A'miri had been going over his schedule he was drawing up for the Weyrlings when Achilleth alerted him to the hatching flit egg he had gotten not long ago. Straightening up his desk real quick he left the schedule on his desk and headed for his Weyr, making a stop in the kitchens for some pieces of meat for the new baby. Hurrying with his plate of scraps, A'miri ignored everyone he went by in his haste. He didn't want to miss a thing, he wondered if the flits hatching would be simular to his special day with Achilleth. Once he got to his Weyr he hurried up to where Achilleth was lounging on his couch with the egg between his massive front legs. Hey there fella, how close do you think it is to hatching? Very soon amirimine, I am glad you made it in time. So am I Achilleth A'miri answered as he gave his big bronze a loving pat along his long soft neck. The egg gave a mighty lurch and the shells top blew off, leaving the tiny green sitting in the bottom half, like stew in a bowl. She offered no sound the second she stumbled out of her shell before doing her best to maul what had once been her only protection from the world. She did a good job bitting lots of pieces off her egg before she noticed that A'miri, the one with the food. She went for his fingers, determined to get what was hers by right. "Ouch, you little nipping thing you!" A'miri said as he finally got his finger out of the hungry maw and got a piece of meat in there instead. It took several tries, and even then he wasn't sure if she wasn't biting him just to bite him. It was never a bit bite, just a nip. She nipped everything, from Achilleth's claw, to A'miri's nose before settling down in his lap to stare at him a bit. "I think I'll call you Little Nipper, you do that alot little girl." A'miri spoke softly and with encouragement. "What do you think about that, Little Nipper? Like your name?" He asked as he softly rubbed tiny eye ridges on the newly hatched leave colored green flit. "Look here, you have lighter spots of green all over, like the sunlight dappling the new spring leaves. I welcome you to our home with Achilleth and myself, Little Nipper. You are very well met." A'miri spoke quietly to the pretty little thing. As if in answer to his question, Little Nipper did just that, she nipped his finger much more gently this time, then curled her tail around his arm and went to sleep. Laughing, A'miri took the time to look her over much more closely. His first assesment of her coloring was truer then he thought. As she dried the color turned a little lighter. She really was a soft spring green, with almost white spots here and there. Almost dappled in color. I like her mine. She will keep us both on our toes I think. Do you think she will be ok? Achilleth asked as he lowered he huge face down to give the Little Nipper a nuzzle. I hope so Achilleth. I'm rather fond of her even this soon. Time will only tell. He answered truthfully. He really hoped she would be healthy. |
