Kestrel Skhal Name: Kestrel Skhal Nickname: The Dark Falcon Age: 17 Birthday: September 1 Gender: Male Family: Arvid Skhal (Father) Alive Branwen Skhal (Mother) Alive Digivice Style: Digivice iC - Primarily a dark purple color with black outlining. Appearance: ![]() Personality: Kestrel is an unusual sort whose mind isn't bound by the typical limitations of humans. And by that, I mean he tends to believe the unbelievable a lot more often than one probably should. He thinks aliens exist, fairies are real, werewolves are a type of creature he would like to feel their fur, and that vampires do NOT sparkle. His mind operates on off-kilter wheels which tends to work for him despite the way his eccentric nature may irk people. Kestrel at the core is a highly logical teenager with a brain that deduces situations like an unfolding story and has often been able to figure out the next few steps of a mystery before the proof is even off the ground, or determine someone's interest in another just from the way their movements shift and eyes flutter every second and a half like a romantic. He's been termed as 'rather freaky' not only in the way he vocally comes to his conclusions, but how often right he can be. Not to say he's never been wrong before, oh he's shown more than his fair share of embarrassment whenever he hits a wall or leads someone or himself down the wrong path and becomes dead set on making it right. Generally he is a kind if not slightly awkward person, always doing his best not to step on other people's toes even though his manner of speaking tends to do that anyways. He loathes people who hoard power and wave it around like egotists and even more despises bullies that go out of their way to harm others, especially those who don't have the will or strength to fight back. Although smart enough to be in college already he chooses to remain at the same level and grade as the others, not feeling to be in any rush nor does he wish to feel superior to anybody either by skipping ahead, even as the teachers insist to him that it's 'just natural for a genius to do'. He considers himself no genius, just intuitive and improvisational, traits he believes anyone can develop if they were to try. And as a side note, please don't get into an argument with him on if the supernatural or mythological exist, he will fight tooth and nail with almost ridiculous enthusiasm in favor of their existence. The generally meek and conserved nature comes into direct conflict with what is known as his "Dark Falcon" persona, a manifestation of emotions and powers that feed into Kestrel's desire for justice towards those who do wrongs or harm others without any sense of remorse. He becomes a lot colder in perspective and focused instead of flighty and vocal, fixating his gaze upon his target like a predator to its prey and using his already analytical mind to determine the best course of action to take them down, a lot of the times involving violence. His sense of morality becomes blurred when he commits to this side and it may be due in part to the spirit that grants him the powers that he does have, or maybe he's wearing one too many masks and he no longer knows what his true personality is: if it's kind and compassionate, or cold and devious, as he finds a particular enjoyment in playing the role of a vigilante in the eyes of the law. It creates a rush inside of him, a work of adrenaline. It makes him feel ten times taller than what he really is. Kestrel's mind is ultimately an enigma with numerous layers. Peel one away and you find another in your way. Whether Kestrel will find his true identity; a stereotypical dork, analytical genius, radical deviant, or sociopathic fighter, is anyone's guess... including his own. History: Kestrel's history is about as blase and simple as you'd find in any database. He grew up, born and raised, in Los Santos with his two parents and was happy with the life that he had in the years he spent growing up. With a father always there for him playing silly little kids games to keep his mind pre-occupied, and his mother actively working not only to keep the scum of the city off the street but also make it a bit safer of a place for her son to live day-by-day, Kestrel seemed to have the perfect life. As he turned 10 his father began to read him the most fascinating of books, stories that revolve around great mysteries with numerous twists and turns that make the reader and listener's mind go wild. They were enthralling and almost intoxicating to the young lad. And not just those, but any sort of fictional piece of writing he could get his hands on. As young as 12 he was given a library card by his happily smiling father and ushered into the guild library, shy as he may have been, to look for anything that might appeal to him. He almost never came out, and it took his father searching aisle by aisle before finding his son nestled in a corner nose deep into a science fiction book. Kestrel absolutely adored stories and began coming up with little fictional ideas in his head which inevitably found their way onto paper. Day by day he would doodle, week by week he would try to create fine drafts only to frown and huff, and erase it all a few seconds later out of discontent. He became obsessed with fiction, and it was clear to him that he wanted to become a writer going into his teenage years. However his bright and positive leash on life became jilted when his mother was fatally shot during a stand-off, requiring immediate medical attention and intensive surgery that left her out of commission for well over half a year. There was no family cheer, especially not in Kestrel who saw his mom as a hero who stopped the bad guys. Thank all the superhero comics and books he's read. Even after the day she announced she was fully recovered, Kestrel was the first to beg not to go back into the force as he worried for her safety, only to be declined as his mother Branwen told him that "She's doing it for him, for everyone." But that answer wasn't good enough and he ran to his room sobbing, frustrated that real life was so cruel and could push people to such lengths, make someone like his mother risk her life and knowing that she could very well lose it despite her selfless nature. That sparked a change in him and as he became older, to the present day, he vowed that he would be the one to protect others the way they deserve to be protected: reassured that whomever's aiming to harm them in any which way or form can't possibly find their way to do so again. That's when a certain spirit came to him, a digimon spirit but not just any kind, but one that pledged a "duty to justice" and had heard Kestrel's heart cry out for him. Confused but excited, Kestrel wanted to accept the spirit right away but was warned from making such a rash decision without hearing the whole story first. Although he would gain power, lots of power that would allow him to help people, Kestrel himself would forever change and it would be impossible to turn back. He would have to be able to look himself in the mirror and accept whatever decisions he makes from then on, as someone with great power harbors great responsibility. Kestrel, regardless of the warning that he may not be the same person ever again, agreed. It wasn't every day that something you could only imagine in stories coming true, much less that power being granted to you. Now he would be able to protect anyone he chose. There was no way that what happened to his mom would ever happen again. It wouldn't happen to anyone ever again. The Dark Falcon would make sure of that. Special Abilities: Any special abilities that Kestrel have are dependent entirely on his spirit partner. In terms of powers he has by himself as an individual; due to the bond that formed between his primary spirit Justice and himself, his physical attributes such as his natural speed, strength and stamina have increased a sizable amount. Not enough to be mind-blowing or to allow Kestrel to just go and punch a champion digimon in the face and hope to live, but he's notably stronger than most humans now despite his more lean physique that suggests otherwise. The physical boost is permanent as well, and does not apply to the physical & magical capabilities granted to him when he utilizes his spirits more directly. Notes: * Kestrel's name is derived from a real bird, a falcon, whose meaning translates to: "a small falcon that hovers with rapidly beating wings while searching for prey on the ground." * Similarly, Kestrel's parents are named after some type of bird. Branwen translates to "beautiful raven" while Arvid translates to "Eagle Tree" which could give a nod to how he upholds himself in society as the father's rooted himself contently at home while the mother is the one bringing in the finances. * Kestrel is a spiritual successor to "Dameon Crawford" from A New Digital Chance and share similarities. The current day Dameon is very pragmatic and utilizes methods that are morally questionable but at the same time there is no question to whether they're being used for good or not. Kestrel similarly acts as a hand of justice as the Dark Falcon and will go to extremes to protect others, although sometimes his intentions become blurred and a concern to others. |

Personal Relations Digimon Spirits: Justice ~ When first accepted into him, Justice introduced himself as a "spirit of justice" true to form that could not operate like other normal digimon due to a strange anomaly within his code that disallowed actual merging of his spiritual form and his host, nor allowing him to be reborn as a digi-egg. As a result he can only give Kestrel power indirectly, a fact he isn't entirely fond of as he'd rather fight with his own wings and claws, but contenting himself whenever he senses the determination in Kestrel's soul to do right. However their views of what's right can differ and during these key moments when Justice's more morally ambiguous actions are executed due to his influence, Kestrel cannot help but wonder about the rightness of them. Although more and more when they fight together the boy's own moral compass turns increasingly grey. Without Justice even realizing it, the Falcomon spirit himself is causing a change in Kestrel's persona, perhaps due to the anomaly. Kestrel is only partially aware of the changes and is confused on what to think of or believe when he does, although he still has a quiet and known respect for his spirit partner regardless. Status: Primary Spirit Family: Arvid Skhal ~ Kestrel has a strained relationship with his father. Although in the beginning he was the picture perfect dad, during the time his mother was in the hospital recovering from her fatal injury, at some point Arvid and Branwen chose to separate from one another and the former moved elsewhere in Los Santos due to the same issue that Kestrel had with his mother: she was too stubborn about sticking with a career choice that nearly killed her. He didn't want to stick around to see her injured so badly again or worse, possibly die. Despite similar concerns and frustrations, Kestrel has not visited his father since he moved due to anger that he'd leave both him and mom alone. Kestrel was still a teenager to the core, so internally he found it hard to understand that his parents whom he grew up so happily with would separate in the first place. Status: Father Branwen Skhal ~ Kestrel has a very tight-knit relationship with his mother and she was the reason that he adopted Justice as a spirit within himself and became the Dark Falcon, a figure whom she holds great distrust towards due to his rebellious nature against the law. She feels that the Dark Falcon undermines them, believes them weak either in general or at their job, and there's a bit of quiet animosity growing on her part. Branwen is unaware, however, that this individual she's harboring a loathing nature towards is actually her eccentric and intellectual son. She loves Kestrel dearly, often worrying about his safety which is why she pursues her job with such vigor, not to mention his social life as the way he holds himself has brought her to his High School more than once due to the inclusion of bullies in the mix. There's also a clear level of trust between mother and son on her side as she's aware of his 'gifts' in unraveling mysteries, sometimes coming to him in search of advice for a case she may be on that involves a lot more information gathering and detective work than she's used to, being 'just' a cop, although Kestrel always insists to her she's more than that and could be more if she pushed for it. Secretly, some of his reasoning for trying to get her to consider a different branch in her career is to pursue a path with less danger. Kestrel loves his mother deeply and will go nuts if anyone ever tries to hurt her in his line of sight. Status: Mother Love Interests: - Friends: - Enemies/Rivals: - Others: Keith Moons ~ The two meet for a brief time in Staten City, where Keith's parents hail from. Kestrel had gone to the city briefly in chase of a valuable item that belonged to his mother which had been uplifted from her person during a robbery gone sour. He met Keith at that point and got along with him for the brief time they were together although there was a slight wariness in the air. Later, Keith would run into the "Dark Falcon" persona and although doing his best, Kestrel allowed a bit too much of himself to be revealed and through quiet deduction, Keith was able to pin the two and two together. Keith held a level of distrust in regards to the Dark Falcon persona and specifically, the way he used violence as a means to an end, but ultimately the two reconciled their differences and Kestrel offered him a place to stay in Los Santos if he were to ever come that way, as he had to go back. "There were a lot of things to do", he said... Status: Acquaintance |
