![]() Two-time world champion, Europe and Russia Evgeni Medvedev came to figure skating in three and a half years and at the age of 12 became a member of the Russian national team. Since then, she has repeatedly won prizes at various Russian and international competitions. The athlete's uneasy path to sporting glory has always been associated with the support, love and care of her mother, who made a huge contribution to the professional development of her daughter. ![]() Evgenia and Jeanne are a small sports dynasty. It was Mother, who herself was engaged in figure skating, became an inspiration and an example for the future world champion. And now they together will tell their story of ups, downs, tears and joy, in which the strength and support of the mother became the basis of the child's sporting success. "I'm happy to join the P & G program" Thank you, Mom! "And again thank my mother for everything she has done for me and continues to do. After all, all that I have achieved for today in life and in sport is thanks to my mother, her support, the boundless faith in me and the unconditional love that she gives me every day, "comments Evgeny Medvedev's partnership. Zhanna, Evgeniya Medvedeva's mother, said: "I am proud of my daughter, her successes and victories, the way she overcomes difficulties and becomes better and stronger in all respects. I believe in it and I am ready to be there at the most difficult and crucial moments. We are grateful to P & G for the opportunity to share our history. " ![]() For more than five years, P & G has acted as the "honorary sponsor of moms" all over the world. The Japanese edition of The Japan Times believes that Wakaba Higuchi was unfairly placed in second place at the Cup of China, where Alina Zagitova won . "The judges stole the victory at Higuchi at the Cup of China. Enough of this delirium. Higuchi fantastically performed in an arbitrary program. She purely performed seven triple jumps and performed with such emotions that her heart froze. She looked great in her dark blue dress and very cleanly performed the elements. Her reward for this is second place. Russian Zagitova, of course, talented and gifted athlete, but her skating is not as polished as that of Higuchi. In addition, all her jumps were specially transferred to the second part of the program, which is to receive bonuses. Zagitova even fell in the short program. It's just wrong. She divides her program into artistic and athletic parts. The same thing happened last year at the junior world championships, when Zagitova went around Marin Honda , although many believed that the Japanese should win. Four years have passed since the moment when Adeline Sotnikova beat Yu-Na Kim. After this fiasco in Sochi-2014 nothing has changed. The winner gets the second place, and the silver medalist becomes the winner. This is the reason why many fans of figure skating in recent years have stopped watching their favorite sport. Because they believe in their eyes, not in anonymous refereeing, "the article says. |

![]() Now it's even surprising to remember that before the start of the season "Grand Prix" the French stage seemed to many not the most exciting and intriguing. But how it all happened in the end! Was it possible, for example, to assume that Kathleen Osmond would almost remain in France without a prize and a guaranteed place in the series finale? But the tournament with the leader of the women's national team of Canada did not ask. Even her impressive short program, at the moment, perhaps, her main trump card, was not without noticeable blots. And the assessments for the components of Kaitlin in France were significantly lower than in Canada: the winner of the World Cup-2017 lost more points in the second rating to herself. Of course, in the women's tournament I really wanted to see how the battle between the two main favorites - Osmond and Alina Zagitovawith unmistakable hire of both. Alas, this question remained unanswered, as both fell and were wrong. ![]() Another thing is that Zagitova her trump card - the most complicated and "doroguschey" arbitrary - did not spoil anything and performed on a new personal record. 15-year-old beautiful Russian woman again clearly hinted to her rivals: when they make mistakes and give a chance, Zagitova is able at the expense of an arbitrary win back behind more than 6 points. Another question is that giving rivals a head start due to their own mistakes in the short, there is always a risk to let them go to the distance that does not go off. While this was not, but in the finals of the "Grand Prix" trick may not work. ![]() Another heroine of the stage was Maria Sotskova . Her name can be lost in the information noise around such personalities as Osmond, Zagitov or Evgeny Medvedev , she still lacks something to beat the minion exclusively at the expense of her own efforts. But with all this, Maria has been showing a rare and very valuable quality for the last six months: she is quietly and qualitatively doing her job in the center of boiling strangers' passions and, as they say, she "does not give her away". And this tactic works: having received two very difficult stages in the composition, Maria managed to make it to the final of the Grand Prix, twice becoming the second. In the end, as we have seen examples, when the chance, sometimes the most incredible, comes precisely to the person who is ready for it. It seems that Maria is just one of those. ![]() Another fantastic layout developed in the dance tournament. The main drama here happened to the Canadians Kaitlin Weaver and Andrew Pozhe , who in all hands had to fight for the final of the Grand Prix. Not only did he have to perform against the backdrop of a partner's injury, so even from the beginning of the tournament, the skaters had no luck. Even in small things, like a partner's skirt, caught in a short dance under the partner's hobby on the starting choreographic element. Actually, in a short dance, the tournament for this duet actually ended when, After, I plucked the twizzles. The current season generally develops for a pretty Canadian couple dramatically. After the first tournament, they had to change an arbitrary dance at the insistence of the federation. For some reason, figure skaters with coach Nikolai Morozov decided not to return to last year's "Aranjuez", but to " Je sius Malade ". The logic in this choice, of course, can be seen: it's their most famous dance, thanks to him, Weaver and Poges at one time broke through into the elite. But so far this bet has not played. In Grenoble, Weaver and Pozha had the magic "Malade" enough to beat Alexandra Stepanov and Ivan Bukin in an arbitrary dance - but not to beat them by the sum of two programs. Failure Weaver and Pogo significantly increased the chances of reaching the final of the "Grand Prix". ![]() Competitions of sports couples in Grenoble have reminded why among the whole brilliant company of the current leaders of this kind the Chinese Wenjin Sui / Tsun Han are at the moment stand alone. Each of the pairs pretending to have something serious, has its own trump cards. But the Chinese, since the last World Cup, are mistaken much less than all others, and due to this stability they have already made a step forward in comparison with the rest. Just the stability is not enough for Eugenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov. In Grenoble in an arbitrary program, the current winners of the Grand Prix final were left without a cascade. The reserve, available after a short program, the Russians were enough for the final victory. But in France there was neither Sui with Han, nor other "mastodons". In the final, a similar error can cost our pair very expensive. ![]() As for the French Vanessa James and Morgana Sipre , who in Grenoble have again almost coped with the fourth blowout and won the Russians an arbitrary program, they still feel that they lack the reputational weight in comparison with their competitors, they are still perceived as "promising" and "rushing into the elite." But it, as is known, passes. Another thing is that before the Olympic Games can trite do not have enough time. And if it's enough? Then the number of applicants for medals will increase by one more pair. ![]() The male tournament in Grenoble will also turn out to be unusual: not every day a person who has already lost all chances of reaching the final is the hero. It's about Javier Fernandez . Yes, he did not succeed in everything at random. But the rental of a short program is worthy of revising it from time to time to raise your spirits. The main conclusion that brought the French stage: Fernandez, of course, is still in the game. And, judging by this short program rental, he is probably still the only person in the world who, with all other things being equal, is able to win against Yujduru Khanyu . Of course, if he does not screw up himself. Edited by ThirdTerm, Nov 19 2017, 07:49 PM.

The winner of the French Grand Prix stage in singles competitions Alina Zagitova is sure that in sport it is necessary to show rigidity for achieving her goals. - I really liked to speak at the Grand Prix. This time, not everything turned out in a short program, the random one was a success, "said the 15-year-old Russian figure skater. - Which image of the two programs is closer to you? - In short, because there I depict a swan, which from good turns into hard and assertive. In life one can not be only a kind person, one must be assertive. Now people have gone this way - complicated. - And you in life had to be tough ? - At the competitions. You train calmly, you go to the start and you need to do everything that you trained. Here it is necessary to show rigidity. "Are you a gentle person?" - Yes, but in sports it is necessary to show rigidity, because this is a sport. - At the Grand Prix in China, you said that you like Carolina Costner. But she's not a tough person at all. "I do not know her." I do not know her character. - You are the second season in a row, go to the Grand Prix final. Last year, they won the junior finals. What are your expectations now? - I liked to perform in the finals. It was a special and important start for me. Especially when the first time I saw other athletes - Shoma Uno, Javier, Yudzuru ... And when they were in one training session before the show, it's all! - Do you feel pressure from the press after your victories? Read the forums, what they write? - I try not to read. Now they like us to compare with Zhenya Medvedeva, to put pressure on us, because people do not understand that we are training in one group, and we need to calmly treat and prepare for competitions. |

https://twitter.com/sltribsports/status/933091419023056897 And Nathan, same kind of question to you. Is there anything that you’ve learned over the years on kind of just how to mentally move on from something like that? Chen: I mean, no performance has ever been absolutely perfect. There’s always things that I can improve on. And you know, the score definitely shows that in terms of what I did at that event. And then I think that, you know, just try to be honest with myself about every single thing that I did. And, just try to improve on those. So when you mention the team competition versus the individual competition, are there any different approaches when you are in the team event compared to the individual event? And kind of how do you prepare for both of those? Biles: Not necessarily. I feel like, every time you go up, you want to be the best that you can be that day and for that event. So you’re striving to be the best in that moment. So, you shouldn’t approach it too differently. Nathan, just for you, is there anything you’re really in particular looking forward to experiencing with your first Olympics off of the ice and kind of something you’re really looking forward to getting able to do when you get to PyeongChang? Chen: Yeah. I mean, this whole season has been awesome. You know, I’ve been able to, fortunately, partner with Team Kellogg’s. And everything that they’ve stood behind. Also, all the advice from Simone is something that I really can take to heart, and also something that I really feel I can connect with. And just these opportunities throughout the season, and the things, you know, that I have I guess historically at the Games. Really just you know, helps keep me motivated, keep me happy. MOSCOW, Nov 23 - R-Sport, Elena Vaitsekhovskaya. Coach Inna Goncharenko , under the direction of which Elena Evgenia Radonova , two-time vice-champion of Europe trained, before the current season , admitted in an interview with the R-Sport agency that she does not think that the departure of the figure skater from her group could be prevented, but stated that the conflict between them did not have. In the spring of last season right after the World Team Championship in Japan Radionova decided to change the coach and moved to Elena Bujanova's group , which had previously trained Olympic champion Sochi Adeline Sotnikova. "There was no conflict between us," Goncharenko said, "I knew that Lena was going to leave, but at one point she realized that it was already impossible to change something, and, apparently, it was not necessary: let the person go her way. When she lives a certain stage in life, perhaps, she will look at the whole story differently, and maybe not. " Elena Buyanova: Radionova committed an act, she came to change her destiny >>> "As a coach, I went with my athlete for many years, rising from the very bottom, from her childhood to the level when the same Zhenya Medvedeva said:" I want to ride like Lena Radionova. "Many coaches admitted that we were for them when sometimes it seemed to them that it was impossible to get into the coaching cohort of the great cohorts standing for many years at the side, then, looking at us, they again started to believe in it. It is clear that I also had something to do with that at some point in the development something went wrong between us, I just realized for a long time: all people live t as they want to live, "- concluded Goncharenko. https://rsport.ria.ru/interview/20171123/1129025708.html |

![]() The finalist of the Grand Prix in figure skating Alina Zagitova in an exclusive interview with "Soviet Sport" - about the first season at the adult level, increased popularity, relations with Eteri Tutberidze, favorite TV shows, music, the most difficult moment in the career, Izhstal and many friend. "I HAVE THE BEST WORLD TRAINER" - Alina, this is your first season at the adult level and you won three wins on three starts. Are you happy with the way things are going? - I'm not very satisfied with the performance of the short program, but I'm not happy with it. If to speak in general, I really liked to speak at the adult Grand Prix. - Were you worried before the first start? - Yes, of course, especially before the Grand Prix stage in Beijing. On the eve of the Cup of Lombardy worried not so much. "How did you deal with your nerves?" - Calmed myself with thoughts that I did all this in training, I have the best coach in the world. So I gradually came to the idea that there was no cause for excitement. - What impression did the fans leave in the stands in Beijing and Grenoble? V4x3 m 1509798257755 The birth of a supernova. Zagitova - the first in his first "Grand Prix" - In China, figure skating is more popular than in France, so the people came a lot. In Grenoble, there were fewer people in the stands. Of course, I would like to have a little more, but, anyway, support was felt. - Is it important for you to feel the support of the stands? - Yes, for me it is very important. When they are slamming in the stands, it's a direct wind. - Is it only in the context of a greeting or during a rental? - And in that and in other cases. - After the high-profile successes at the Grand Prix stages, we managed to feel the increased popularity? - Not yet. Is that in the instagram of subscribers a little bit more. "What about private messages?" Surely in all social networks began to write much more. - Well, yes, they write a lot of warm words in support. It is very nice. - Do you respond to the fans? - Yes, I always say thank you to them for their support and answer them if they ask any questions. It is important for me to give feedback to people. Simply earlier, if I wrote to some famous figure skaters or celebrities and they did not answer me, I was very upset. Well, when they answered, I was so glad! - To whom was the last time you wrote? And what was it - letters or messages on the Internet? - I already remember badly, because I was very small. She wrote both letters and messages in "VKontakte". "But surely there is a story left in the memory, when they were especially happy, having received an answer. - I wrote to one famous skater, I will not tell anyone. She was a foreign figure skater, and she answered me. And I still did not understand English very well , so I ran with joy in shouting: "Translator! Translator! "Search for it, to translate quickly. I was very happy. "I DO NOT LIKE NOISY COMPANIES" - How are things now with English? V4x3 m 1511018288095 Zagitova "lit" the assessment - and everyone fainted "Well, now I know him a little better." For example, girls say that it is not necessary to directly teach-teach. They have a lot of experience, they traveled to various starts many times, communicated with foreigners and gradually learned the words. So much easier. - Have you already met some of your rivals to get acquainted? - I probably did not manage to make friends with anyone. But there is a dancing couple who used to compete for Russia, and now skates for another country, that's how I deal with them. However, I do not like noisy companies, so I communicate with all a little. - Do any of your relatives go with you to foreign starts? - No, only coaches. Daniil Markovich (Gleikhauhaus - Ed.), Sergei Viktorovich (Dudakov - Ed.), Eteri Georgievna (Tutberidze - Ed.) - one of them, always in different ways. - You said that you are not entirely satisfied with the short program. What's wrong? - One cascade does not work. In this case, I perform it in an arbitrary manner. Honestly, I do not understand yet what's the matter. Maybe it's all about psychology - I got it into my head that he does not work for me, that's why I can not cope. We need to revise something in ourselves. - Maybe this is due to the fact that the program has a very complex image? It transforms the character - you turn from a white swan to black, and it's hard to reveal from the point of view of choreography. - At first it was very hard, but the coaches told me this story, I watched the film and after that more or less began to understand what was required of me. - What has changed in your training process when you move to the adult level? - We began to focus on slipping, filing programs. Of course, we pay too much attention to jumps. But a little more still concentrate on slipping, after all it's an adult level, here you have to ride in a different way. - What did Etheri Tutberidze tell you before the first adult starts? - Eteree Georgievna supported me, told me what mistakes to avoid and what needs to be done to roll the program well. - How will you prepare for the Grand Prix final? - I will train more and try to do everything in my power to avoid mistakes in the short program. "RUSSIAN RAP I DO NOT LISTEN" - You said that psychologically unloaded for watching the series. What was the last one watching? - Now came the next series of "Hotel Eleon" - recently I watch it. This is a Russian comedy series. - Name the three best series in your opinion. "Well, I'm still watching Sherlock, but I still do not understand the meaning of this show." I'll try to overpower him. And the rest, I do not even know. Cartoons any. - What about the super popular "Game of Thrones"? - No, I somehow do not get into that. It happens, of course, I watch all sorts of horror stories sometimes. And so, what else do I have here? Zagitov looks into the phone. - I still watch my programs. - Do you see any video bloggers? - Yes, I watch some beauty bloggers. All sorts of educational videos - how to properly make-up, what cosmetics new appears, how to make different hairstyles. Mostly I prefer this direction, but Nikolai Sobolev and others I do not watch. - The last song that played in your headphones today? - The track " Nemesis " from the album " At least for now ", Natan Chen walks under him. I just really liked this music, so I often listen to it. - In the songs for you the main text and meaning or that the music is rocking? - The main thing is that the music should be shaken. - How do you feel about Russian rap, which is incredibly popular now? - No, no, I do not listen to Russian rap. Only foreign performers. - In that case, name the three best foreign performers in your opinion. - Beyonce, Michael Jackson ... I also like to listen to Siyu, especially the last album " This is acting ". "When I broke my hand and my foot, it was difficult" - From this year you study at the school "Sambo-70". How impressions? - Firstly, it became easier to learn, because all teachers and school management make concessions to athletes. There is no such thing that they can not let go to competitions or training. I study once a week all day long. Now I am preparing for the transfer exams in the tenth grade, which I chose. The Russian language and mathematics will be compulsory, and I will take the choice of geography and biology. - Why such a choice? - It will be necessary for me in the future, as I plan to receive higher education in the sports field. - How do your classmates react to your sporting successes? - I hardly talk with my classmates from Sambo-70, because I am engaged with teachers separately. I still do not really know my class, because I was recently transferred. But with the guys with whom she studied at the school in Izhevsk, I correspond. - You were named after Alina Kabaeva, she is your idol. Why in this case did you choose figure skating - Because my dad does hockey, and I'm not a boy, I could not go to hockey. But still it had to be connected with ice, so I was given to figure skating. - Is there a good figure skating school in Izhevsk? - Yes, there coaches put me on skates, where I started to perform my first triple jumps. Natalia Ogoreltseva, who won the Cup of Russia, the pupil of my first coach. - How and when did you learn about Eteri Tutberidze? - When Julia Lipnitskaya began to perform. I watched the video with her when she was still riding at the junior level. I watched as Zhenya skates, and speeches by Serafima Sakhanovich. Then I found out who their coach was, and I really wanted to get to her. - Now it's hard to believe that you did not manage to get to it the first time. How did it happen? V4x3 m 1504186873601 Opponent for Medvedev: we are looking forward to a new duel - I did not understand how to train and that nobody is forced. If you want to work, then you work, and if you do not want - go. It's not like this: "Let's do it!" - behind the back of the gendarme is not worth it. The problem was that I was not good enough in training. Is this the most difficult moment in your career? - Yes, there was one more when I broke my arm and leg. It was complicated. I came to the Spartakiad with a broken arm and broke my leg in these competitions. - Did you injure your arm during training? - Yes, it happened because I constantly fell in training when I was learning jumps. At first I had just a big hematoma in the wrist area, and then I, apparently, somehow fell down badly, and there was a fracture. But now all the injuries are behind, I completely recovered. - To strictness and strictness Tutberidze immediately got used to or needed time for adaptation? - At first I was very afraid of her. And now there is a small fear. If she went out on the ice, and I was already rolling around at that time, my heart began to pound wildly. This I will remember for a lifetime. Although it is already quieter, of course. We began to communicate more, understand each other better. "I SEEN THE DISCOVERED SHIRT DIFFERENCE" - What was your impression of Moscow after moving from Izhevsk? - Of course, there is such a feeling: "Moscow, wow!" But too fussy this city. When I came to Izhevsk after Moscow, it seemed to me that everyone around was slow, as if in a matrix. But then I rest from the rabid Moscow rhythm. - Your father (Ilnaz Zagitov - Editor's note) is now training the club of the Higher Hockey League "Izhstal". Do you follow each other's success with your father? - Of course, I always watch live broadcasts of Izhstal matches. My dad constantly asks me: "Well, did you look?". "In that case, for certain, remember how Dad played." It was not so long ago. - Yes, I remember how my mother and I watched the matches, when Izhstal played in the final of the NHL, we just jumped on our nerves, very worried. - A match in the semifinals, where Izhstal and the THC fought in full force, including coaches - Andrei Razin and Alexei Zhdahin, also saw? V4x3 m 1426558314021 "Izhstal": music of Razin, words of Zagitov - Yes, I did. I think that, of course, coaches should not fight with each other. And so, at us then in the ice palace hung the torn and bloody shirt of Andrey Razin. - Have you ever tried to get out with a stick on the ice? - I always thought: "Well, what's there?" Sticks, well, play and play, nothing complicated. " And then my dad and my sister came out on the ice with clubs, puck, started throwing at the gate, I immediately fell to my knees, I tore myself up. Only after that I realized how difficult it is to play hockey. - Behind other hockey leagues - KHL, NHL watch? - When I was in Izhevsk, my dad and I always watched hockey. He explained the rules to me, told me what the "one-on-one way out" was, I asked him something. In general, now I will distinguish the throw from the face-off. And the most exciting and exciting in hockey is, of course, bullets. Tags |

![]() he’s only 18 years old. But leading up to the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics, the spotlight will be brightly shining on U.S. National Figure Skating Champ Karen Chen, who hopes to qualify for Team USA and bring home a medal or two. Despite her rigorous training schedule, Chen took time this year to pen an autobiography, Finding the Edge. The book tells the inspirational story of overcoming obstacles and staying on course and features a foreword by her hero, skating icon Kristi Yamaguchi, who calls Chen “an inspiring role model for anyone chasing a dream.” Here is an excerpt from the book where Chen reveals how she overcame a back injury and turned pain into something positive. Now, what most people don’t know, what I’ve never told anyone before, is that I suffer from a chronic, and at times debilitating, back condition. My whole life, I’d been able to stretch and I was very flexible, especially in my back, which helped me execute spins and spirals from a very young age. Then, a few years ago, sometime after I broke my foot that day in Riverside, this back injury flared up. I’ve seen many doctors for it, and I’ve gotten different opinions. Some say I was born with the problem, others say I must have had an accident when I was younger that triggered it. Basically, my lower vertebrae sometimes slip forward and backward because the bones are slightly cracked. When I arch my back in certain ways, bone pushes against nerve, and pain shoots down my legs and back. I’ve had doctors tell me not to arch my back, but I have to arch my back in order to compete and execute certain moves. So you can see my dilemma. When I was initially diagnosed, I was so worried about my spine and so nervous about the pain that I was tense all the time. And that tension made everything worse. I was tight and my muscles were constantly seizing, which only intensified the sharp pain radiating from my back down through to my legs. I decided I needed to be careful and play it safe, not pushing it so far that even normal activities would hurt my back. In training, when I’d run through my programs, I only performed basic movements. For example, if it was a spiral, I wouldn’t lift my legs as high. I toned everything way down. As you know, I managed to win bronze at nationals in 2015. But my performances grew more and more inconsistent. How could I expect myself to hit positions in competition if I never did them in practice? That’s not how athletes train. Training halfway is not the proper way to train. I’m being lazy. Finally I had to have a conversation with my doctor. “You have this problem,” he said, “but worrying about it won’t make it better. And arching your back isn’t going to make it any worse.” Champions figure out a way to persist. And in order to help my back, I added more Pilates and core stability work to my off-ice training. All those core muscles help hold my vertebrae in position. If my core was strong, the vertebrae weren’t as likely to slip around and cause further problems. Initially, my back pain was scary and I dealt with a lot of fear. But my only choice was to figure out a way to overcome the fear. I tried avoiding it—which didn’t work. It was only after I embraced it that I found a breakthrough. My back condition forced me to strengthen other areas of my body, which made me more powerful overall. In my weakness, I found strength. |

Karen Chen was the first female U.S. skater not named Gracie Gold or Ashley Wagner to win a national title in five years, when she took the title in 2017. The win propelled her to her first Worlds team, where she finished fourth in her 2017 debut.![]() What's your favorite memory of the Olympics? My favorite memory is watching Yuna Kim win her Olympic title at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. What are some of your favorite movies? Harry Potter, Up, Finding Dory, and La La Land. What television shows do you enjoy watching? Friends, and Thundermans on Nickelodeon Who has influenced you the most in your career? My parents weren't athletes; however, they are always there to support me no matter how difficult and frustrating things got. If it wasn't for their love, support, and encouragement I would be where I am today. Kristi Yamaguchi has also helped me so much. She has done so much more than just support me financially; she has continued to support me despite those rough times in the past. I couldn't be here if it wasn't for her and I truly can't thank her enough for her generosity and support. Have you ever been seriously injured? How did you come back from those injuries? I have suffered from many injuries in my career. I've had broken my right ankle twice (once when I was 9 and again when I was 13) and I have also dealt with a lot of foot/ arch pain, hip pain, and back pain. Having practically no arches in my feet, my body is practically a disaster waiting to happen. Although the whole process was very frustrating, I had to really work with my physical therapist to get healthy and strong. Yet all these ankle injuries, wasn't in my opinion the most difficult to overcome. The most difficult injury I had to deal with was when I started having a lot of back pain and nerve pain down my leg because I had spondylolisthesis. After finding out about this spine "defect" it was really hard for me to trust my body. I constantly would doubt myself and was always afraid to arch my back because I knew I would feel pain in my lower back and leg. However, gradually I was able to overcome this fear and keep pushing forwards with everything I got. Do you work with a sports psychologist? What is that process like? Yes. Working with a sport physiologist really helped me realize all the doubts I have floating in my head, and how these doubts have a negative influence to my performance ability as well as my confidence. What's your biggest fear while at a competition? My biggest fear when it comes to competing is being afraid. I know I don't skate/perform well when I'm afraid and scared to make mistakes. But it still happens to me every now and then. I strive to be fearless what I compete, because that's when I am able to show what I'm truly capable of doing. Do you have any lucky charms? I wear a rabbit-shaped jade necklace around my neck everywhere I go. It's something that was given to me when I was born, but I didn't start wearing it until I broke my foot when I was 9. It was from that moment on that I've worn this necklace to "protect me" and "keep me safe." Can you speak any other languages? I speak Mandarin Chinese quite fluently, however I'm not that great at reading nor writing Chinese. I also can understand Taiwanese, which was something that no one ever taught me, but I figured it had to do with growing up in Taiwan for quite a while. What would you be doing if you weren't an athlete? If I wasn't an athlete, I feel like I would either be a full time dancer or an artist. Original Source |

![]() - What is a crack in the metatarsal bone of the foot and why does it appear most often? - a question to the doctor-traumatologist-orthopaedist Alexey Kirichenko. - I have been practicing the treatment of such traumas for many years, I will immediately say that the term "crack" is not used in orthopedics, they speak of the "incomplete fracture" that occurs, most often, in children. In case of damage to the fifth metatarsal bone, the mechanism of injury is a direct traumatic effect. That is, a person podvorachivaet leg, stumbling on a step, or jumping from a height. Often in professional athletes, bone fractures in general and metatarsal bones, in particular, are due to excessive loads, which lead to the bone losing strength and at some point with a relatively small load breaks down. - Is such a fracture immediately felt? - Given the emotional uplift of the athlete, he can immediately not feel the pain. It takes several hours, and then the leg starts to hurt and sweat. - How sensitive is this injury to the athlete? - Fractures of the fifth metatarsal bone are several types. In the simple case of about four weeks, this fracture will heal and another two weeks will be required to restore the training regime. If the fracture is of a stressful character, then in sport a tactic of short-term rigid fixation and early mobilization without support is developed-the development of movements and muscle strength and massage. The prognosis of healing in stress fractures is less unambiguous - cases of delayed consolidation and non-loss are not uncommon. - And what happens in a situation when the athlete learned about such a break, but still decided to continue training and participate in competitions? What are the consequences of this? - Catastrophic consequences do not come, sooner or later it will heal. The fact is that in the conditions of a fracture the effectiveness of trainings and athlete performances will suffer significantly: there may come a time when the leg fails and turns up, the maneuver or push will be worse than expected. They say that the "head is smarter" - within the framework of protective behavior, it can make it so that the athlete puts the load not as he wants and falls. It does not hurt, but in the end the performance will not be as successful as expected. If the load remains, the fracture can turn into a false joint and the effective foot support will fall. - If there is a cast on the leg, does this mean that something serious is already going on with the leg? How long does it take to recover? - Athletes are treated such a fracture is not quite the same as ordinary people. They strive to fix the damaged segment for a short period of time, and then they begin to "develop" the forced order - to restore the strength of muscles and the volume of movements, avoiding supporting weights - this is called functional treatment. The timing of immobilization in this case is determined only by the doctor. However, not all experts adhere to the optimistic forecast. There is an opinion that trainings and speeches are excluded in principle at any fracture because of the severe pain syndrome, especially if it is on the right working leg. - This is a rather insidious injury, - says the Honored Doctor of Russia Yuri Vasilkov . - Faced himself in his practice with a similar repeatedly, this is the so-called stress fracture. As if the athlete did not deceive himself and lulled, any crack is a turning point. Hope only for the young age of athletes and the qualifications of our trauma doctors. For the current season it can be treated, but from the crack still can not go anywhere, it may have to operate. - Is it possible to not leave the operation in any way? "Maybe it can, or maybe not, then it'll just have to be operated on." Of course, I would like to wish my wife good luck, because she said in the old days: "an athlete by the grace of God," Medvedev does what other people just think about. - How long does it usually take to recover? - Within 3-4 weeks after the termination of training, as a rule, everything becomes clear. If everything grows together, it's fine, and if not, you'll have to skip the season. - Can you train during this period? - The athlete has two healthy arms and a leg, so you can, of course, give them loads and maintain physical fitness, but focus on what is acceptable for the injured leg. |
