Russian figure skater Elena Radonova shared her expectations from the women's tournament at the European Championships in Moscow. - With the ideal execution of Medvedev's and Zagitova's programs, who will the judges give preference to? - I think, to Gene Medvedev. She has so many titles, for several seasons she shows stable skating. Of course, I really want to watch this fight. Looking forward to it. - Zagitova has the most complicated programs. Psychologically, it puts pressure on her? - Difficult question. I think that it will not put pressure on her - it's her main thing to do hers. But rivals should think about it. - Medvedev has the first start after injury. How well did it recover? - Of course, we will all hope that it will be restored to the end. These starts will now show how well prepared she is. - How will the pedestal look at the European Championships, and who of the Russians will go to the Olympics in Pyeongchang? - I think the composition will not change much. Now it is difficult to say who will be in the top three at the European Championships. I do not know in what form Zhenya. But, probably, I would give the first place to Medvedev, the second to Zagitova, and the third - to Caroline Costner, "Radionova said on the TV channel" Match TV ". |

Canadian figure skater Caitlin Osmond , most likely, will not be able to qualify for the 2018 Olympic Games unless she demonstrates unmistakable rumors, RIA Novosti said silver medalist of the 2012 World Cup Alena Leonova . Silver medalist of the 2017 World Cup Osmond took second place at the Canadian Championship in January, gaining 218.73 points and losing to Gabriel Dailman (229.78). "Osmond on the last three starts unsuccessfully performed in an arbitrary program, including badly rolled back at her national championship. If she does not perform purely at the Olympic Games, no one will put her high on the podium .And if the shows show good, then for her name throw points in the components, but for this it needs to be rolled out perfectly, even without small blots, "Leonova said over the phone. One of the main competitors of Russian athletes Evgeniya Medvedeva, Alina Zagitova and Maria Sotskova will be Japanese Satoko Miyahara and Kaori Sakamoto. "Sakamoto is a very strong girl in the sense that, I think she does not get tired at all in the program." In my opinion, they can roll back the three random ones without interruption and will still smile, "said Leonova." She is a functionally strong athlete, which allows she has to perform complicated elements at the theater, but everything is fine with the technology, but I think that she will not give generously to her components, and Miyahara is very unstable, the trauma played a role, so her results can not be foreseen either. " The US Championship this season won Brady Tennell, whose breakthrough came as a surprise. "With this dark horse, I competed at Skate America, a very good girl, later it will show its strength, but it is unlikely to happen at the Olympics." She will do hers, but probably will not claim a pedestal, "Leonova added. |

![]() 10 days before the first set of medals for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Championship launches the "Hard Leadership" column. The Russian Olympic team lost most of its leaders, those who had to loudly announce themselves and the country at the Games in Pyeongchang . In their place now have to come to others. Even if some six months ago they could not think that they would drag the main burden of responsibility on themselves. The first hero of the rubric is figure skater Alina Zagitova . Passion grew into a profession Alina Zagitova was not quite typical for the figure skater childhood. Actually, the fact that it had it already speaks volumes. Alina began to really figure figure skating from the age of seven, although most girls start much earlier. Zagitova at first did not perceive sport as something serious. A hobby, nothing more. The Russian woman did not hesitate to admit that she threw this case six or seven times. It is not surprising that Zagitova had practically no success at the competitions until she was 10 years old. Without any respect. Now Zagitov is Russia's main hope? And how else would you name a skater, who defeated a two-time world champion in 15 years? And what should Medvedev do now? Everything changed the transition to Eteri Tutberidze . Alina then still lived in her native Izhevsk and after the arrival to the competitions in Moscow she decided to ask the group for a well-known coach. The last day of the tournament was on, and Zagitova had to go to the station to catch a train to Izhevsk. However, she still managed to persuade my mother, who was with her at that moment, to go to the other end of Moscow and to appear Tutberidze. Everything turned out all right. Alina not only managed to please the coach, but also managed to get on the train. Double kill. I almost parted with the coach Moscow was not built in a day. Despite the fact that Tutberidze immediately saw Zagitova's talent, it was not the first time she had managed to adjust the young Alina to work. There was even a moment when the coach simply kicked out the young figure skater from her group. "Alina Zagitova had a childlike attitude to work: today I will, tomorrow I will not. I kicked her out. She had another chat with a coach for a couple of months, no one forced her. Then her parents were going to leave back to Izhevsk, and then Alina realized that she could not without ice. " The Russian woman was very worried about this moment, but managed to get together and change attitudes. When Alina went with her parents and a bouquet of flowers to say goodbye to Tutberidze, Eteri Georgievna offered to try again. Zagitova was in the seventh heaven with happiness and had no right to miss this chance. Victory for victory In many ways, that situation with Tutberidze was a turning point in Zagitova's career. In August 2016, she made her debut at the junior Grand Prix stage in France, which immediately won. In Slovenia, she took bronze and this was already considered a failure. A young Russian woman immediately raised the bar high. In the final Grand Prix Zagitova simply destroyed rivals and became the owner of three world records for the sum of points in junior competitions. After she won the silver medal at the Russian Championship that same year, it became clear that the country received a great figure skater. The first international performances at the adult level in Zagitova took place in September 2017, when she confidently won the Lombardy Cup. The test of the pen on the stages of the adult Grand Prix turned out to be no less convincing. Having performed well in China and France, Alina then won the Grand Prix Final. And followed and the championship of Russia. Yes, there was not invincible at that time Evgenia Medvedeva , but does this detract from Zagitova's merits? European Championships in Moscow, she won already with a direct rivalry with Medvedev. Watching the struggle of our beauties was incredibly entertaining. Now Zagitova is the hope and support of Russia. At 15 years, the whole country watches for her, and there is confidence that Alina will not fail. |

At first glance, the male part of the fans of figure skating remains only to sympathize. After all, instead of shining in Phenchkhan beauty Elena Ilinykh , performing in ice dancing, is looking for a new partner, and a beautiful single woman Anna Pogorilaya is treating her back. Charming American Gracie Gold misses the season because of psychological problems, and her compatriot incendiary Ashley Wagner unexpectedly could not be selected for the Olympics . And even at the last turn because of the non-disclosure of the IOC, there were aesthetic losses: see the sports couples tournament without the refined Ksenia Stolbova , and the dance one - without the dazzling Alexandra Stepanova. However, it is not too much to be upset: there will still be plenty of beauty on the Korean ice!![]() "Oh, what a woman!" - and I want to say about the Olympic champion Vancouver in ice dancing in a pair with Scott Moir. Passionate and brilliant Canadian at the upcoming Olympic Games will be the battle for the main award in ice dancing with the French airy charm of Papadakis and Seasero. ![]() Two-time champion of the world can hardly be remembered immediately among the bright beauties of figure skaters because she does not flaunt in frank dresses and does not spread her photos at the best angles. Unless I allowed myself a little flirtation in a bright red dress in last year's show room. But huge brown radiant eyes, elegance, an angelic smile and a special charm with each hire add to the skater all the new fans. ![]() Two-time world champion paired with Guillaume Sizero in French is elegant, but at the same time it is an example of classical, restrained and Greek beauty. One of the main intrigues of Pyeongchang is the confrontation of the pair with Scott Moir and Tessa Wirth. ![]() The appearance of an American figure skater performing in ice dancing is mysterious and unusual at the expense of light Asian notes. However, this does not help the girl on the ice: in three seasons the winners of the World Championship have turned from the first dance pair to only the third. ![]() Elegant native of Estonia, performing in pairs skating for Russia since 2014, has a miniature chiseled figure, a pleasant face and a soft gaze of beautiful brown eyes. In classical productions, performed in tandem with Alexander Enbert, Natalia is exquisite and aristocratic, but in life in a Baltic way she is calm, but she likes extreme rest, for example, jumping from the tarp. ![]() The first thought that arises at the sight of red-haired Tiffany: "How did this exotic flower find itself in the cold snowy Moscow?" "Paradise bird," - says about her essence partner John. A native British with a unique French charm on the ice and attracts a glance. ![]() Bright, emotional and charming world champion in 2014 paired with Luka Lanotte left Moscow in January disappointed: for the first time in five seasons the pair was out of the pedestal of the European championship. "Luke and I still have not lost the taste for victories," Cappellini admitted after a short program at the European Championships. However, in Pyeongchang, it will hardly be possible to quench it: the first two places have already been booked, and a fierce struggle is coming for the bronze, in which the chances of the Italians are incredibly small. |

![]() With this year's Winter Olympics just one week away, now is the time to make sure you've brushed up on all your winter sports knowledge. Though figure skating is among the oldest of the Winter Olympic Games sports, it's not exactly the easiest to follow. If you're one of the many, many bewildered fans like me who claps at a score without a clue as to why or how a competitor arrived at that number, we're here to help. Here's what you need to know about how figure skating is scored. The International Skating Union (ISU), the body that oversees Olympic skating judging, takes this stuff pretty seriously. After a scandal in the 2002 Winter Olympics, per Mental Floss, the ISU overhauled the old scoring system to adopt the International Judging System (IJS), which is what we now see. We'll get into the nitty-gritty in a minute. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrFwokp3z48 As former ice dancer and coach Justin Ross told NBC San Diego: "Ice dancing is more about the quality of the edges. It's about the character, the passion of just the pure ice skating." When it comes to scoring, judges will be looking especially to see that both partners display immaculate synchronicity not only on their movements and footwork, but skating speed and angle. They'll also be looking for elegance, flow, and other dance elements. By contrast, pairs ice skating is judged more on the jumps, spins, lifts, and throws. (Ice dancing doesn't include overhead lifts.) And if they still all just look like fancy twirls on ice to you, you can always double-check the Olympic program to be sure which sport you're watching. https://twitter.com/aubreykmiller/status/959232526035202048 In case you were wondering, the ISU pens literally hundreds of rules. One of the regulations in the 2016 regulation booklet — which is 147 pages — is that skaters are not allowed to bow to the audience prior to their performance. Though the rules were changed in 2015 to allow mens, ladies, and pairs skaters to use music with lyrics, this Olympics is the first one we'll get to see that in action. (Ice dancers have always been allowed to.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgnjb9e2rZU There are two general components to scoring skating, per NBC. The first is the Technical Element Score (TES), which focuses on the execution of things like jumps and lifts. The next is the Program Component Score (PCS), which is more about the overall presentation. The skater with the highest combined score wins. Things get more complicated because there are two separate numbers, judged by two separate panels, that make up the TES, Mental Floss explains. First, there is a five-judge technical panel that identifies each move attempted and assigns it the ISU-standard point value. Next, there's a nine-judge execution panel which assigns a number between -3 and +3 for each of those specific moves performed. These totals are added together to achieve the TES. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJTPhun2ZSY Then again, this is the Olympics, and the skaters are damn good. That's where that second panel's score comes in: to assign a quality value to each move. So it's all a numbers game. A skater is looking to pull out an impressive array of challenging attempts, and ideally, nail most of them. That same nine-judge panel also determines the PCS, which is evaluated based on things like aesthetics and style, footwork, and the cohesion of the overall performance (which includes music, costume, and the actual skating). After determining the TES and PCS, they are added together to get the Total Segment Score (TSS). A skater's final score is whatever the TSS is, after accounting for any point-deducting penalties such as going overtime. If you've read this far and are not crying or questioning your math abilities, congratulations. You're more than ready for the Winter Games! |

The journalist Elena Vaitsekhovskaya shared her expectations from the performance of Russian figure skaters in Pyeongchang-2018. "After Lipnitskaya lost her personal Olympic tournament in Sochi, her participation in both programs of the" commander "was called a mistake. In fact, everything was exactly the opposite: the decision to put Lipnitskaya in team competitions for both programs was seen as a very correct tactical move: two great hire did not just make Julia a heroine of team competitions, but allowed yesterday's junior to sharply raise the second rating. The reason for the defeat was that the debutante just burned out in anticipation of the start, was not psychologically ready. Without this, it is very likely that she would have risen to the personal Olympic pedestal instead of one of the Sochi winners. In the similar status of the debutants of the Games, both of the most likely sportswomen, two-time world champion Evgeny Medvedev and Alina Zagitova, who are the winners of the Grand Prix final and the European Championships, are currently in the personal tournament. But if Zhenya already has a solid experience of adult performances, 15-year-old Alina, in fact, repeats the path traversed by Lipnitskaya: she also needs to use all the opportunities to maximize the second rating (in this aspect, she is still inferior to Medvedeva). From a technical point of view, the superiority of both Russians over rivals is obvious and, moreover, has been repeatedly confirmed by the results of a sufficiently large number of competitions. The purely psychological task comes to the fore: keep the willingness to compete, not to burn out from an overabundance of emotions, while the personal tournament will begin under the curtain of the Games - more than ten days after the command. By Olympic standards it's an eternity, "wrote Vaitsekhovskaya. |

At the Olympics in Pyeongchang in women's singles skating we will have a real "Dream Tim" - Eugene Medvedeva, Alina Zagitova and Maria Sotskova are able to occupy the whole pedestal. And if we had the opportunity to expand the quota, then Russia would have more pretenders to the place in the first six. What is the reason for the grandeur of this discipline of figure skating in Russia? "SE" is trying to answer this difficult question. Foreign journalists constantly ask: "Where in Russia is such a scattering of talent and competition in women's single skating?" At the recent European Championships, their versions were voiced by Evgeny Medvedev and Alina Zagitova . According to Zhenya, the reason is in excellent conditions for training. Alina was generally surprised by such a statement of the question: "It seems to me that the competition in our sport in Russia has always been and never went away," said the figure skater. Some thought Zagitova might seem somewhat naive: they say, she would see our female "loner" in the first few years after the end of Irina Slutskaya's career ! Evgeni Medvedev and Alina Zagitova. THEY GO TO THE OLYMPICS. AND THIS IS FOR SURE COMPETITION AS HAPPINESS However, if you look at the state of affairs with the eyes of a 15-year-old figure skater, you can not make other conclusions. After all, in 2009, when Zagitova was 7 years old and she trained in Izhevsk, the first two places in the adult championship of the country were taken by 12-year-old Adeline Sotnikova and 13-year-old Elizaveta Tuktamysheva . Then they were joined by Polina Shelepen , Julia Lipnitskaya , Elena Radionova and Anna Pogorilaya . And at the debut championship of Russia among juniors in February, 2016 Alina became only the ninth. This last season Zagitova managed to move into the championship reality, and in this - to get comfortable in it already at an adult level. But in 2006, everything looked incredibly pessimistic. Golden for all our skaters Olympic Games in Turin for the long-term leader Irina Slutskaya turned out to be bronze-bitter: the Olympic dream never came true, and in November Irina announced the end of her career. It seemed that the victorious page of the history of the Russian women's single skating was completed. And indeed, the history of the reign of the Italian Carolina Costner in Europe began, as well as the confrontation between the Korean woman Yuna Kim and Japanese Mao Asad at the world championships. The medals of the European championship we had to wait for 7 years, when Adelina Sotnikova and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva debuted at the adult level. Young stars, the hopes of the Sochi Olympics won silver and bronze - it was not so easy to beat Costner. "The great leap of Russian women's figure skating that we are witnessing now happened, first of all, thanks to Adeline and Lisa, when they intersect in tournaments, they so gambly start to" spur on "each other that to look at this pleasure "- said in December 2010 after winning for her student junior finals" Grand Prix "coach Sotnikova Elena Buyanova . ![]() GIRLS STRONGER CHARACTER And in parallel, another victorious vector began to manifest itself - the first two places in the junior finals of the "Grand Prix" -2011/12 were won by Eteri Tutberidze's pupils - Julia Lipnitskaya and Polina Shelepen. Although, as the group's choreographer Alexei Zheleznyakov says , it all started even earlier: "I came to the team of Eteri Georgievna exactly 10 years ago when she started working at the Belyaevo rink." Then she had a group of 15 people, with boys and girls equally, among them - Julia Lipnitskaya, Zhenya Medvedeva, Adyan Pitkeev , Maurice Kvitilashviliand Polina Shelepen. Now everyone really wants to get to Tutberidze. If we talk about ice shows, which then began to go on TV, then, of course, children drew in them something for themselves and filled their inner world, realizing that before them is not just a sports program, but a whole play with a plot. " "In general, boys lack character, they grow in more hothouse conditions than our generation," continues Zheleznyakov. "We were doing something, fighting, and just like that, and for girls." Parents plowed from morning till night, they were not for us, and this tempered the character very much.As a result of 10 years of work in the Tutberidze group, I came to the conclusion that the girls are now stronger in character, and even Eteri herself is a person with a very strong inner core, and this is passed on to the athletes. Shelepen was the leader of our group, everyone followed her. axis: Eteri rod, plus a fanatical approach to work: no skipping workouts, holiday, rest, only plowing! " Zheleznyakov notes that the concentration of almost all the talents of one specialist is in some way a regularity: "Today's Russian single skating is very similar to rhythmic gymnastics, in which there is Irina Wiener-Usmanov ." Etieri also took the lead, while the most talented children from other schools will aspire to the group with the highest results, but I do not think that because of this, other coaches and their pupils will lose their hands: there will still be a desire to reach the same heights as Zhenya Medvedeva. " ![]() BUSINESS IS NOT ONLY IN SOCHI The flowering of Russian women's single skating is not only the work of Tutberidze's team. The double champion of the world among juniors and the bronze medalist of the World Cup became the pupil of Inna Goncharenko Elena Radionova, now transferred to Elena Buyanova. The participant of the Olympiad in Pyeongchang Maria Sotskova, also training with Buyanova, prepared and led to high results Svetlana Panova . 10-year-old Elizaveta Tuktamyshevu at regional competitions noticed and brought up to the world and European champion Alexei Mishin . Anna Pogorilu, who performed at four world championships, which became a bronze medalist, as well as a multiple prize-winner of European championships - Anna Tsareva. All these are specialists with sometimes diametrical views on the training process. Maybe this is all the magic of preparation for home Olympic Games in Sochi? "It's a big mistake to think like that," believes Alexei Mishin. The coach is generally inclined to evaluate what is happening in a philosophical way: "All the phenomena in nature are oscillatory, and at different historical stages there are circumstances." Before, there was a group in which Yagudin , Plushenko , Urmanov and Tataurov trained , they could defeat the entire men's team of the world. now the team of Eteri Tutberidze can just as well defeat the entire women's team of the world. There are objective and subjective moments here.First , a whole scattering of talents, take the same Alena Kostornaya and Sasha Trusov. And secondly, talents are at the moment at the creative potential of the coach. After one of the victories of Liza Tuktamysheva, one of our specialists told me: "This is a new word in the world figure skating!" And now this word is spoken by another coach. " However, any outrageous competition is not only an increase in the overall level, a passion for struggle and an incredibly fascinating sight. This is also those who at some stage did not survive it, and was outside the distribution of medals. It may appear that a new technically stronger generation will easily sweep away current leaders, including two-time world champion Evgeny Medvedev, in the near future, but this is far from the fact. ![]() DO NOT SWIFT ATTENTION AT 12 YEARS "If there is no force majeure, I think that the character and efficiency will allow Medvedev to ride and after 18 years, the young ones will not be trampled on," says Alexei Zheleznyakov. "Take the same to Caroline Costner, Mao Asad and Javier Fernandez . jumping quadruple jumps.Perhaps, many of the programs will soon have quadruple jumps and triple axels. The main thing is not to cross the line so that the girls do not start flying out because of injuries. " Can it happen that because of the incredible competition, some of our girls just stop fighting, which in time will lead to regress? Mishin believes that if this happens, it will not be soon: "At the same time, did someone after Sochi expect that we will not be the absolute hegemon in pair skating?" And the fact that at the post-Olympic world championships the pair of Ilyins / Katsalapov will not enter "And even after the triumphant season with Tuktamysheva, I did not even doubt that we would put a solo triple axle in an arbitrary program in the cascade, and then a month later she came to the rink, and we could hardly make a triple riteberger or Salchis ". "I have seen times when a sportswoman could grow up for a certain period of time, and then another figure skater came to the competition," Mishin continues. "But when there is some talent reserve, such cataclysms are not terrible. year-old girls? Our Federation of figure skating is a very sensible approach, plus the sporting principle: at the time its violation, in fact, led Maxim Kovtun to collapse when he was thrown out to the level he did not reach in 2013. it is important not to switch ь all attention to 12-13-year-old girls, and keep for the national team such figure skaters as Sotnikov and Tuktamyshev. " |
