![]() ”Whereas some claim mere land or weapons as birthright, the birthright of the Saika is magic itself!” General Information Name: Maikawa Saika Nicknames/Titles: Lady Mai, usually Age: 22 Gender Female Race: Valerian Faith: She is quite conflicted as far as faith goes, though for image’s sake, she has faith in the Valerian Pantheon Height: 6’1” Weight: 61 kg Occupation: Incumbent Lady of the Saika Clan Residence: Tatsunoko Village History and Advanced Info Appearance: Mai is a naturally beautiful Valerian lady, tall and proud. She has a lithe, slender build, modestly curvy, and clear fair skin on the pale side to contrast her long black hair. She is quite fond of cosmetics; she rarely ever gets out of her room without a modest amount of makeup, most especially not without purple eyeliner. Speaking of eyes, she possesses unusual orange eyes with slitted pupils like a cat or lizard. One might attribute this to her...affinity with Abomination Aspect, as it does tend to imprint bodily defects on the magician. Personality: As befitting of a noblewoman and heiress, Mai carries with her an air of sophistication and class, courtesy of the highest degree, but the sort that seems taught and not really inherent to her person. If anything was taught to her aside from this, it was how to properly care for and interact with both her lessers and betters. Though thrust upon her an overwhelming amount of power and responsibility, she still by all means a young adult. Smart enough to conceal her inexperience, she remains unable to withstand continued pressure without the help of her advisors. Underneath the veil of nobility, Mai is just a fragile, wide-eyed, lowkey arrogant girl that wants nothing more than an end to the fighting between her clan and the neighboring Tekunin samurai clan, who in turn are in the payroll of the O clan. Idealistic and, to an extent, naive, she has no idea why the fighting must go on, but since it goes on regardless, she is able to muster the courage to defend her lands. Mai is very flexible, she is of the opinion that a good lady must become whatever her people requires of her. Since they now require a strong, stern and compassionate leader, only the heavens can stop Mai from trying her best at becoming such a woman. Combat/Magic Skills: The Saika are erudite sorcerers, first and foremost in the region. Mai is absolutely no different. Specializing in the summoning arts, she projects arcane constructs of animals into existence to fight for her. The signature art of the Saika also focuses on soulmass orbs, using their Critical Mass to decimate her enemies. There is also a persisting rumor that she is able to to use Abominable Aspect. Relationships: She is widely popular in her hometown, solely because she’s their sole hope for independence from warlord subjugation History: To understand Mai, let us understand her clan. The Saika clan are a small yet deeply influential noble houses that has roots in sorcery and Silver Elven relations. Valuing peace and independence of thought above all others, they are naturally opposed to the despotic warring that has become identical with Valerian culture. Such and so that they opted to keep to themselves and practice the magic they loved so dearly without intentionally seeking out war. Considered to be a mixture of Elven ingenuity and Valerian spirit, they became known as the best sorcerers the nation had to offer. Though despite their pacifist attitude, it was not long before war knocked on the Saika’s doorstep. The iron grip of Ken-Oh, one of the Four Great Warlords, encroached on their home. Despite their personal misgivings, they had no choice but to rise in the defense. Saika sorcerers were in the front line in repelling the O clan’s forces. Despite the seemingly impeccable stratagems of the enemy, their magics were always there to stop them. Against all odds, the Saika and their comrades repelled the invaders, though not without sustaining heavy losses. So many had fallen, almost halving the clan’s numbers. Mai’s grandfather Ginrei, undoubtedly the greatest in the clan’s recent history, had succumbed to his wounds after the deadly duel with Areum, daughter of the late Sage herself and fell just a few hours after the O routed, thus making her father, Ryuken, succeed him as head of the Saika. As the actual Japanese old guard can attest to, it wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to grow up in a post-war environment. Mai’s childhood was never free from the shadow of grief for her fallen kin and the destruction left in the wake of the O clan. Added with the knowledge that she was her father’s only legitimate heir, it’s safe to say that things got a bit intense in her childhood days. Little time was spent beyond lessons on manners, politics and magic. It made for a rather detached girl and when she was finally free from her responsibilities, she became just ever so slightly immature, making up for her abandoned childhood. To give one example, Mai never thought that the forces that had decimated her homelands so long ago would have the gall to return, but in the end, that was exactly what happened. The O clan came once more to take the sovereign of the Saika, apparently out of spite. Ryuken had done so much, but they were still very much recovering from the previous attacks. This campaign left them at a massive disadvantage. At the end of the day, the losses to the land itself were comparatively minimal. But Mai had taken a serious blow. An emotional one. The O forces seemed to specifically target notable members of the Saika, almost completely purging their existence. Her father, half-brothers, most of her cousins and all but three of her retainers fell on that one day when they swarmed the Saika keep and burned most of it and the village down. Only she, her mother, her sister Maremi and a couple of other relatives survived and with Mai being the oldest, it fell to her the responsibility of keeping her beloved home alive and restore hope to her people. Not an easy job in the slightest. |
