The scene opens inside the American Dragon Dojo with Bryan Danielson on the mat grappling with one of his students, as several others watch on from the sidelines. The student grappling with Danielson is much bigger in both height and weight and seems to have the American Dragon in a bad position, stuck underneath him with only half guard applied. As the big man attempts to work his way into full mount, Danielson takes control of one of his student’s left arm and cranks it back with a kimura. The armlock is not tight enough to make his student tap but it is enough to force a sweep, that ends with Danielson on top in side control. Bryan quickly uses his position and control of his student’s wrist to place in it behind the student’s head, Danielson then seamlessly transitions into an arm triangle choke and his student taps. Danielson quickly releases the hold and helps his student to his feet, who then takes his place sitting with the rest of the students as Danielson speaks.

Bryan Danielson: “As you can all see there Brent is fives inches taller and out weighs me by almost fifty pounds but when it comes to competiting hold for hold on the mat, skill beats sizes almost every time. The problems start to occur when a guy that big has a skill set that matches or exceeds your own. Now with that said, Brent, you had me worried there for a second, great job. You were able to take me down and pass into half guard, if you hadn't gave up your arm, it very well could have been me doing the tapping”

Women of Screen: “Bryan, I hate to interupt but I have some very important news for you.”

Danielson wipes the sweat from his brow and turns to see his assistant Jessica standing just beyond the mats. He nods his head to her in acknowledgement and then turns back to his students.

Bryan Danielson: “Alright guys while I take a minute to speak with Jess, l want you all to take a quick break. Everybody gets some water, catch your breath and get focused, cause when I come back we will be practicing takedowns and takedown defense.”

Danielson claps his hands together and his students begin to disperse. He grabs his towel from the mat and begins to wipe himself off as he heads towards his assistant. As soon as he is with in arms length, she hands him a fresh bottle of water. He flashs a big smile, throws the towel over his shoulder and starts to drinking the water as she speaks.

Jessica: “Sorry to bother you Bryan, I know how much you hate interuptions during training sessions but I just got off the phone with someone from the EBWF. They wanted me to tell you, to be in East Lansing, Michigan this Thursday for Aggression. They have scheduled your debut match and you have been booked to wrestler against Elijah Burke.”

Bryan Danielson: “Elijah Burke, really? I knew there wasn’t going to be any easy match ups when I signed my contract but I didn’t think I would be thrown in there with the X-Division Champion right off the bat either.”

Jessica: "Have you ever wrestled against him before Bryan?"

Bryan Danielson: "No, this will be our first meeting but I have known quite a few people who have faced him. From what I have seen and heard, he is a very well rounded opponent and should give me a hell of a fight. Which is just the sort of debut I need. Winning is always good, beating someone with credibility is even better but doing both in spectacular fashion can make you career in one night. I got to win this one Jess and win it, in a big way."

Jessica: “I am sure you will, Bryan. I was also told to inform you that someone from the company, I believe a Mr. Michael Cole, would be stopping by later today with a camera crew to interview you for the match.”

Bryan Danielson: “Sounds good, just let me know when they arrive and keep them occupied outside with coffee and some of that witty banter of yours. Just buy me enough time to clean up and clear my head.”

Jessica: “You got it boss.”

As Jessica walks off sporting a huge smile, Bryan heads back towards the center of the mat. He takes another opportunity to towel himself off and get some more water, before calling his students back. With a double clap of his hands, they all rush from whatever they where doing and sit in a row on the mat. He places his towel and water bottle on the mat behind him and begins to pace back and forth in front of his students, before he speaks.

Bryan Danielson: “Alright guys slight change in plans, Jessica just informed me that I have match this Thursday Night against Elijah Burke. So our takedown drills will have to wait until I get back. Right now, I need the collective strength of your minds, not your muscles, because I am calling an emergency strategy session. Now, what do we know about Burke?”

Student One: “He was an accomplished amateur boxer, who won almost all of his fights by knock out.”

Bryan Danielson: “Good answer, I am going to have to be very weary of his strikes. Even if he doesn’t had one punch knock out power in his hands, an effective boxing game can usually dictate the range of the fight. We are going to have to work on moving in between the punches, getting him to throw, miss and pay the price for it. No matter how good his boxing is, if I get him on the mat he can't use it. Next?”

Student Two: “He has also shown the ability to use his knees as effective weapons, with his Elijah Express maneuver.”

Bryan Danielson: “The way I see that there are two ways to combat that maneuver, one offensive and the other defensive. Offensively, I can work from the start of the match on taking his legs out. If he can’t walk, he can’t run and if he can’t run, he can’t hit the move. Defensively, I need to have some sort of counter in mind, incase I am unable to take out his legs. We will work on both. Next?”

Student Three: “I don’t seem to be as familiar with him, as some of the other students but I do know that he is X-Division Champion and that means he is going to want to keep the pace quick and hit some high risk maneuvers.”

Bryan Danielson: “Another great point, I am going to have work on slowing this match down and keeping it on the mat. Hopefully he will become frustrated with my methodical pace and make a mistake, when he does I pounce. Alright men, I think we have a game plan. A no frills, ground and pound strategy that will force him to play a game he isn't equiped to play. I control the tempo, I control the range, I control the fight and that means taking him to a place he is not comfortable with and keeping him there until he give me my opportunity. Then Elijah Burke will have three options tap, snap or nap.”

The scene ends as Danielson starts to form his men up in three different groups to work on the areas, that his team mentioned.

Good stuff man!

It got an extra smile out of me because "dojo" reminded me of the episode of Family Guy where Joe gets legs.

THERE'S NO FEAR IN THIS DOJO!
