Louis finished his tea while he listened to Alexander. At Evoro's arrival, he set the cup down, where it was promptly taken by a server. "Oh, hello Lieutenant. What a pleasant surprise! May I ask how you've been?"

Evoro

Evoro waves a hand in refusal of the wine. "Sorry, I'm staying off the wine fer the time being." A few wisps of smoke drift out from between his bandages as he turns toward Louis. "I've been just fine, thank ye. Been dueling some folks, mostly fer fun."

Alexander nodded, eyeing Evoro. "Same, really. Perhaps you might be interested in a duel, then? Perhaps a deadly one? For whatever that counts for here, anyway."

Evoro

Another puff of smoke emerges from Evoro's bandages, and he taps a few ashes out of the pipe and onto a nearby ashtray. "A lethal bout? Tempting, though I'm still recovering from me last one. Was quite the fight, I tell ye!" Evoro attempts to show what he means by pointing to a particularly bloodied line in his bandages near his covered eye.

"You're a duelist as well?" Louis gave Alexander a slightly vexed look. "Alexander has tried on more than one occasion to convince me of its worth as a pastime or training tool, but I fear I may be unable to appreciate whatever it is that he finds so appealing about dueling."

"Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear that you're doing well, Lieutenant."

Evoro

"'Tis the thrill of the fight wot keeps me dueling, ye see." Evoro taps the remaining ashes onto the ash tray as the final few wisps of smoke exit his bandaged mouth, and tucks the pipe back into his pocket. "Nothing quite like it, really..." His uncovered eye stares into the distance wistfully, before he snaps back to reality with a quick blink. "Yes, anyway, 'twas good making yer acquaintance, Alexander. And I'll have to take ye up on yer offer soon."

Alexander nodded, looking over to Louis. "Indeed. The thrill of the fight, the clash of wits and skill, using everything in your arsenal to defeat a foe. It's a feeling few ever experience, and less appreciate. It's something I've tried to show Louis quite a lot. Sadly...he's never seen the appeal."

"It just feels... How should I say... Inauthentic. All the rules and the pre-duel arranging of terms, to me, overly-ritualize the whole exercise. If I already know in advance details about my opponent, including what I can expect if I succeed or what the consequences of failure will be, where's the thrill?"

Evoro

"The thrill is in the unexpected. When ye know all there is to know about yer opponent, what can they do? They can try something new." Evoro leans back in his chair, taking in the surrounding decor. "There's also the heat-of-the-moment decision making, when yer opponent parries yer all-in lunge, ye gotta think on the fly." He pauses for a moment, getting distracted by something-or-other. "Oo, I could really go fer a scone about now..."

"Capital idea!" Louis's eyes lit up at the mention of food. "All I've had to eat was a small plate of buuz I brought from the Tomb-Colonies. How does zeefood sound? I wonder if that trattoria near Leadbeater & Stainrod has gotten any albino moray in today..."
