Hello! Welcome to Broken Futures!

Although we are a based on Dragon Ball keep in mind that we use it for the elements the show brought to us. We are not using ANY canon characters, only the world in which the show was built on. We are mostly a free form RPG with some stats to help track character growth. However, for the most part, your stats only matter in important fights or large events ran by a GM/DM.

We don't have any specific guidelines on what can or cannot be written about. So long as the Zetaboards ToS isn't violated. If a topic gets mature, keep it reasonable and do your best not to violate the host ToS. We don't like to limit you to what you want to write about and will trust your judgement not to make any posts in the extreme.

We are set in Future Trunks' timeline so the world is in ruin. Which would classify it as post-apoc. It's always been the best-styled setting to build a new world on top of. We have built this site to be based around the actions of the players. You will help build the world you're playing in. Every action within major events will influence how the world structures itself.

We have no word count, no canon face claims, no post formatting and no drama. We want you to come here and have fun. Before you sign up, please look over the Game a bit to decide if you are interested. After you've made an account make sure to introduce yourself here and say hello in the Chatbox. Jack Trader
It had taken him an entire day and night to reach the desert from the base of the tower. He had started to drift, aimlessly, after all that had happened to him. He spent most of it marking the earth with tears at all he had lost and over the one promise that meant more to him than anything else in all his existence...

Previously in Haven Port

Jack proceeded deeper into the wilderness, carrying only his clothes, his pack, his guitar, the sword that would remain with him until death, and...

a diamond ring.

He had pulled it from his shorts pocket and glanced down at it and the inscription he had carved upon it with his energy. He had promised her everything...

...but he had given her nothing. And, when the moment arrived in which he was supposed to protect her, she died against something he could neither understand nor destroy.

He returned the ring to his pocket and kept walking, not knowing or caring where he headed. The world didn't need Jack Trader, it seemed. It didn't want him. And it certainly didn't want him happy and free.

He pushed open the door ahead of him without even realizing that he had even arrived at the bar. He stepped inside and kept his head bowed as any man would when crushed by the weight of his world and crippled by the pain and grief of loss. He shuffled forward and decided to seat himself at the bar.

"Hey, stranger. You look thirsty. Want something to drink?" The bar tender asked him.

"Water," Jack told him.

"This ain't no public fountain, mister. Order something and pay up or get out." The bar tender insisted.

Jack placed the ring onto the bar counter and repeated himself. "Water."

Daze
"Whoa, new kid. Calm down. I know I told you to be stern with new people. But he's obvious no thug," an older man cleaning the tables in the bar said to the young bartender.

The young boy at the bar quickly changed his tone and demeanor, getting the water ready for their client and sliding down his way. Without much more of a second to process this, a loud stumble could be heard just a few feet away. There, of all the places, laid Daze, sprawled out on the ground as if he just fell down a flight of stairs.

Which he did.

"Ow... shit. Doesn't matter," Daze muttered, standing up to his feet and dragging himself over near Jack. "Yo Lurch. Found my home, huh?" Daze asked rhetorically. "Who's the new kid Bruce?" Daze asked, looking over at the older balding man.

There was little excitement, joy or any emotion at all in anything Daze said. He felt.. empty.
"Some hired help. I'm getting old Daze. Not that you'd know what that's like," he teased.

"Not in the mood Bruce. I... I feel like I lost something," Daze said, looking to Lurch. "He knows the feeling. Better than I.."

"Thank you," Jack said when offer the glass of water.

He drank it down slowly and set it down, half-drained, back onto the coaster provided. He looked over toward the other patron and managed a forced grin when he recognized him as Daze. He paid little attention to the banter between Daze and whoever Bruce was (Jack certainly couldn't be sure if that was the man's actual name or not given Daze's insistence on calling people by whatever name he came up with at the time). At least it sounded like the bar was a place Daze refrained from turning into a crater.

"Your home, huh?" He looked around and resumed frowning. "I wonder how long it'll be until someone tries taking it." He bitterly remarked.

Daze
"They been tryin' all my life. Been fightin' 'em off one by one," Daze said, holding his fist up... not to make an example, but to examine it.

It was as if it dawned on him that he's been fighting for a long time. Scars ran up and down both his hands, arms and torso. He's taken a lot of hits. He's given a lot more. He's caused harm to so many who tried to take what was his.

His Home.

"Yeah. Daze's a nuisance. He's been protecting my little bar for the better part of a decade now," Bruce admitted with a smile.

"What brings you out here Lurch?"

"It's, Jack, actually," He tried speaking up.

Did it even matter to him anymore? Jack was just a name he had picked because no one was around to give him a name. He chose it from a story told to him about hope and change and courage. But now he just felt like a fool who dared to dream and the reminder that his name was just something he gave himself only made it seem like he really was nothing and nobody.

"I'm here because it's just where I stopped walking," He offered Daze a simple answer. "And you can call me whatever the hell you want. Lurch is fine." He managed to add.

Daze
"Sorry. Jack. I... I can try, but no promises," daze admitted. "Rememberin' is hard for me. All that hazy grey stuff foggin' me up and whatnot," Daze laughed, waving his hand at the new guy working the bar to draw him in close.

The new guy leaned in real close to Daze.

"Fireball. Whiskey. Shots. Thank You." Daze said, quite rudely to the new guy.

He had to break him in. Not to mention Daze wasn't in the best of moods. He had a visit from Angeles the other day.

They... mourned. Among other things. Kamrun visited before that. Back when times were happier. His life took a major roller coaster. He wasn't used to it. Losing someone he liked. She wasn't like how the others were. She was more like one of the bros. Never got in her graces like that. Never tried. Well. He tried, but not all that hard. He got the signals early on.

"Thanks," Daze said, more politely when he got his shot, before downing it quickly. "So, Lur--... Jack," Daze corrected himself. "You half-ass answered me. Why are you wonderin' around in my Desert?" Daze asked, calmly. With a hint of curiosity.

"It's like I said, I just stopped here. I don't really know how I found this place. I just kept walking and ended up here." He said.

"If I'm troubling you, I can leave." He offered. "I didn't mean to trespass, honest." He admitted.

His troubles, Jack had decided, were his own and he didn't need to go shifting them around onto others.

Daze
Daze knew the answer to the question. Jack was just playing around and not giving him what Daze wanted to hear. He needed to talk about it. More specifically... he needed to talk with Daze about it. Jack wasn't the only one who lost that day. Everyone did. Jack just got hurt on a more personal level than the rest.

They had something in common and Daze was trying to bring that out. So they could heal together.

"Tch. So polite. You're in the wrong part of the world for manners like that Lurc.. Jack," Daze said, taking another shot. "You know what I mean. What made you start your walk?"

"I've had people tell me," He began. "You're too nice, Jack. You're weak, Jack. You're a coward, Jack. You're a fool, Jack. You're useless, Jack. You should be dead, Jack." He sighed and shook his head.

"I get it wherever I go and they might just be right about me." He admitted. "I wasn't strong enough. I thought I was, I honestly did, but everything I tried just made it worse. And what's done is done and I have to live with it and my weakness and my cowardice and my foolishness. But I'm not going to drag anyone else down with me.

"You're talking to a dead man, Daze. And you're better off not knowing me at all."

"I feel ya Jack. I tried. Trust me I did. I dug deep. Deeper than I've ever dug before. Couldn't find an answer. I couldn't do anything to reverse it," Daze admitted.

He took another shot, slamming the shot glass on the table pretty hard.

"But aren't we all dead? Just some of us won't stop pretendin' long, so it makes us feel alive. Just one after another, marchin' to the same beat. Fuck that man," Daze rambled, not really knowing where he was going. He just had a lot of emotions and Jack was helping him sort it. Just like Angeles did the other day.

"You know what I like about you though," Daze said, turning to Jack and pointing at him. "You know what you want and you're honest about your mistakes. Takes a lot of balls to own that. Most people hide and cover it up," he went on, letting out a deep sigh.

"So in the end, Jack, knowin' you would do me just fine. I'm a dead man too."

Jack's eyes widened and his mouth hung open for a moment when Daze told him that he had known about what had happened. He brought his hand up to his mouth to take a drink only to realize he had forgotten to pick up his actual glass. He glanced at his empty hand for a moment then set it upon the bar counter beside his glass.

"You seem to know more about me than I realized," He admitted. "Someone has to be honest with themselves and others even if it isn't easy. But if being honest and humble can make it so someone can go home and live just a little bit longer then I'll eat all the humble pie I can to make it happen. It just didn't work out that way for Astraea," He admitted sadly.

Since that was out in the open, Jack decided to share a little more about her.

"It wasn't supposed to be like this...She wasn't like us, Daze. She was made to look like us and sound like us, but she wasn't anything like that at all. And then she was changed into something different. Something that could live like us and act like us, but it was just too much for her. She couldn't control it...not on her own. All the sensations must have been like a drug overload for her and it almost killed her. So I did something about it because she loved me and I loved her. I forced the most toxic part of her out in the open and I used this."

He said while drawing the sword from his back.

"To trap it and keep it from destroying her. And it almost worked. We were going to be happy together and I was going to keep the bad part of her in check, but I just couldn't...not on my own. I felt it." He paused for a moment, returned the weapon to its container, and drank his water before continuing.

"I know more now than I was ever supposed to and what I felt isn't something anyone should feel.

"Demons are nothing like us,"
He went on. "Demons don't hurt like people hurt. When they feel pain, they want more and more and more. And they will do anything to make us suffer. They are addicted to our pain and they will do anything to make us hurt. And the whole deal we made with the demon lords is probably going to end badly for Earth, but that is beside the point.

"The evil I took from her wanted me in pain and to inflict pain and promised that if I let it out, it would give me power in exchange for control. I fought it and fought it and I kept resisting the urge to use it to force my hand and strike down anyone I did not agree with. But then Tao attacked Haven Port and he hurt her badly and that's when I finally snapped."
His words kept flowing out after that as though Daze had managed to open the floodgates to the man's soul and mind.

"My weakness nearly cost me the town I helped build and I knew I wasn't strong enough on my own to endure. So, I tried making a deal with another demon to gain control over it, but I was tricked into selling my soul...literally. All my memories, all my joy, and all my pain became the property of a demon. In return, she promised that I wouldn't lose my mind to the evil I had trapped.

"I told Astraea what had happened and she did not take it well as you can imagine. She demanded we take care of it as quickly as possible. I was forced to compromise on having the sword broken and the evil released from it. It was supposed to eliminate the contract between me and the demon and it did...

"...But the evil that was freed from the sword killed her and ate her."
He began to raise his voice at the memory of it all; he normally maintained himself, but hurting and destroying the person he loved crossed a line that nothing in any universe should have ever crossed. His body visibly trembled and his faced darkened into one of absolute rage.

"It ate her and I could do nothing!"

Daze
It was a lot to take in. Too much for Daze. His mind simply couldn't focus on it. But he could feel it. His heart followed. Every swing of emotion that Jack displayed, Daze felt too. He could feel his pain and feel his experience. What Daze did pay attention to was the Demon bit. He was there, in Demon World, with all of them after all. He saw what they could do.

Hell, he had been enhanced by Leviathan himself.

"So. This Demon thing... which one did it?" Daze asked, turning to face Jack. "Which one of them killed Red?" Daze demanded, eyes lit ablaze with a firey passion.

Jack needed a moment to collected himself and it would take more than a glass of water to do it. "beer" He managed just above a whisper.

"Excuse me?" The new guy asked when he realized Jack had addressed him.

"I would like...a beer...please." Jack spoke very slowly and clearly, measuring his words so he did not end up breaking something; last thing he wanted was a fight between him, the village, and Daze.

He received a tall pitcher filled with frothy amber-colored beer and a drinking glass also filled to the brim. Jack drained the glass and filled it up again from the pitcher. He drained that as well, leaving him with an empty glass and a two-thirds full pitcher. "Thank you." He said.

"It isn't that simple. It wasn't something we could fight. It was just evil. I don't know how else to describe it, but that's what it was." He tried explaining. "Evil." He repeated while looking at his empty glass.

"But there is something out there that looks like Astraea...It even sounds like Astraea, but it isn't Astraea...The evil that ate her took her form and is out in the world doing who knows what. Angeles may have already killed it. She was chasing it last I saw her, but, if not, then it's still around and it's going to want to hurt and destroy everything it can, including the people Astraea loved.

In other words, Daze...There's probably a monster on the loose that wants us all dead."

"So... the thing that killed Red took her face?" Daze said, looking away from Jack and at the bar table itself.

He bit at his lower lip, a bit flustered. He wasn't sure he could do it. Could he fight something that looked and sounded like Red? Was it his place? No. It wasn't. This was Angeles and Jacks' fight. The best he could do is help them in any way he could. Taking out this new demon would not provide a catharsis for them. But it walking around was an insult to the woman they loved.

"That's fucked."

Jack fell silent for some long minutes. Seeming not to want to speak anymore about it. He had not arrived her for any real purpose in mind, but, since he showed up, he decided to indulge in some drinks and leave behind the token of his affection all in one go.

"I stopped Angeles from killing it right away." He confessed.

"Whatever it is, it's alive. And I can't stand idly by when a life is at stake. It's the promise I made. This world is in a bad state and, as we speak, somewhere someone is probably finding the person or people they love dead.

"I made a decision. I decided to try stopping it, all of it. I won't kill and I can't let others kill. I made that oath because someone has to try and say, No More! to all of it. No more killing. Let's try something else...And I know that's why she loved me. Astraea loved me because I dared to hope and to dream."
He began crying all over the bar counter, tears spilled onto it beside the coaster.

"I know what I have to do." He sobbed. "Even if I can't be strong for her anymore." He said as he rose from his seat. "I'll continue being the man she loved. She didn't see a fool, a coward, or a weakling when she gave me her love. She saw Jack Trader, the man who was worth everything including her life. And I won't let her sacrifice go in vain." He declared.

"Excuse me, Daze." He said, standing up. "It's time I got back to living my life for me, for the world, and for her. For I know who I am. I am Jack Trader and as long as I live, Astraea will never die." He walked toward the door and waved a farewell to the odd, insane, and, somehow, insightful sorcerer who Jack could consider an ally, if not a friend.

Daze
Daze let Jack speak. It was what he needed. Jack wasn't here to have a real conversation. He needed to reaffirm what he already knew. At least that's how Daze saw it. Daze felt Jack needed someone to talk at, not with. Someone to bounce his thoughts off of and make sure he wasn't insane. Maybe he just needed to hear the words said aloud to reignite his conviction. Regardless, it could have been anyone other than Roots or Angeles. Daze just happened to be at the right place and time.

Daze smiled as Jack left, returning to his drinks. Trying to remember the good days. But he failed. He couldn't.

So he drank. So that better days would come sooner.
