Between the Ropes: Minsayne in the Membrayne

We at SuplexScoops.com sat down with EIW and former GCW talent, Addison Rayne and Minnie. The two have been through just about everything with each other, from being tag team champions to fighting for the GCW Women's Championship to having a full on triple threat war with a veteran of the industry.

"Welcome you two! Glad you both could make it onto the show! We've got a LOT to talk about, and there's honestly so much you two could go on about I'm sure. Also, congrats on both of you for your monumental rookie careers, and while it's not as big of an accomplishment compared to the rest, this is the first time we've talked with two people at Between the Ropes!"

M- Thank you. The honor is ours.

A- As Minnie said, thank you. It is an honor.

"We might as well start it easy. Where did you two begin? If my research was correct we can all thank the tag team division over at EIW for Minsayne?"

A-I really wanted to get into the tag team scene in EIW so I put out an ad for a partner. Minnie answered the ad and I gained more than just a teammate. I gained a friend.

M- Yeah, I knew John and EIW staff were butting heads so I wanted to affiliate myself with someone or something and fast. That someone just happened to come knocking at my door when I saw it up on one of the bulletin boards at a show. It was really odd and funny, but it pulled me in enough. And then we just took off. We became MUCH better friends than I honestly expected. I found out that she could work in the ring pretty well, too. Our styles just meshed. I don't know how, but I found a really good companion in the industry.

"That's really quite sweet, Minnie."

M - It's true.

"But, in order to stop it from getting too sweet, can I ask about some of the issues Morris had with EIW at the time?"

M- I don't really see what it has to do with this interview. But if you insist, he had problems with most companies after IBW shut down. He wanted me to be cautious.

"And now you'll see where this was going. Some say his problems with the company were what led to you leaving. Rather than hear your thoughts on it, I want to hear what Addison has to say about that fiasco."

A-Well, John does have an influence on Minnie but she is very much her own person. She came to me and expressed some concerns she had about how the company was treating her. I let her know that I was sad to see my teammate and friend go but that I would support her decision. She shouldn't have to stay where she feels like that. I don't blame her for walking and I told my second Papi, sorry, I mean the EIW GM how I felt about his use of Minnie and her talent.

"Well, that's a bit cleared up now. So, you two went from partners in EIW to fighting for a championship within the next month at a different company. What's with that?

M- Truthfully? I think it was one company taking the success from another. EIW was still a bit fresh, but with the big names it had and the television coverage it got all thanks to Advincola's wallet, the big walk-out was relevant enough that it followed Addison and I wherever we went. Of course, with Addison being the champ over at GCW where they really lacked women's talent, it was bound to happen sooner or later, but I think they saw the perfect chance to capitalize on EIW's error. And they did for a bit. I was a bit surprised I got to go over, though. I guess a part of their company's appeal is it's a 'spit in the face to traditional large companies', and so in a way to make the rebels happy to put the belt on me? I'm still not quite sure.

"Speaking of walkouts and GCW-"

M- I'll stop you there. It wasn't some organized strike or anything like that. People left for different reasons. If you want to go hear some of the backstage stuff that went on, I'm sure a million different podcasts have it. You're not going to find it in this interview, though.

"I can't say I don't respect that. Well put, Minnie."

M- As always.

"So, you two come from incredibly different backgrounds, both in terms of wrestling trainers and pre-wrestling life. What do you two attribute to being such a good combo?"

A-I'll answer that. I believe that we balance each other out some. Minnie isn't afraid to take risks and speak her mind. She is bold. She brings out a bit more boldness in me. While I am always trying to bring happiness to people. Every relationship no matter the type, needs balance. And besides, we are both talented ladies in the ring and on the mic.

M- I'd like to add that, in terms of ring-training and the like, we've found ourselves assisting the other in really small, trivial ways. For example, I never learned that you're supposed to wipe your boots before you get in the ring until I started going over some spots at the place where Happy taught. I know John taught me it but it was also Addison who drilled it into my head to always keep the crowd in mind. Every time during one of our practice matches if I didn't address the audience before, during, or after every spot I got a pretty hard chop. It's the small stuff, like that. Addison used to never sell kicking an opponent hurting unless her leg was targeted a lot, but if you go back and watch some of our stuff... like that triple threat with Jade Mystique... you can see her shake off her leg in her walk after hitting a series of kicks to the back. It's the small stuff that we teach each other. John can teach some things better than Happy, and vice versa. John's school is way more focused on rolling around well and establishing who is who, but he can't teach you to go over like Happy can.

"That's pretty interesting. You brought up the triple threat with Jade... What were your minds going into that match?"

M- Honestly? I hated the idea at first. It was supposed to be Addison and I's big, BIG moment. But as soon as I saw the rumors of Jade coming back I knew that she was going to be thrown into the mix, just because there was nobody else who could face her at a big show. She was really just thrown in for the sake of the pop-value, which upset me a bit. Addison and I had been developing our own stories for months, and just getting ready for the big payoff. We were going to leave it ALL out. I think we did, to some extent, but that match would have been better had it been Rayne and I solo. Don't get me wrong, Mystique did fantastic, and after doing the match I have a much different attitude about the situation. She's a great wrestler, and she put some heat into the match and made it desirable when I won thanks to the pre-match assault angle. I just think Addi and I should have had our moment, you know?

A- I have to admit that I was kind of sad when we found out Jade was going to be thrown into our match. Minnie and I had worked so hard to build up to that moment. If it hadn't been for Minnie putting things in perspective for me, I might not have went into that match fully focused. I'm glad she got me focused though. That was my first huge PPV match and who better to give it my all with than one of my best friends? Even if there was someone else in the match. Jade Mystique being part of it, made me step up my game a bit.

"Well, now you're both in EIW once more. Minnie is the tag team champion again, but what are your plans going forward? If you never had the big finale match, will you? What else do you want to do? After all, you girls are young. You're going to be in the industry a loooong time. You'll be able to achieve just about anything you want."

M- Well, we can't spoil too much. But you'll just have to see. I can promise that Addison and I will have a big final chapter. You'll see it coming, too. As for my other plans in EIW, I don't necessarily have any that are specific in terms of companies. I more-so have a list of spots I want to do. I will say though, there is something BIG in the works. HUGE.

A- Without spoiling too much, now that I am focused on EIW as the only company I am competing in, I plan on improving my craft and hopefully getting some gold back around my waist. The most important thing though is using every match as an opportunity to learn from my opponents and improve my in ring and mic skills.

"Well, I've loved having you lovely ladies on the show, and I do hope we can make history again when you're the first duo to come on a second time on the show... But before we go, I'll ask you this. Do you have any last statements to say, not to the viewers, but to each other?"

A-Minnie, no matter what happens in our careers and lives, I hope we stay friends. I have learned so much from you.I am a better wrestler, performer, and person because of you. That said, when our big moment against each other arrives, I am going to win this time!

M- Well, I'm not sure about that last bit, but thank you so much for what you said! You know I say the same to you. You're going to be huge, Addison. You have not only passion for what you do, but compassion for the people you do it with. Never let that die.
