Chaos

It was a cold and rainy night as a figure walked through the streets. To his side was another figured which he spoke to.

"Alright Asvard, trust me, we can't do this without him. Just...keep you know what a secret alright?"

J looked around until he found the goal, a local tavern, Hammer'd. J let out a soft chuckle as he entered and took off the hood from the raincoat he was wearing. He looked...normal. No scars, no markings, he looked just like he had back at Wento. He sat down at a table and shouted out, "Yo! Three mugs of your finest mead, beer, sake, wine, whatever, just get me a drink and I'll pay!"

He leaned back in his chair as he looked around. He had sent Zarion a letter to meet him here for a job...the question was if he'd show up on time or not.

J forced a smile as he took the punch, "Because...I needed to dissapear." J's smile began to shake as he kept talking, "Because I wasn't strong enough and would rather die than face you as a disgraced warrior..."

J thought about what he could say for a moment before continuing, "I wish I could tell you, tell everyone, what happened...but I'd just be endangering them. I chose to ask you for help because I know you're strong enough, likely stronger than anyone I know. If you will help me...meet me outside."

J quietly turned and walked out of the bar, and walked up to the entrance to a nearby alley.

"Huh, 'e did say 'e was gonna pay, wasn't 'e..." Asvard mused, stroking his chin. "Guess one of us or the other's gotta foot the bill..."

He looked at Zarion. "I'd recommend comin' 'long. I've known the pain o' losing a companion or two, meself. And if I ever found ou' the bugger was alive... 'ell, I'd probably give 'em 'ell too. But then I think I'd be so gla' 'ey're finally back to meh, it don't really matter."

He proceeded to begin digging in the pockets of his coats. "Now 'elp me pay fer this. I didn't think ta bring a load of dosh on this mission..."

Zarion sighed and pulled a coin purse from near his belt and looked inside. Nothing. He peered closer. Still nothing. He flipped the bag over and shook it out into his hand. A single copper coin fell into his palm. Zarion then remembered his recent expenses. Normally Zarion had a fair bit more than this. He got a decent flow of coin from his jobs at the guild, and when he somehow did run short, his old crew would always show up to spot him some gold. However, since he'd been doing nothing but training for months, his funds were basically nonexistent.

Getting his daggers repaired at the blacksmith: 1 Gold, 8 Silver for each dagger.
Purchasing new throwing knives custom forged for use with his rope: 4 Gold, 20 Silver.
Buying expensive new clothes for Anala after being a proximate cause of her dress being ruined: 19 Gold, 29 Silver, 38 Copper
Taking a quick refresher course on physical magic while training after the festival: 11 Gold, 49 Silver, 99 Copper
New Rope: 93 Silver, 58 Copper

Total Expenses: 38 Gold, 8 Silver, and 95 Copper

"I, uh... shit, I thought I had more than this," he said, then asked Asvard to wait for a moment. Zarion walked out and came back pulling J by a rope. "C'mon, J, can't have ya forgetting about stuff like this!"

J chuckled as he was dragged back, right he had forgotten. He always did have a habit of letting his emotions get the better of him.

He pulled out a small sack and grabbed a gold coin chucking it at the barkeep, who caught it.

"That should cover drinks and some damages..."

Should be enough to rent the room too...

"And the rest for the room if you will..."

The bartender's eyes lit up and he opened a locked room which led to a flight of stairs. "I never saw either of you and anybody who did was drunk out of their minds."

J smiled at that as he went to the stairs. He assumed the others were following and explained as he went.

"This place down here is a special place that the bartender rents out to those wanting more private meetings. Here I should be able to explain the plan without worry for prying ears." It might have sounded like J knew what he was doing, but he was just repeating the thoughts Vincent sent him regarding this room. When they reached the bottom, there was a lone lantern which J lit before laying out a map of what seemed to be a castle.

"Perhaps you've heard of the Excalibur Shards Zari? Turns out the 'shards' are keys, and we're about to steal one." J had a large smirk as he said that, "Are you in?"

"T' explain a bit..." Asvard said, leaning against a wall. "'Keys' dun refer t' a specific kinda object. They're jes magic items with considerable power. Fer example, this," he added, flourishing Curtana as well as he could, "issa key. They're wi' pretty potent magical effects - fer example, Curtana here 'as mastery over water magic - but sometimes they have a bi' o' a weird shape... an' a bit o' a personality pro'lem."

"You are aware I can hear you, but no one can hear me, right?"

Asvard shrugged. "Anyway, they're why I me' yer friend in the firs' place. Kinda a long story... but I'd join in if I was ya."
