Kim Su-yi is the Chairman of the Workers' Party of Joseon (WPJ) and supreme leader of the Greater Joseon Republic. She is referred to by the Joseon people and state media as the "Beloved Leader," in the same style that her grandfather was known as the "Great Leader," and her father the "Dear Leader." Kim Su-yi is believed to be the only child of her predecessor, Kim Sung-ju. Like the rest of her family, little is known for certain about Kim Su-yi. Before taking power following her father's death to illness, she had barely been seen in public. It is believed Kim was active within the propaganda department, as well as being in charge of the security and schedule of her father. As Kim Sung-ju's health declined, his daughter reportedly began taking over more and more of the day-to-day tasks of running the Joseon government in her father's name. It is believed that Kim studied abroad under a pseudonym, though where she studied and for how long cannot be confirmed. JCNA confirmed the ascension of Kim to her father's place as Supreme Leader seven days after her father's death, on January 26th, 2026. Unlike her father and grandfather, Kim Su-yi's hold on power within Joseon does not appear to be secure. This may be due to the fact she is the first female leader of Joseon, though it is more likely it is her policies that antagonize her peers in the Joseon government. Kim Su-yi is the first GJR leader to openly support peace between Joseon and Gaeseong. Her actions toward that goal, including but not limited to her turning over of Joseon's stealth fighter aircraft and agreeing to Gaeseon-managed dismantlement of Joseon's nuclear arsenal, have reportedly put her at odds with the hardliner generation in the Worker's Party. The government appears split between this hardliner faction and the new, younger progressives who share Kim's views. Kim appears to have up until this point balanced her progressive reforms with appeasing the hardliners, continuing Joseon's antagonistic posturing and rhetoric. She has also maintained Joseon's network of concentration and prison camps, as well as politically-motivated executions, in order to maintain power. Sources within Joseon have reported that the hardliner faction within Joseon continues to clandestinely oppose and obstruct Kim's progressive policies, most importantly her agreement with Gaeseong to eradicate Joseon's nuclear weapons. The implications of this apparent power struggle cannot be ignored. |
