900 Deep in the Gar’ten district of Vegeta City, a warehouse was playing host to a most peculiar gathering of Saiyans. There was a great battle raging, but not the sort one would expect. Instead of fists and energy making gory messes out of the participants, holographic weapons filled their hands, illusory armor covered their chests, and magnificent lighting effects flew from the fingertips of those involved. What was happening was a LARP of a most unique variety. To an outsider, it seemed to be a building full of maniacs yelling and swinging invisible sticks at each other. If one donned a headset programmed to show you the shared illusion, the device would insert you into the game as far as rendering vibrations and numbness to simulate impacts and wounds. To an active race such as the Saiyans, this was the ideal alternative to traditional tabletop games. On the field, an ogre of a man with white skin and long dreadlocks as black as pitch roared a war cry as he swung his maul in a wide arc, sending three lightly armored players reeling back. The beastman grinned through his jagged tusks and charged, barreling through the lines of foes before him before being brought to a stop by a dwarf with a shield raised in defense. ”Ye won be gettn tha bes o’ me laddie!” Shouted the dwarf as he swung his flail low and tripped the pale beast. ”Say g’night!” Rolling out of the way, Wrolen avoided the crushing deathblow as it came crashing down from above. He was without his weapon, but he saw another good one readily available. He dove for the dwarf, a mad hunger in his eyes being met by an equally mad glee in the dwarf’s. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- On a platform above the never-ending throng of LARPers, a rest area and observation deck could be found. Sitting with a towel around his neck and a loincloth on his hips, Wrolen lounged while enjoying the holographic projection fantasy battle. Elves shooting arrows and wizards casting spells, he rolled his eyes, amazed that in the heat of it, he would genuinely enjoy participating in the mock violence when the real stuff was easily attainable. He looked to his side where another Saiyan lounged with a fat cigar between his teeth. He took the smoldering stogie from his mouth, exposing the brand on his hand, the encircled Mandatum. The Saiyan was Gorzo, Wrolen’s right hand and the man he trusted to oversee his operations while he kept a low profile on Namek. ”What can I say, Wrolen? When you’re right, you’re right.” He chuckled to himself as he took in the brawling masses below. ”Never would have figured you for the type to enjoy these things though, but regardless of your personal interest, it makes for a prefect laundering front.” He shoved a hand into an ice-filled box and lobbed a cold bottle at the blonde man who caught it, popped the cap off with his thumb and downed half of it without looking away from the scene once. ”I might have developed an interest in the concept, the universe is vast and filled with many things for us to discover, Gorzo.” He tipped the bottle up and finished what remained, wiping the froth from his lip as he lowered the bottle to the table between them. ”The profits are impossible to track, so we can report whatever we please. I suppose that makes this both business and pleasure.” Gorzo hummed an affirmative in response, remaining captivated by the artful violence beneath them. ”So… You going to forget about us down here in the underworld when you’re the mighty king of all Saiyans?” A silence followed, but Gorzo knew that it was Wrolen’s way to think before he spoke. ”I cannot be the same kind of king as my ancestors… their ways were flawed, and only their deaths and replacement would stabilize the chaos they bred.” ”Aye, not a normal king then, there’s hope for us petty crooks yet.” Wrolen held out his hand and it was quickly filled with another bottle. Bringing the glass before him, he stared into its swirling depths. ”Not a king… but perhaps if we consider our reach… an Emperor.” Gorzo blinked and stared for a few seconds, then opened another beer, knocking it back in one go. When he finished, he let out a satisfied sigh. ”Emperor Wrolen… Aye, I could dance to that song if someone was willin ta play it.” Wrolen raised a brow. ”You know you can drop the dwarvish accent when you’re not on the field.” Gorzo chuckled. ”I cann’e help it! You’ve infected me with a mighty compelling disease, Viscount!” The two shared a hearty laugh as they finished their refreshment, standing near the edge of the deck when they were done. ”Shall we?” Wrolen tapped the tiny headpiece that overlaid the scene before him. In a shimmering display, the Saiyan’s went from wearing only a loincloth to the flowing robes and staves of a magus. ”Shall we try this for a change?” He said as runes began appearing before him, tuning in place and humming with power. ”Casters? An interesting choice.” Gorzo waved his hands before him and globes of several elements convalesced around him in orbit. He shot Wrolen a wild grin. ”To battle!” He shouted, and the two leapt from their perch onto one of Wrolen’s runes, letting it propel them like cannonballs into the middle of the fray. The Geif saw the looks of surprise on his "allies" faces as he ran through the enemy with his staff. They could see a powerful figure not far away who looked just like him. Of course, that figure was the reason the Geif had come here. His power was unfathomable, but was it enough? The Geif wasn't sure. Those with great power sometimes lacked skill. He would need to test this one. "Hey, you think you are tough? Try me" HE said to his doppelganger. [THE GEIF CHALLENGES WROLEN] |
