Takesoba, Valve, and Shera. I will probably continue with the idea I had before, which is that prophet figures are immune to old age, so these people in particular will be exceptionally valuable to returning gods. Its also possible some of them could have disappeared with their gods, and are returning with them. *** Hopefully this will bring Deus Plani a bit closer to some of the visions I've had for it, as well as address some of the issues that have since arisen. It may even help us to stand out a little bit from both the original Apotheosis and the new one.[4] I suppose the future will tell. Also, I just want to take a brief moment to say how awesome Dial is being with this whole situation. In a PM he told me, "I will make sure always to divert people towards the Deus Planni forum as well, I plan on including a direct link to it next to the spec evo forum part." So BOOM, official affiliates, both ways. Super exciting! I hope that in the future we can continue to mutually support one another. I know that I will also be participating in Paleo-Pothis; which is a great nickname no matter what jasonguppy says. I'm hoping to role as one of the NPCs I have planned for Deus, so maybe that's a cool way to tie the two games together as a sort of reference, and might give you guys insight to them later. Anyway, that's the general idea. I really would like to hear your thoughts on the matter, and nothing is set in stone, so I may be willing to change things further still. If I'm not being clear enough on something, please let me know, and I will try to elaborate further. Additionally, how do you guys feel about a reimplementation of the like button, as well as awards/achievements similar to the set up on the Spec-Evo forums? [1] This term will now refer to all primal energy [2] This term will now refer to all astral energy [3] People changing in particular will be touchy, and something we have to handle with care and consideration. Trying my hardest to prevent the game from generating, or tapping into, real world racism. More on this later. [4] Fun fact, Apotheosis was actually based on another forum RP simply titled "the God Game." |

Question- Will the beasts be progressing in a similar manner? Because with Last Parent's current level of power, dragonfish empire seems imminent.

Yup! They sure would. Though for them it would be more to essentially evilve them quite a bit, and essentially distribute them over a wide territory. They might not have an empire or much unity, but you could easily start working towards that. |

So with the jump I assume that domestication may have started with my people since they have the whole senacrel thing in their belief. |

@Hands, very likely. You'll probably at least get pigs, as well as more bountiful crops from the be-leaf thing. I'll have to look at the notes to figure out how to extrapolate some things, but you guys will get a pretty big say in it. @Sigma, yeah, Id go ahead and post. You can squeeze some more things for your future people. Plus I just want to read it :p Same goes for everyone else who hasn't posted. |
