QB Changes Depending on the data from this season, it's likely that we will be changing QB passing touchdowns to 6 points per TD from 4. The 70% completion nerf implemented early in the offseason was done to increase disparity between the elite and journeyman QBs in the FBK league. However, this disparity does not match that seen in the other core positions and as a result QBs are potentially not as impactful to a team as others. This does not fit the FBK league vision; it doesn't fit the 'real league' narrative when a QB is an afterthought on the team. One way to correct this is to start two QBs, but this also does not fit the league vision as two QBs don't start in a single game (usually). Assuming that the data stay consistent this next year and disparity is unaffected by the change, QBs will score 6 points per passing TD as of next year. Contract Extensions Contract extensions are on hold until the following offseason (the deadline to do this was coming up anyways). I'm unhappy with the current state of determining contract values and will likely completely overhaul the system over the course of the season. The likely change will focus more on the league's perceived value rather than empirical calculations of supposed value, since these have not been up to par with owners that have requested extensions. In order to determine the league's perceived values of players, I will likely have a value committee which will represent the views from the entire league. The committee will rank players in a given position in numerical fashion, from 1 to 50 (or say 25 for QBs, TEs, D/ST, K). Value will encompass all factors - since the FBK is a dynasty league, ranks must consider a player's value longer than just the immediate upcoming year. I have not decided who or how many will be on the committee (if I decide to go this route), but if you are interested, please let me know here or in another form of contact. After ranks have been determined and averaged from the committee's individual ranks, the player to be extended will be matched with a price of his rank and inflation will be incurred. In this way, the perceived value of the player is considered (if they were to hit free agency) and the player will be guaranteed to make slightly more money than he's ranked to be, which is comparable to an NFL contract extension. Expanding the FBK League Currently, the FBK League sends 60% of each division to the playoffs. This number is a bit too high for competitive purposes. Additionally, team depth is very comfortable with only 10 leagues and so many roster spots to hold players. This leads to good players not seeing the field almost all year. To make the league more competitive, both by decreasing playoff teams to 50% as well as by making the acquisition of valuable players more competitive, the league is currently looking to expand to a 12 team league. If this should happen next year, an expansion draft may occur. It's far too early to tell how these things will happen, but keep in mind it may. If you are unfamiliar with the basics of expansion drafts, it essentially allows for incoming teams to steal away a select few players from other teams. You would probably be able to protect some of your valuable players, but this protection number would be limited and the more valuable players you have, the more likely you would be to lose a player in expansion. Alternatively, the expansion teams might be able to simply out-bid teams in free agency and build their rosters there. Nothing is set in stone. I do not have any specific potential owners in mind to expand to twelve teams, but I assure you that I will be VERY selective in bringing people in. This league is my child, and I won't run the risk of bringing in random people that don't gel with the league. I may even hold (role play) professional interviews for potential candidates; that's how serious I'm taking this (but honestly that just sounds fun to me, can you imagine Nick and I wearing a suit over skype with some kid scared out of his mind?). And why shouldn't I take this serious? I believe we have one of the premier leagues in fantasy football, and people would be lucky to join it. If you think you have a solid candidate in mind, let me know. More than anything, I'm looking for dedicated and active members who are willing to role play (in accordance with the league vision) over traits such as 'well I'm good at fantasy'. As far as the 2017 draft is concerned, be assured that while the incoming teams would be receiving high draft picks to compensate for their relatively weak rosters, they WILL NOT receive the 1st or 2nd picks in the draft. If you suck that badly, you've earned it. 2018 and beyond At some point in the league, assuming we really get to know this dynasty format and the owners are willing to introduce a new challenge, the league may introduce IDP (individual defensive players) to replace the D/ST position. Here, IDP would get points just as any offensive player would on a weekly basis, with tackles, sacks, fumbles forced and INT as point metrics. You would be able to add to your team players from DE (defensive end), DT (defensive tackle), ILB (inside linebacker), OLB (outside linebacker), CB (cornerback), and S (safety) positions. The specifics of how many, which position, and other details are nowhere near detailed, as this change is merely an idea for now. This change would, however, allow us to expand our rookie drafts to potentially 6 or 7 rounds, and would add a new interesting, complex strategy to drafting. Overall I do believe this change is the future of the league as it perfectly fits with the league vision (again, real league). Another potential future feature that I've thought of, though to no practical extent, is adding RP (role-playing) elements to the league. As most of you know, I've acted as a DM for a couple of DnD campaigns and tend to create my own worlds rather than follow the story someone else has created. I like the idea of extending RP to things other than elves with swords because I enjoy it, but I will not commit to anything that the league is not interested in. Things I have briefly considered, to give you an idea of what I'm talking about: * adding weather effects to home stadiums which affect point totals in games (and allowing you to customize your team in considering those common weather effects, giving you more of an edge at home) * creating a fanbase feature where events during and after the season affect fan numbers and lead to revenue which can be spent on a variety of features and changes the balance of power within the league * (brace yourself) sending our league back in time to a medieval setting, where teams are the major source of entertainment in the world and spark wars and shit, allowing the league to have non-football actions and decisions that potentially have effects on the football side of things, and essentially making our league into a full-fledged DnD campaign The last one sounds both awesome and far too time consuming, but it was a thought that entered my brain. For now, just keep it in mind and PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS on your thoughts to any of the above suggested changes. No matter how much I want any of the above changes, I promise I won't do it if the owners don't collectively want it also. |

I don't know if this is too unprofessional to say as the upstanding owner of the great Portland Beavers, but I love you, Cody. You rock. The time and effort you put into this is much appreciated! |

I am 100% on board with these proposed changes. Defensive player drafting could add an entire new dimension to this and that would be awesome to explore. Also I'd be ecstatic to talk about the last point offline sometime...wars over sports are what makes sports worth it in my opinion (lookin at you, Iranian olympic judo fighter) |

I love everything except the 12 team league I guess I'd just need to be convinced it could work in this format... but everything else gets a 'Yay' from me! |

Damn do I hate expansion drafts but if it has to happen it has to happen. Agree with quarterback and individual defense players. We should add offset language to contacts, I'd like to be the Spanos of the league. |

"* creating a fanbase feature where events during and after the season affect fan numbers and lead to revenue which can be spent on a variety of features and changes the balance of power within the league" If we want to go all in on this league this is a good idea. Teams that have higher revenues should have a better chance at FAs or a multiplier in free agency acquisitions since in sports someone would rather play in LA or NY than Milwaukee just due to larger market. Teams that have a history of making the playoffs should also have a multiplier since NFL free agents wanting to win a ring would take less to sign with the Pats or Seahawks or someone over the Titans. Obviously it shouldn't be exclusive, bad teams can throw a shitload cap space at FAs like the Jags and Raiders and get their FAs, but it should require that in order to get them. Also, teams with perennially low revenue should face relocation and switch up the city where they are from. With all of this, teams that perform well get rewarded for it and teams that struggle have to build through the rookie draft like in the NFL instead of just quick-fixing unrealistically in FA. |
