Informal testing is a large part of my data collection as a special education teacher. I check what my students know daily, and compare it to where they were a week ago, a month ago, etc. If I were an ESL teacher I would do the same thing. I like having warm up activities for my kids that are a review of a previously learned skill, and then I introduce a new skill to them slowly. Thanks for the tips on informal assessment! Paige Lee |

I do a lot of background knowledge assessment when I introduce a new topic, just to see where my students are and what they already know about a topic. I also use exit tickets and sometimes entrance tickets to see what is retained. I need to become better at organizing/recording my data. |

In the past as a reading interventionist I have utilized both formal and informal assessments. I think it's important to collect a variety of work throughout the year to help determine how much growth has taken place. |
