Questing Guide
Hunting:

Hunting is one of the ways to make Zenny, the global currency in the majority of the regions save for Berk. Zenny is used to purchase weapons, supplies, and armor from the various smithies and merchants in hub towns.

To be eligible to hunt, you first need to join the Hunter's Guild. At that point, you will be assigned a Hunter Rank (HR) that allows you to undertake certain quests starting at HR 1. There is a goal to reach with the number of non-gather quests you undertake at a certain level, 10 HR 1 quests will move you up to HR 2, at which point you will have enough Zenny for basic supplies, armor, and weapons- as well as the materials to forge them.

Certain Event Quests will reward you with special items for event-exclusive materials. Arena quests will also have similar rewards.

You may only be knocked out a total three times, this also means that if three of your teammates faint you will fail the quest. The maximum number of people on a hunt is four. Every time someone is knocked out the reward is reduced until it hits 0, and you fail the quest.
Gathering:

Gathering Quests are usually the Paw Pass Ticket quests and Gather X amount of <item> quests. These quests have certain completion requirements but give you time to gather resources you would otherwise half to buy, or hunt monsters freely in the rare case of an unstable environment modifier on the quest contract.
Capture:

Capture missions are a lot like hunting missions, but only require you to sedate the monster. Killing the monster results in failing the quest, and as such you will not obtain any Zenny or Rewards.

During a quest, you will encounter one or more monsters. Please be prepared! To undertake a quest, please seek out the Guild Gal in any of the hub towns!

Free Hunt Mode
Free hunt mode allows you to go out and hunt in a region, the available monster is different on different days depending on the region! Usually, talking to the Guild Gal about free hunts will allow you to know what monster is available that day, and sometimes why; such as breeding season for Ludroth or Rathian, which may help you figure out if it's a good day to go out! Unlike quests, there is no KO limit.
