When it comes to adventure, nothing beats a good mountain. A nigh-untamed pinnacle high, high in the sky, below it untold loot. That's how Orion felt as he scaled a path up Clawtip Peak, alongside his guildmate Iris. It was uncommon for a draconis to make a request of their guild, so having an excuse to travel here was a special opportunity indeed. The request involved slaying a monster that had been attacking those patrolling the mountain's exterior. If draconis were having trouble fighting it, then it was a doubtless formidable opponent. But unlike draconis, the Black Dahlias didn't just rely on brute force.

"We'll be there soon," Orion muttered from under his helmet, mostly to himself. "With any luck, this thing'll lose its footing and fall off the mountain before we have to do anything."

Iris trudged behind Orion. She was thinking about how best to take down the opponent and just what beast it could be. Something that could take down so many draconis was uncommon. Perhaps it was an actual dragon? No, then they would have been specifically told they were on a dragon slaying job. In that case a brand new species? If that was the case then why hadn't they been given a researcher to take with them? The guild revealing they had discovered a new species was just the kind of excuse for an elaborate press meet that Arvis loved.

No matter, her task to was to neutralize a threat, and that was what she would do.

Iris grabbed her rifle from her back and began to listen closely.

"Ready?"

Orion immediately swerved around and pulled his axe out. "Is it here already? I thought we still had a ways to go!" He slowly examined the area. Nothing. Just rocks and dirt all the way down. "Thanks for the false alarm..."

It was then that he heard something, and his ear twitched. It was faint, probably too faint for human ears to pick up, coming from the right of the path. Footsteps. "3 o'clock, Iris!" He jumped out of the way just in time as a stream of flame scorched the spot he'd been on a second prior. He glanced up to get a look at their assailant, and was shocked by what he saw. Ten feet away stood a draconis woman, dressed in ragged noble attire...and with ropelike tentacles emerging from the ends of her wings. Her pitch-black eyes showed no sign of intelligence, only mindless bloodlust.

Orion had thought it was impossible, but here before them stood a demonic draconis.

As soon as Orion shouted, Iris was quick to avoid the flames. This would be a pain if it could do ranged attacks. She took a look at the target, tattered clothing, black eyes, rampaging...a demon. The lack of control made one thing clear.

"A failed demon."

Iris took aim, and fired off a single shot at the opponent's head.

The demon let out a bestial roar and leapt towards the duo just as Iris pulled the trigger, bending forward just enough for the bullet to miss her head. She swiped at Iris with her claws, an attack Orion attempted to block with his axe...but it ended up sending him flying several yards downhill.

Iris frowned, this was going to be difficult...

"Gear One..."

She dodged out of the way of the attack and watched as Orion was knocked back. He was likely fine. If he wasn't, then he didn't deserve to be a member of Black Dahlias.

Iris took aim, and sent another shot out at the draconis, this time aiming for the torso.

Orion groaned as he pulled himself up. That wasn't even close to a direct hit and it still knocked him that far...just how strong was this thing?

The demon screeched as the bullet entered her midsection, but immediately clawed at Iris's gun-arm. But she was so preoccupied with Iris that she failed to notice Orion until he was bringing his axe down on her. She reflexively leapt back, but the attack still managed to graze her arm. The draconis examined her wounds, and for a brief second almost seemed vaguely sane, something Orion picked up on. "Iris, incapacitate, don't kill! I don't think this one's lost just yet!"

As the draconis charged Iris uttered two words, "Gear Two.."

Using her enhanced speed she nimbly dodged the attack...is what she would have liked. Even with her speed, she felt the claws tear into her skin. She winced as the claws left her body when the draconis jumped back. She clutched her arm and glared at the foe.

"....Understood...Keep it in place...Gear Three..."

She tossed her rifle aside, it'd be too difficult to hit the draconis reliably, instead she pulled out her rifle and began to move in close.

"Easier said than done!" Unlike his companion, Orion didn't use much magic, and saying it'd be tough to restrain something like a demon draconis would be a huge understatement. But, he figured, he didn't need to restrain her...

Rather than attack, he put his axe away and waved his arms at the draconis, who, without regard for her other opponent, tackled and pinned him to the ground. She started clawing at his armor, which was just what he had hoped for, because her claws alone failed to pierce the black metal. But the beast kept trying in vain, apparently not willing to try a different approach...yet. "Iris, hurry up before she decides I taste better medium rare!"

There it was, the perfect opportunity...of sorts. Looked like Orion really could think on his feet. Iris was quick to move towards the demon, and placed her handgun's barrel up to her temple. She concentrated on serene landscapes, adorable puppies, and the scent of fresh flowers. Once she was close enough, she pulled the trigger.

"Thought Transfer!"

A thought bullet shot from her, flying right at the demon that was a foot away at this point. If it hit, the bullet would fill the draconis with those very thoughts Iris had been focusing on. If there was any sanity left in this thing hopefully it would react to something there.

At first, the thought bullet seemed to have no effect. The demon's head whirled towards Iris, as if she only just remembered she existed. She rose to her feet, giving up on Orion in favor of less-protected prey. Grabbing Iris by the neck with one arm, she raised the other and began to slash the woman's face off, when all of a sudden she came to a dead halt. Her eyes widened, and expression changed to one of concern. She glanced down at Orion and then back to Iris, the reality of her situation slamming into her like a runaway train. She released her grip on Iris and stumbled backwards, falling to the ground. She curled up into fetal position and began rocking back and forth while mumbling with a strange echo to her poshly-accented voice. "Not again, not again, not again, not again, not again, not again..."

Orion stood up, silently bemoaning that was the second time in the past five minutes he had to do so. "Looks like your magic gun worked...kinda."

"Of course it worked asshole, now get off your lazy ass and secure the target," Iris snapped at Orion. Ah yes, the side effect of forcing all of those thoughts out of her head and into another. She would likely be a little rough around the edges for a bit...

Iris walked over towards the draconis and began to talk, "Hey demon, explain yourself!"

The girl glanced up at Iris, staring at her blankly for a moment while continuing to mumble, before finally addressing her. "Explain? Explain. That's something I suppose I owe you, and yet I cannot."
Orion stepped towards her. "And why can't you?"
"I don't have much in the way of answers, myself. Simply that some human woman did this to me, and ever since it's been a struggle to stay sane..." She trailed off, as if remembering something she didn't wish to talk about.

"Screw it, I don't got the patience for this..." Iris pointed at Orion, "You. Detain her. We take her back and have somebody else get some answers out of her, then I get some peace and..."

Iris blushed as the effects of her spell wore off on her. She walked off to pick up her rifle, uttering one word, "Embarrassing..."

From under his helmet, Orion grimaced. The girl was hardly qualified to be giving him orders like that, with that attitude. In fact, he didn't detain her. "Hold on a second, kid. If the girl's telling the truth, we wanna make sure her mind's in top condition before setting out. Do you wanna fight her again? 'Cause I certainly don't." He sat down across from the draconis and pulled out a canteen, silently offering it to her. She immediately smacked it away. "D-disgusting! I shall not drink from the same flask as some sweaty barbarian!"
Orion facepalmed. "And yet you're sitting on the dirty ground, in a dress with more holes than Azaltian cheese. Never mind, what's your name, kid?"
The girl stared at him blankly for a moment, and for a second Orion thought she might be lapsing back into madness, but finally, she spoke again. "Chyvata Rolica Asceles-Yavolle, of the high house of Asceles-Yavolle. You will address me as Lady Chyvata."

Oh great, a noble. "You're...not really in a position to make demands of us, princess."
