OOC: It must be a day for character development and romance, lol. Ellie and I wrote this over the weekend; it takes place directly after Warfare.

“In the year of our Lord 1314, patriots of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, charged the fields at Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets. They fought like Scotsmen. And won their freedom.”

The movie had just finished and Maria couldn't stop giggling. She thought to herself, “I mean Braveheart; what mother would be mean enough to call her son Braveheart?!” She smiled at the thought and shook her head, and William Wallace’s accent was stronger than Drew's which also made her laugh, but overall it was quite a good movie. Drew couldn't help but laugh at the fact Maria seemed convinced that William Wallace's name was actually Braveheart. He found it quite cute, and was pleased with how much it amused her. More than anything, though, he was pleased with the pleasantness that had been her company.

Drew McIntyre: So what did you think?

Maria: That was really good. I really enjoyed it! Thanks for showing it to me

Drew smiled.

Drew McIntyre: It was my pleasure. How does it compare to G.I. Joe then?

Maria bit her lip and laughed.

Maria: No competition there. G.I. Joe all the way.

Drew shook his head.

Drew McIntyre: Gah! Scottish heroes are far superior to American ones... we've been defending our country for far longer.

Maria shook her head smiling. He really stood up for his Scottish background and she really admired him for it.

Maria: Uh-huh.

She smiled. Drew reached over to his right and took a handful of the popcorn they had been eating during the movie. He then offered it to Maria. Maria took a couple of pieces and popped one into her mouth softly chewing it. Drew grinned as an idea formed in his mind. He grabbed another handful of the popcorn and threw it at Maria. Maria scrunched up her nose and threw it back at him.

Drew McIntyre: Sorry... couldn't resist.

Maria smirked and threw another piece at him, then another and then another. As she threw the popcorn, Drew reached out and grabbed her right arm with his left. He then picked up the popcorn that was left, and tipped it over her head, laughing childishly as he did so. Maria pouted.

Maria: No fair!

As Maria pouted, Drew tried to suppress a smile. He then put on his best puppy dog expression and put his arm around her.

Drew McIntyre: Sorry darling.

Maria rolled her eyes and playfully pushed him away crossing her arms. Drew responded with a sulk of his own... mimicking Maria, he crossed his own arms and gave her a little pout. Maria giggled quietly and brushed the popcorn from her hair. Drew smiled, and did the same, albeit without the girlish laughter.

Drew McIntyre: Remind me how old we are again?

Maria: Sixteen.

She laughed.

Drew McIntyre: If only... no, scratch that. If we were still sixteen, I'd be living with my parents. I think I prefer being an adult, and having the freedom to do whatever I fancy.

Maria: Yeah, freedom sounds much better, even though I still do miss my dad at the odd times it's good to just be able to do whatever you want.

Drew McIntyre: Yeah. Did you go and see him over the weekend?

Maria: Yeah, he's getting better thankfully.

Drew McIntyre: That's good. So, if you don't mind me asking... what happened with your mum?

Maria looked down at her hands fiddling about with one of the rings on her finger.

Maria: ...oh. Ummm... mum... well my mum died from breast cancer when I was 8 sooo... umm... yeah.

She hadn't talked to anyone about her mum's death before, let alone a guy. Kevin had never asked only Joanie had, and Maria hadn't really elaborated on the fact. Drew could see how much it pained Maria to discuss this, and felt guilty for asking. He moved closer to her, and put his arm around her again - this time, with much more care and affection than when they'd been fooling around with the popcorn.

Drew McIntyre: I'm sorry sweetheart. We don't have to talk about that - I shouldn't have asked.

Maria: No it's okay...it's just I haven't actually told anyone about my mum, no-one’s really asked before. You just caught me off guard don't worry.

She smiled sadly twisting the ring around on her finger. With his free arm, Drew reached over and grabbed her hand.

Drew McIntyre: Well, we'll talk about it when you’re ready. If you want to, of course.

He smiled at her warmly. Maria turned her head up towards him smiling slightly she kissed his cheek and squeezed his hand gently.

Maria: Thank you for understanding.

Drew McIntyre: Don't worry about it.

He kissed her on the forehead, just as he had twice after Aggression. This was one of his mannerisms - a way of being affectionate without "trying it on" or whatever. She smiled gently and fiddled with his fingers. She hadn't really been this close to a guy since....Kevin, yet she hasn't been this way with him. Drew held Maria a little closer, squeezing her waist gently. He wanted to speak but didn't know what to say. Not that it mattered; the silence was pleasant rather than awkward.

Maria: Thank you.

She whispered, she didn't know who it was directed to, but she just felt she needed to say it. Life hasn't been this perfect for a while and she wanted it, needed it to stay this way. She didn't want to go back to the way she was when she started. Sighing gently she let her head find its place on Drew's shoulder. Her head seemed to fit into Drew's shoulder flawlessly - almost as if it was meant to be there. It felt nice, Drew thought. He moved his own head moved towards hers, the part of his face between his jaw and his cheek resting on top of her head. He moved the arm that had been around her waist upwards, and began to run his fingers through her hair softly. Again, this felt natural to him. Maybe this was the way it was supposed to be, Maria thought; she hadn't really felt this close to a guy before.

Somewhat seamlessly, Maria and Drew seemed to change positions. As Drew looked down at Maria, he noticed her eyes were closed, and her lips were pursed beautifully. He was torn between temptation and anxiety; he knew what he wanted to do, but he was positively terrified to do it. However, instinct took over, and he moved his lips towards Maria's. He kissed her softly, just for a second, and waited to see how she would respond. Maria sighed gently at the feel off his lips against hers, it was a simple kiss yet it said everything. Slowly she fluttered open her eyes and found herself looking into his.

Drew McIntyre: Was it too early for me to do that?

She shook her head. She was too scared to let herself speak in case she suggested something, or said something really embarrassing. Drew pulled her close to him again and gave her another gentle peck on the lips.

Drew McIntyre: If I'm being honest, I've wanted to do that since we met. It's just... I don't know. Everything's going so well between us that it scared me.

Maria smiled.

Maria: Don't worry; it scared me too.

She replied honestly.

Drew McIntyre: Okay... so where do we take it from here?

Maria leaned up and gently pecked his lips.

Maria: Wherever you want. I trust you.

And she meant it too.

Drew McIntyre: Well, I know what I want... I'm looking at her.

He took a moment to smile at her sweetly, and then continued speaking.

Drew McIntyre: I do think we should take things slowly though... If we rush into anything, it could end badly, and I don't want that.

Maria blushed and smiled slightly.

Maria: I want this one to be right; I don't want to fall off the edge again.

Drew McIntyre: It sounds like we want the same thing. So, should we keep doing what we're doing? Just hanging out, and having fun and... just see where it leads?

Maria nodded her head and looked up at him, smiling.

Maria: I would like that.

She slowly reached up her hand and tucked a piece of Drew’s long brown hair behind his ear. He kissed her again, this time for a little longer. Maria smiled against his lips letting her hand drop and rest in her lap, while she devoted her attention to him. As she nestled her head into his shoulder again, he held her tightly, like he didn't want to let her go. They stayed like this for a while, simply enjoying one another's company. Every now and again, Maria would place quick gentle kisses along Drew’s jaw or neck, and all too often she stared at him, hoping she wouldn't get caught.

As the time passed, eventually they both fell asleep. And there they lay in Drew's bed, innocently but lovingly, setting out on a road that they both hoped would lead to a beautiful destination.
