Um, aren't PK and PSI the same thing? Nope! PK stands for Psychokinesis and PSI stands for Psionics. PK is used when describing the manipulation of something as well as the offensive moves (PK Fire, PK Flash, PK Freeze, etc). PSI generally relates to a general psychic control, like absorbing power or using it to block others, where as PK is the pure manipulation of something (PSI ex. include PSI Magnet and PSI Shield). Basically every ability that does not have PK in it's name can have PSI in front of it, but for simplicity's sake you can just say Hypnosis, Paralysis, etc. Okay, but why in EarthBound is every ability listed as PSI? There isn't much of a specific reason as to why, but most people speculate it was either a translation error or a method used to just overall simplify the psychic powers, as opposed to having explain the first question! How do you calculate everything?! How do those formulas even work?! Well, all the formulas are actually exactly how the game itself operates. Usually the formula tries to figure out a percentage. If this happens, you can use a 1d100 on any random dice roller site, and figure out if it fails or succeeds (For example, if its a 50% chance, if you roll 1-50 it will succeed, but a 51-100 will fail). If the formula says (x-y)z +/- 25%, that means you figure out the first part of the equation ((x-y)z), then find 25% of it. Add it to the original number, and then subtract it from the original number. From the subtracted number to the added number is the range of damage that will do. You can then use an integer generator (on random.org for example), to figure out how much damage it will do (so for example, lets say the number you get after (x-y)z is 50. 25% of that is 12.5, so we'll round that up to 13. Therefore, the damage will be somewhere in between 37 and 63.) Edited by Phoenix, Apr 19 2015, 03:45 AM.
