OOC: A little something Ellie and I wrote :) Note this is a non-televised scene, so unless you were the curious texter or some other weird stalker, you didn't see it. Backstage at the Cumberland County Civic Center, Chris Jericho had just arrived. He was wearing a pair of jeans and the new Fed Ex t-shirt, which had the slogan "Fed Ex: Delivering pain and suffering since April 13th, 2009" printed across the front. As he made his way to his locker room, he saw Maria sitting, her left hand bandaged from the injury she had received earlier that week. Jericho smiled, walked over, and touched her on the shoulder. Chris Jericho: Hey honey. How are you doing? Maria looked up at Chris smiling slightly at the man who had made her laugh numerous times in the span of a couple of days, but remembering what Joanie had talked to her about the night before about toning it down with Chris she simply nodded. Maria: Fine thanks. Though he hadn't known Maria all that long, Jericho noticed the change in Maria's approach to him. He'd never given much thought to her flirtatiousness; being happily married and very much in love with Jess, no woman, not even one as beautiful of Maria, could tempt him. And having seen the way she was with the other men in the EBWF that she talked to, he was fairly certain she didn't have a thing for him. He had always treated their "flirting" as a humorous thing, and not for a second had he thought of Maria as anything other than a friend and colleague. He'd always assumed the feeling was mutual, so couldn't help but wonder what had brought about this change in her attitude. Chris Jericho: Are you sure? You don't seem okay. Anything I can do to help? She looked up at him and shook her head smiling. Maria: Just trying to take some advice on board from a friend. Remembering some of Joanie Helmsley's Twitter posts over the last few days, Jericho began to understand what had come over Maria, and tried to approach the topic gently. The last thing he wanted to do was make her "week from Hell" even worse, but nor did he want Joanie's concerns to affect a friendship which, although relatively new, Jericho valued highly. We smiled warmly, attempting to make light of the situation. Chris Jericho: Would that advice have come from the Executive Vice President of Programming, by any chance? Maria smiled. Maria: How did you know? Chris Jericho: I've known Joanie a long time, and I've spent waaaay too much time on Twitter the last few days. Can we talk about whatever she's said to you, please? You have my word I won't approach her about it, I'd just like to sort things out between you and me. I'd hate for our friendship to become less fun; comedy is all I have. Maria smiles and pats the spot beside her. Maria: It may take a while, have you got the time? Jericho laughed, and looked at his watch jokingly. Chris Jericho: Given that Aggression doesn't start for another few hours, and I'm not on ’til the end of the show, I'm sure I can fit you in. He sat down on the seat beside Maria. Chris Jericho: So, what's up? Maria started to tell him about her conversation, leaving out certain parts which she felt would be better to stay private between her and Joanie. She told him about how Joanie felt she was being promiscuous and how she didn't realise that she was flirting so much with him and that she would never dream of hurting Jess or his family. She told him how she felt she could trust him and much more... Maria: Joanie says I need a support system, and some friends. I would really like if you were one of them. Jericho sat in silence for a minute, absorbing what Maria had said and trying to figure out how best to respond. More than anything he wanted to put his arm around her, the way a big brother might hug his younger sister. However, given the nature of her (and Joanie's) concerns, he decided now was not the time for such action. Chris Jericho: Hun, I've not for one second been worried by your flirting and neither has my wife. When I'm on the road, Jess and I talk every day, often more than once. She has Twitter too, so she's seen everything that's been written by you and me. She asked about you once, I told her you were a fun friend that makes me smile, and she seemed happy with that. I'd be honored to be part of your support system, and don't for one second think that Jess won't be okay with that. You'll get to meet her at Michael's birthday. Maria smiles happily and wipes at her eyes. Maria: Thanks it means a lot to me, you've sort of been the funny, annoying big brother that I've always wanted you know. Jericho responded with mock indignance. Chris Jericho: You think I'm annoying? Maria smiled and bumped his shoulder playfully. Maria: Good annoying. Chris Jericho: Okay, I'll let you off. He winked at her light-heartedly. Chris Jericho: So besides having to convince Joanie that our friendship is purely platonic, how are you dealing with the rest of the drama you've had going on this week? She looked away and wiped away the tears that seemed to be falling continuously. Maria: It's been hard you know, I'm still trying to come to terms with everything. Chris Jericho: Yeah, I've been there. But Joanie was right you know, you need a support system. Don't keep this bottled up, cause that'll only make it worse. There are people you can talk to... me, Joanie, and I'm sure there are others. You've got my cell, right? You can call or text me any time. Maria: Yeah, I just don't want to butt into you and Jess' time you know, you’re a family. Chris Jericho: Yeah, I understand. But Jess has girl friends, so I think I'm allowed to have them too. Seriously, have a talk with her when we're all in Texas. She really is wonderful; she'll ease any concerns you might have, and you'll probably find she can be part of your support system too. She smiled at him and hugged him. Maria: You’re a good guy you know that. Better than some of the ones I've known or know. Jericho smiled, and hugged her back. Chris Jericho: Yeah... I like to think I'm pretty awesome. She rolled her eyes and hit him playfully. Maria: How does Jess deal with your ego, I know I would probably go insane living with you and your ego. She laughed. Jericho laughed with her. Chris Jericho: She has to bring me down to Earth every now and again, but in a weird way I think she finds my confidence endearing. Plus she knows most of the time I'm just goofing around anyway, but don't tell anyone... I need to keep up appearances, you know? She smiled at him in a sisterly sort of way. Her step-brother had never really been there for her, just like the rest of her step-family. She hugged him again not wanting to let go. She had never expected to find so many caring, considerate people when she came to the EBWF. So far she had been proven wrong, and maybe, just maybe, they could help her become herself again. ...Watching all this from afar was a curious wrestling fan. As Jericho and Maria hugged tightly, the fan got out his cellphone and sent a text message. A few hours later, the following article appeared on PWInsider.com: What’s going on with Jericho and Maria? By Dan Taylor on Thursday, July 16th, 2009 at 10:17 PM EST Word reached PWInsider.com earlier tonight a few hours before tonight’s EBWF Aggression show, superstars Chris Jericho and Maria Kanellis were seen being affectionate with each other backstage. This comes just two days after Joanie “Chyna” Helmsley, the company’s Executive Vice President of Programming, responded to some flirtatious comments between Jericho and Maria on Twitter by telling Jericho “I don’t like what you seem to be getting at”. Comments included Maria telling Jericho: “I’ll have to find you when I get back for my hug. You give good hugs” and Jericho asking Maria: “If I FedExed you some flowers, would that win you over?” Chris Jericho married his wife, Jessica Lee Lockhart, on Sunday, July 30th, 2000. The couple divorced in June 2005, but they remarried in February the next year. They have three children – Ash Edward Jericho, born September 24th, 2003, and twin girls Cheyenne Lee and Sierra Loretta Jericho, born July 18th, 2006 (born prematurely, at the 27 week mark). Their separation in 2005 is not the only time Chris and Jessica have had problems; Jericho took a leave of absence in April of this year, due to what was widely believed to have been a family dispute. Of course, Maria hardly has a clean slate when it comes to married men; she recently had a relationship with Kevin Nash, who turned 50 earlier this month. Nash is currently undergoing divorce proceedings with his second wife, Tammy. There is speculation that Nash’s recent disappearance is linked to his split from Maria. |
