SAMPLE:

Quinn Zell looked out into the stars. She loved looking at the stars, shining brightly in the sky. She never really understood how they were great big balls of light and how they were so far away but shone so brightly. She did now, because flipping Hettie would not shut up about how the stars were formed in The Great Explosion. This girl was so annoying. Always wearing her goggles, acting like she knows it all- nerd. How Quinn hated know-it-alls.

"Oh Hettie, do shut up, we don't care about them stupid old stars!" That attitude? It must have been Daun. The girl with the bangs and shaved head. Quinn heard she was a commoner- one of the lucky few to be picked out of a hat to be placed in the ship with the higher soldiers. Although, oddly to Quinn, she didn't seem to want to be there. It must have been the way she sighed a lot, or dragged her eyes around in distaste at the others. She probably thinks that we are snobby, Quinn thought. A lower girl, probably living in those god-forsaken houses with only two floors.. True, Quinn had been living in a muddy shack for a month or two, but she'd been well off, really. But how could a commoner not see that the entire journey and idea of moving to this "Earth" was a blessing for them? Leaving the chaos-riddled Chaon and moving to a land of peace and harmony.. it seemed like a paradise.

"Well I cannot help my fascination and admiration of the universe, it's expansion and mysteries! A scientist like myself cannot hold the excitement, and the relief, and the sheer-"

"Hush now, Hettie. We have a long journey ahead and now is not the time for bickering." That voice was like a melody, so soft yet so stern. Quinn turned in her seat to see the girl speaking. A clergy? On this trip, to paradise? Quinn frowned, her religion helped her through the bad times, but this girl has no purpose. Morale is all she gives. She admired the way Hettie seemed to stop, though, instantly under the administration of this.. girl. They were all girls. Quinn wondered why no boys were coming on this trip. Maybe it was their love for conflict, maybe Chaon needed more soldiers and sent the girls to recruit. She wiggled in her harness, it was too tight for her chest. The plating she wore, as a soldier herself, kept her confined and tightly restricted in the seat. "Why do we not all introduce ourselves? It will make the journey much more comfortable. I am Sister Wilmott. You there, with the long locks.. what is your name?" The girl she was pointing to had longer hair than the rest and was gazing out of the window, transfixed by the stars. Quinn knew her type. She was pretty, no, more than pretty- she was beautiful, a rare specimen seen on Chaon. No hair-dye, no scars, not a single lash out of place. She was The Kept. One of those girls who were locked away from the outside, safe in their houses of four levels, so no harm would come to them. Chaon was.. such a bad place. And to call it "home" was not what Quinn looked to describe it as. More like a hell, more like a warground, trenches, mud, death, despair, screaming..

"Augustina. Isn't the sky beautiful? That's what they call it, isn't it? The sky.." Was she on sleeping medication? She didn't seem all quite there, to Quinn. Maybe it was the shock of feeling the wind in her hair for the first time, the cold snowflakes on her skin, the stink of smoke. It must be odd to be inside all your life, listening to the holo-records and sleeping in a bed. Quinn had been subject to the harsh winters, the scorching summers, the mud and the sweat and the rain and the blood.

"She's a soldier. Definitely. Can't you see her armour?" Quinn snapped back to life and glared at them all. She brushed her hair out of her face, goddamnit it needed a cut, and she hoped it didn't stink. The looks she got in return varied. Smirks from Daun, curiosity from Hettie, concern from Sister Wilmott and awe from Augustina. They better get to this Earth place quickly, she thought.

The sooner out of Chaon, the better.

Suddenly, to the passengers, the entire ship started to bend and morph.

"We're being attacked!" Hettie screeched and all the girls started to undo their seatbelts. That was a stupid idea. Augustina, of course, began crying and Sister Wilmott had to control her whilst trying to settle the others. Daun.. well she was off. Where was Daun? Quinn's head thrashed about, the screaming of colliding metal and the clanking of machinery causing only her sight to grant her guidance. She saw her foot, in her boot, rushing to the Captain's Nest. She unclicked her seatbelt as a large piece of the wall behind her caved in just in time, she would have been speared and made into a human kebab. No time for joking.

She ran after Daun as best as she could, hearing the shouts from the crew as they tried to keep the ship in a steady motion. She pounded through the compartments, pressing the buttons to open the doors with slamming fists. She saw some glass as she ran through though, they didn't use glass on Chaon, it shattered too easily, it-

Metal cascaded down and before Quinn could react, she was trapped under the body of a large roofing metal. She felt the ship, a pod, turn drastically vertical and she slid down to the closing door. Luckily, her sliding was stopped by the metal falling off her back and blocking the doorway. She crawled through the space to the Captain's Nest and found them dead. She'd seen bodies before, in the war, so this didn't slow her. She wasn't enlightened by the fact their necks had been pierced and they were bleeding over the control panel, however. She had to wipe off some of the deep red liquid to assess the controls. They were complicated, she had no idea how to fly a spaceship, she needed-

Hettie!

She had to crawl back to the Holding Cells. Thanks to her suit, she wasn't in too much pain but there was a dull throbbing pain in the back of her head which caused her to be woozy. Once she crawled through the bridge, the ship slid backwards vertically and she was sent hurtling through to the girls. And she saw them. Covered in blood, Sister Wilmott was trapped, Augustina's cheek had been torn apart and was squirting blood everywhere. Where was Hettie, she needed her-

And as the spaceship landed with a smash, everything was black.
