The scene opens in Waco, Texas which is centrally located between Houston, Dallas and Austin. The camera is located at the Waco Retirement Community for assisted living. The building is brick but is faded badly by the hot Texas sun. Sitting on top of the five stories building in Raven and he is leaning up against a huge air conditioning unit. Raven is wearing black combat boots, blue cut off jean shorts, and a black Raven’s Clockwork Orange House of Fun t-shirt. Raven’s hair is hanging down in front of his face and is wet with sweat from the one hundred plus degree heat. He whips the sweat off his brow and brushes his hair back behind his ears as he begins to speak. Raven: “Why am I sitting on top of a retirement center you might ask yourself? Well trust me it isn’t because I am thinking of retiring again. Most certainly not, but I am here because I am picking up Terry Funk for my match tonight. You see I may be middle aged but this guy is probably a great grandfather by now. He has to be almost sixty years old. He was the NWA World champion in 72 I believe…I was still in grade school then. Funker, how many times have you retired and came back now ten? You just need to give it up because I know you don’t need the money…do you think your body enjoys the abuse? For one thing you’re very lucky that our match is just a standard one on one encounter and not a hardcore match because I would really punish you then. The fact does remain Terry you are one tough old son of a bitch but when is enough…enough? We have a great history of matches against each other Terry. I even dropped my ECW world title to you at the first ECW pay per view Barely Legal. I didn’t want to do it nor did I think you deserved the title but what did I care…I was going to make a shit load of money in WCW. The fact still remains that Paul Heyman wanted you to be the world champion and it makes me sick. He would always talk about Terry Funk and how great you were for business. How the people in ECW loved the Funker…you were a crowd favorite. I say fuck that! You didn’t deserve that spot Terry…you didn’t earn it in ECW. I busted my ass…I made over half the story lines. I went to every fucking meeting that company had and came up with even your damn feuds and that was the respect I got? I had one of the greatest and longest running feuds in wrestling history…I made Tommy Dreamer and the Sandman popular. I carried them to stardom when you just sat at home in Amarillo and would fly to Philly only if you had a match. Now I am not saying you didn’t’ earn respect in this business Terry…I would never say that about you. You were an ambassador for the sport and one of the original hardcore wrestlers. I am just saying in ECW you calm to be a great but you were just handed your spot. I don’t want that to be the case in the EBWF. I don’t like Wes but I don’t think he would push some old has been straight to the top. He is way to smart a business man for that. I hope he is just bringing you in for a few matches and then he dumps your old ass on a street corner. You see Funk I have a huge reputation in this company…but when I came back I was just another guy. I earned my way back to the top of this company, last month I won the Intercontinental Championship. I didn’t come back and say he Wes I’m in the Hall of Fame here…and a nine time world champ so give me a title shot. I would never do that because I don’t blame the fame card for matches. I may be a little cocky…hell I even call myself the chosen one of select occasion but I earned that respect here. So if I hear you acting like a Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan…Terry I will personally take you out of commission. I know you have health problems Terry and I could seriously cripple you if I wanted to. Do you think your neck can handle my Evenflow DDT? Terry your back is as mangled as a train wreck…and your knees went bad back in the mid eighties I believe. You’re a fucking fossil Terry and I want to bury you in a location where you will never be found again by any wrestling promoter. I am just trying to do you a favor Terry because you only make yourself look bad. Seriously…do you really think you can compete with this new style of wrestling? The only guys you can match up with anymore are the older guys. You could have a match with the Undertaker, Kane…Foley but that’s about it. If you had a match with a young high flyer or even a technician it would look like shit. You’re so slow and your skills have depreciated to pretty much nothing that you would get booed out of the arena. This really is a shame Terry…it is a shame to have to see you like this because I remember how good you once were. Obviously you were great Terry. Back in the seventies and the early to mid eighties they didn’t put the NWA world title on anybody. You had to earn it. You had to be able to sell out arenas not just in Texas but all over the United States…and you did that. The time is now Terry and you time has long been over. So I say Funk U Terry. I am going to do the wrestling world and your family a big favor and put you permanently out of the sport after tonight. So tell your wife that you’re coming home for good…or I can drop you off right here at the old folk’s home where you belong. Tonight finally Terry Funk I get my redemption. I will get my win over you on national television. To bad you will only be a shell of your former self but a win is a win and it may heal my pain. Quote the Raven…NEVERMORE!” The scene ends with Raven standing up from his seated position up against the air conditioning unit. He raises his arms out into the crucifix position and holds the pose for ten seconds. Raven then walks to the edge of the building and stands over looking the side. You can see the outline of the rural town from this height of fifty feet in the air. There aren’t many big buildings just a quit town that had a huge explosion years ago that was shocking news and was on every major network in the country and put this town on the map. You can barely see the Baylor University campus from where Raven is standing where there was also a basketball player murdered by his fellow teammates a few years ago. Tonight on Smackdown there will also be a big news event for this little town the end of Terry Funk’s wrestling career. Raven stares off into the distance as the screen fades to black. |
