Jin travelled slowly across Magumar. The boiling lava threatened to scald him as his heat resistant boat and paddle continued to float along with the sun at his back. He was a small town boy and had never been off his island before. He wiped sweat off his brow as he continued paddling. His heart was racing as he recalled the events of the night before. The demons attacked mercilessly. Jin could still remember his Mother’s white hair as she jumped in the way of a ki blast and pushed him onto the boat. Her last word to her son was “escape”. That was exactly what he was doing. He was no coward. He wanted to fight and had been trying to but he was not about to disrespect his mother’s dying wish. That was something he could not afford to do. Hours passed as Jin rowed.

“Gah! I should just fly” Jin said as he continued rowing. He wanted to but his father’s words echoed through his mind loudly. Son, when people are chasing you, you stay as low to the ground as you can. A tall target is an easy target.

He spit into the lava, causing bubbles to splash, luckily away from him. Even with his Maguma-Jin skin, lava would hurt. He hated his father and everything he stood for. The thief was good for nothing but saving his own hide. Yet, Jin found himself taking his father’s advice readily. Afterall, if he wanted to live, who better to listen to than the man who was harder to kill than a lavaroach? Jin quickly realized a flaw in his bulletproof plan of listening to his criminal father’s advice. He had no idea where he was going or even how to tell which direction he was going. He was an oddity as far as Maguma-Jin were concerned. You see, on his island, they were farmers.

Someone had to produce the food that the nearby cities ate and so they did it. This left little time for joyful activities like surfing or sailing. Especially once their father left them and it was just his mother and him. Life was difficult as a farmer with a full family but it was even harder with just the two of them. Jin was still years away from having children of his own but, if he survived this incident, he would not become the man his father was.

Jin shielded his eyes from the sun as he sailed forward. Barely noticing the land in front of him, Jin began to row rapidly in order to reach the shore. His stomach growled as he went. The situation had hardly caused for an opportunity to grab food before he had left. Jin cocked his head slightly to the left, as if to question what he was seeing. This island looked strangely familiar. He could have sworn that rock formation looked just like the one he had jumped off of into the depths below when he was younger. Being the naïve youth that he was, Jin cast doubts aside and pulled his rowboat up to the dock. The white haired woman standing before him was undoubtedly familiar. Jin ran forward and hugged the woman from behind as he yelled “Mom! You’re okay!”

“You’ve been a very bad boy, Jin. Why did you run from me?” His mother said as she pushed him off her. Her eyes glowed red. This was not his home, like he had thought. This was not his mother, either. It couldn’t be.This was some other world. He had no other explanation. The woman grabbed Jin by the throat and then the world went black.
