The Clotted Heart Warband![]() "Drink the wine! Stop the heart! Drink the Blood! Toll the seven!" ~War chant of the Clotted Heart It was the foolish actions of the Sanguinary Priest Kain that brought the pox of a Chaos Marine Warband known only as the "Clotted Heart," unto the Imperium of man. During the 36th Millennium, it was Kain who traveled fourth with 6 squads from the Blood Angel's 7th company, to undergo a pilgrimage to find a cure for the dreaded Black Rage, that had plagued their chapter since the very death of their Primarch. Sergeants Raziel, Turel, Rahab, Dumah, Zephon, and Melchiah followed Kain without question, for their Brother was a charismatic and logical Priest. Their search for a cure brought them to the very rim of the Maelstrom where upon they discovered a feral world that contained many alien plants that bore strange fruit that carried unique medicinal qualities. Kain crafted a wine from the 7 fruits he found on the planet, and once drunk in ceremony from a Blood Chalice, they managed to alieve the Black Rage from one of their stricken brothers, however, it was replaced by an aggravated form of the Red Thirst, the chapter's original and constant sickness. This "cured" Brother, known as Dirl, could not sate his red thirst through the usual rituals. It could only be sated by giving into the curse and drinking fresh, human blood. However, if denied the blood he needed to quench his thirst, his body would begin to rot and fall apart. Soon armor and flesh melded, and Dirl became a vessel of the chaos God known as Nurgle. Seeing freedom from the Black Rage as more than a fair price to side with the God of pestilence, Kain and his sergeants swore loyalty to Nurgle, partook in the chaotic wine, and gave into the Red Thirst. Their Warden however, remained true to the emperor and Sanguinius, and left his brothers to return to Baal, and tell The Chapter of Kain's treachery, and alignment to the Ruinous Powers. The rest of the 7th Company was dispatched to bring their renegade brothers back to Baal, to face judgement. However, when Kain and his followers were found, The Plague vessel Terminus Est arrived, and saved Kain and his men from the wrath of their former Chapter. Ever since, Kain and his Sergeants have been willing cronies of Typhus the Traveller, and slowly succumbed to the gifts of father Nurgle, becoming Plague Marines, and taking on the Warband title of the "Clotted Heart." The Coagulated Father, Ibrim Kain ![]() "Those fools back on Baal don't know the deep truth of our chapter. We've been long tainted by the hand of Father Nurgle, they just refuse to accept it. For the Fruits we found on Jirl-VII were blessed by his hands, and did away with the Black Rage, the curse of Khorne. We have seen the truth and salvation of the sons of Sanguinius. We embraced it. If that makes us renegades and heretics, so be it!" Ibrim Kain was once the Sanguinary Priest of the Blood Angel's 7th Company. It was under his watch, that the 7th suffered the lowest number of Black Rage outbreaks in a Millennia. However, in 777.M35, two whole squads of brothers fell to the effects of the Black Rage. Shaken, Kain underwent the pilgrimage, that led him to becoming the debased, and unhinged Sorcerer of Chaos, known as the Coagulated Father. Kain is a green pale skinned demihuman, who so far has yet to fall to the cosmetic horrors that befall one of the Clotted Heart's marines, whom do not regularly drink mortal blood. In fact, Kain hordes kegs of warm blood from his men, as he knows that letting them thirst, will turn them into proper Plague Marines. Kain has since recruited many other Space Marines to his cause, all are sons of the Sanguine Gene Seed. Members of the Blood Drinkers, Crimson Legion, and many others have joined his cause, turning their backs on both the Emperor and their Primarch. As a result, Kain leads a sizable band of Marines in service to Nurgle. Many of whom are now hosts to both the Red Thirst and Nurgle's Rot. His three vessels, The Red Wake, Crimson Death, and Angel's Feather form a small flotilla upon which his Warband resides. They are often found where ever the Terminus Est can also be found. Aiding in spreading the plague of Unbelief. Since swearing loyalty to Nurgle, he has become a powerful Psyker, and wields a Force Sword "Soul Reaper," in addition to a Plasma Pistol. In a mockery to his former chapter, he can often be seen carrying a Blood Chalice, filled with the vitae of his former Brothers, and supping from it with relish during a battle. Kain is often followed by 6 Chosen Marines, and no one is sure of the identities of these Marines. Clearly corrupted by Nurgle's gifts, they bear the signs of warp mutation, and are utterly silent. They simply do as ordered, and keep their master safe from what may dare harm him. Daemon Prince Ebolan Dysintarius, formerly Brother Sergeant Lianus Raziel![]() "Come brothers! Let us partake in the blessed stew of Father Nurgle, for his love and charity is boundless!" Brother Sergeant Raziel of the Blood Angels 7th Company was always a jovial and happy sort. A stark contrast to the often grim faced sons of Sanguinius. Ever one to have a joke and a smile, it was hard not to enjoy his company, and he was Kain's closest companion. Raziel however, was never an Astartes to have much of a mind of his own, and not only joined Kain in heresy, but reveled in it. It was thanks almost entirely to Raziel that his other 5 fellow Sergeants fell in service to Nurgle. With a gusto usually only found in followers of Slaanesh, Raziel quickly embraced his role as a Champion of Nurgle. It was during the 7th Black Crusade that Raziel impressed Father Nurgle so greatly, that he granted Raziel the gift of becoming a Daemon Prince. Raziel was reborn as Prince Ebolan Dysintarius, and quickly amassed a following of various lesser Nurgle Daemons. This band of Warp Spawn follow The Clotted Heart almost exclusively, giving the traitorous band of former Blood Angels, plenty of warp fueled assistance at all times. The Hardened Arteries Plague Marines of the Clotted Heart ![]() Headed by former Brother Sergeants Turel, and Rahab. Former squad leaders are now debased champions of Nurgle, whom lead their squadrons of Plague marines forth into battle. They are little more than echoes of the once noble and honorable Astartes they once were. Now fetid, pox ridden heralds of a virulent death. Doctrine of the Clotted heart sees Champions lead squads of 7 Marines into battle, to honor Nurgle's sacred number. The Fetid Masses Cultists and Plague Zombies ![]() The charisma of Kain has been augmented unnaturally by Father Nurgle, and he has turned scores of civilians and Imperial Guardsmen over to worshiping the Patriarch of Plagues. As such, waves of cultists will throw themselves at the guns and blades of the Emperor's defenders and gladly die for Kain's twisted cause. For they are all hosts to the Plague of Unbelief, and will continue to rise in waves of undead, flesh craving zombies, that spread the disease with every bite and scratch. Destruction Cult Dumah![]() While Dumah accepted Nurgle as his savior, Dumah was the 2nd Devastator Sergeant for the Blood Angels 7th Company. When he learned of the cult of Destruction, it fueled his deep love for massive destruction with heavy weaponry. Dumah left Kain for a time, on a dark pilgrimage of his own. It is said that Dumah and 5 others from his old Devastator squad sought out the Daemon Primarch Pertirabo, and the father of the Iron Warriors taught the 6 fallen Astartes much. They returned to Kain, 2 millennia later, changed. They were now Nurglite Daemons of the Cult of Destruction. Ready to punish the Imperium of man with their awesome firepower. The Virulent Tide Daemon Host of Nurgle ![]() The modest throng of daemons that follows Prince Dysintarius into the mortal realm has been labeled the "Virulent Tide" by the Inquisition. By attaching their essence to the Scorcerer Kain, this small army of Plague Daemons is able to overcome the often, strenuos hold on real space that daemons have. The small plague fleet of the Clotted Heart is able to act as a warp anchor for the daemons. While their number is small, this allows the daemons to act as a specialist force for Kain's purposes. Often sent out to act as anti-tank units, as the corrupt blades of the plague bearers can rust even a mighty Leman Russ Tank to dust. The Cult of the Dark Mechanicum![]() During Kain's original pilgrimage, he managed to enlist the aid of a small contingent of Iron Hands Astartes to join his small war party. This was aided by the fact that Kain had managed to convince 3 Knights from a Freeblade Mercenary House to join him. The Knights would need help with repairs and maitenece. Two Smiths from the Iron Hands, Forge Brothers Lopri and Fyet. It's not clear how these two ended up falling to chaos alongside Kain, but Kain's charisma is suspect. Lopri and Fyel are now twisted Warpsmiths, whom maintain Kain's various daemonic war machines in addition to the Forsworn house of Butig. Of the 20 Iron Hands marines that followed these two originally, 14 turned alongside their leaders and have become Warpsmiths as well. Forsworn Knight House Blutig Forsworn Households of Imperial Knights are incredibly rare, and do not survive long usually. However House Blutig has managed to last over 4 millenia due to having followed Ibrim Kain. This has kept them close to the Plague Fleets of Typhus the Traveller which allots them much greater security than your average band of traitor Knights. House Blutig encompasses only three renegade Knights. Helmut Krauser, Joseph Licht, and Franz Blutig. Franz is the leader of the three traitors, and due to several raids orchestrated by Ibrim Kain, the traitor house has a large supply of spare Knight Walkers at their disposal. Thanks in part to the sizeable Warpsmith force possessed by the Clotted Heart, the renegades remain at a combat strength akin to when they still remained a part of the Mercenary House Kaiserlich. It would be foolish to suggest that this traitorous trio put up resistance to turning to the ruinous powers, however, it's much further from the truth. For Franz Blutig and Ibrim Kain had met once before, fighting on the side of the Emperor during the 4th Black Crusade. Franz and his brother Knights were still a part of House Makabius at the time. After that war, Franz and his brothers returned, but were shamed. Their Knight Chassis had been damaged beyond repair during the war, and they were cast out. They were recruited by the Mercenary band that called itself, "House Kaiserlich." This band of Freeblades were all disgraced former Knights from several houses, all seeking to reclaim their lost glory. However, the history of House Makabius is censored, and most don't know that long ago, this house threw it's hand to the side of the Warmaster Horus during his great Heresy, and had defiled holy Terra. Only after Horus's failure, and the death of their leader by the hand of Rogal Dorn, did they heel to the Emperor's will. Still, the seed of corruption lingers in his house, as it's members are the most common to go Renegade, or throw their pact in with the ruinous powers. Franz had already sold his soul to Nurgle, Helmut to Tzeench, and Licht to Slaanesh. They had a fourth Brother Knight between them, Robin, whom had sided with Khorne. However, his body and Knight Walker, became possessed by a Daemon of Khorne, and his three brothers slew him. For they had a mission to complete, and it required patience rather than brash rage. So, the three brother Knights joined the Mercenary Band, and they waited. It was upon the enlistment call from Ibrim Kain, that they finally put their plan into action. The three Knights directed Kain towards the Maelstrom... and the rest is history. Since sewing the seeds of corruption into the Astartes that came to be known as the "Clotted Heart," the three brother Knights have watched over their progeny. They represent an undivided element to the otherwise, mostly Nurgle focused group. While Nurgle is their chosen father, the three Knights are called to a higher mission. They represent a dark pact that makes up the foundation of this warband. Whatever plan or mission the Gods of Chaos have for these knights, is no longer clear, beyond simply standing vigil, and protecting the Clotted Heart from those whom would wipe them from the face of the galaxy. The Figures in the Darkness![]() ![]() It would appear that Ibrim Kain is a man of either great luck, or great misfortune. His master, in the physical realm, is the Plague Champion Typhus. Nurgle's chosen son to spread disease and plague across the galaxy and the Empire of Man. Typhus, and his vessel, the Terminus Est, are common sights within the Clotted Heart's Flotilla. Kain is one of Typhus' chosen disciples, and is used to spread the plague of unbelief. Fortis proved to be a wonderful breeding ground for the zombie plague, and after Typhus had lent his services to the Slaanesh Marines whom initially landed on Fortis, he sent his servant, Kain, to further cultivate the plagues that he had released into the city of Fidelis. There is another however, whom serves some other darker mission, looming in Kain's shadow. A renegade Astartes, whom simply calls himself "Cypher," has offered his services to the Chaos Sorcerer. With him are a small gathering of other renegade Astartes. Elite warriors, draped in shadow. They asked not for payment, only a chance to aid in the mission of the ruinous powers. Oddly, Kain detected no corruption within Cypher, or his fellows. They are renegades by choice, and a highly trained group of warriors. Kain assumes them to be Alpha Legion. He distrusts them, but so far, Cypher and his men have proven to be effective, silent blades, for tasks that require discretion. Kain is a fool however, as Cypher, and his men, are of a group known only to the Dark Angels chapter of Astartes as "The Fallen." Heretics that turned traitor in the wake of the Horus Heresy, and a black stain on the Dark Angels reputation, that they hunt with an almost fanatical care. His mere presence alone, will more than likely draw the Dark Angels to Fortis, and Cypher always has his own, hidden, agenda. Cypher has been playing both sides on the war in Fortis. He has taken on the guise of the Inquisitor Arnuldus, a common alias and cover used by Cypher over the years. Somehow he carries all the proper documentation and badge of office of the Ordo Sepulturum. The Inquisition is a large, and bureaucratic organization. Easily manipulated and just as easy to impersonate with the proper tools and attitude. He and his fellow fallen, can pass for an Inquisitorial band quite easily. A tactic that Cypher has abused to no end. Edited by The_Clotted_Heart, Jun 8 2016, 02:23 AM.
