Traits & Abilities Traits define your character's... well, character. Traits also tend to have an impact on their abilities. The list of traits in the link below show specific details about each trait, most importantly their point cost. The number of points you have to spend on traits and abilities is equal to how old the character is in years. A 36 year old character could spend 36 points on traits and abilities. Some traits are negative, and therefore cost negative points. In other words if you are 20 years old, but choose a trait that costs -20 points, you now have 40 points to spend, even though you're only 20 years old. After a character is created, they do not gain points as they get older. The only way to lose or gain traits after character creation is through roleplaying. Abilities work the same as traits, costing points to improve. You can increase an ability by one point, by spending one point. Abilities are most important to characters in leadership positions, and are essential if a character ever hopes to rise to greatness. Diplomacy defines a character's tact for matters of state diplomacy and negotiation, as well as their court etiquette and legal expertise. Useful for engaging other characters or political adversaries, particularly in foreign courts. Martial defines a character's tactical awareness, knowledge of military strategies, and ability to lead an army. Useful for military campaigns, during sieges, and on the battlefield. Stewardship defines a character's ability to rule, govern, and administrate effectively. Useful when holding court, enforcing laws, managing subjects, raising armies, etc. Intrigue defines a character's cunning, guile, and knack for mischief, scheming, and politics. Useful for establishing spy networks, blackmailing, plotting assassinations, and uncovering the plots of others. Learning defines a character's overall knowledge, education, and scholarship. Useful for religious functions, medical treatment, and dealing with foreign cultures, religions, and languages. Personal Combat defines a character's personal fighting abilities, and their proficiency with various arms and armors. Useful for dueling, participating in battles, and other dangerous occasions.
