Figure skater Evgeny Medvedev will pay more money to his new Canadian coach Brian Orser than the previous coach Eteri Tutberidze.

"I told them (to Medvedeva and her mom) that in the first six months the expenses are likely to be more than usual," Orsera quotes the Globetrotting portal. The Canadian coach stressed that the Russian figure skater will have to seriously work on the choreography and slip.

Revealed the reason for Medvedev's departure from the trainer
From the coach Medvedev run athletes
The representative of the Federation of figure skating in Russia (FFK) Olga Ermolina noted that the federation is not yet able to disclose the details of the agreement between Orser and Medvedev.

The fact that the two-time world champion, the silver medalist of the 2018 Olympics Evgeny Medvedev leaves his mentor Eteri Tutberidze, became known on Monday, May 7. The press reported some unsightly details of the parting of the star athlete and her trainer: she allegedly did not answer Tutberidze's calls and messages, and learned about leaving Yevgenia Tutberidze from the media.

Meanwhile, on the website of the FFK , Medvedev's appeal appeared in which she warmly responded about her former mentor: "I want to thank Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze and the entire coaching staff for a long, fruitful, sometimes very difficult work ... These people gave me a life in figure skating and led to such high results that I can rightly be proud of. "

Tutberidze trains the Olympic champion in 2018 15-year-old Alina Zagitova. Evgenia probably felt deprived and decided to go to Orser in the hope that he would help her to take new heights.

Brian Orser is 56 years old, he is a two-time silver medalist of the Olympic Games in men's single skating, the 1987 world champion. After the end of sports career he became a coach. He brought up such stars as the Olympic champion in 2010 Kim Yun, two-time Olympic champion (2014 and 2018) Yudzuru Khan, two-time world champion (2015 and 2016) Javier Fernandez.

Prizewinner of the World and European championships Elena Radionova - about the past, present and future.

- Lena, last season you had a real chance to become an Olympic team. How do you think that went wrong?

- Yes, I know that I could get on the team. Together with the trainers, we did an unrealistically big and fruitful work. If I compare with the last seasons of my sports career, then I never trained like that. I really "plowed" and kept myself in the fist. But no luck. It just did not work out. It's not gone. Although in training everything was done - cascades with an oyler, flipper, rieberger ...

Before the Russian championship, I had a minor injury. I woke up in the morning and felt a pain in my leg. Under the knee a "bag" was formed ... We could not understand for a long time what was going on. Naturally, this is somewhat knocked out. Although before the Grand Prix, "Shanghai Trophy" I already rolled the program cleanly and calmly.

It is a pity, of course, that it did not happen as well to speak at the Russian Championship. Error on the rhythm player in the short program. When I went, I also thought how I could not get in the trail, which was left after the warm-up when the triple rtigerger jumped. Also has got. And when you get in the trail, but there's nothing you can do.

In general, after a short program it became clear that, no matter how I rolled the random one, it would be difficult to get into the team. Naturally, I fought to the end, but I knew in my head what was going on. One jump cost everything. Especially, a mistake in the short program.

Posted Image

Naturally, from all that happened I made conclusions. At first, different thoughts came into my head, I did not go for a drive. The state was so incomprehensible. I did not understand what to do, how to be. Do not exercise, do not want anything. Devastation. No thoughts. Just lived a life without any events, some reasoning or reflection ...

-- And then?

- And then began to slowly come to life. In the show "Art On Ice" went. The first exit on the ice was exciting, because after the Russian championship I did not perform and for a long time did not feel such an atmosphere. But gradually I got involved. Every day I felt more and more confident. Even at the box office I could fix something. She watched her speeches and analyzed. And in the end she already received a real buzz from riding, then, as the public takes.

It was a useful experience for me. I began to think, what else would I do? Discovered something new. But at some point I realized that I really missed training, competitions. I realized that I was not ready to finish with the sport. In any case, as long as I want, I can and will go for a drive. Moreover, I have the motivation, the strength to add to my skating.

- When did you start full-fledged training?

- After the championship of Russia, all this time I more or less supported the form. To perform in the show, this was enough. Now we have started the usual training. At first they were engaged in slipping, then they restored jumps.

We are thinking about new programs. One of them, or maybe both, will be delivered by Peter Chernyshev. Although it is possible that another program will do some kind of program.

With the choice of music, we are in the process. We have a little stalled, because there are different options, and we must come to a common opinion. One likes it, another then. But I think we need to find something new and interesting. Moreover, this is not an Olympic season, where everyone is afraid to take a step to the right, step to the left. Now you can already experiment calmly.

Lena2

- And in what way would you like to try it yourself?

- Honestly, I do not have that. I'm starting from music. If I like music, then it's already possible to come up with an image, a story ... You need to find music that would go to the tips of your fingers, and roll under it, because if music does not like, then whatever you think up, you will not have such a connection with it, one whole.

- Have you watched the Olympic Games?

-- Yes. I even had to comment. But I had a show at that time. In the breaks watched the last warm-up of girls and boys. Yes, it was a shame that you are sitting on this side of the screen, although everything could have turned out differently. But, on the other hand, what to torment yourself, if it has already happened? So, it was necessary and still ahead. I do not give up. I have a positive attitude. I really want to compete, because there was a long break. But I traveled the world. New acquaintances. New impressions. From all it is necessary to take advantage.

- What are your immediate plans?

- I do not know yet whether I will have a vacation or not. As the trainers say. In principle, I'm not particularly grieved by the desire to go somewhere to rest. So, if there is no vacation, I will not be particularly upset.

Then I will go to the show to Denis Tenu, and from there immediately to the collection. Just at the time of the show I will type the form, because without prior preparation it is not easy to get involved right away. Last year it was hard. The load is high. At first, everything hurt. But I was involved.

At the meeting we will discuss with Elena Germanovna, from where we will begin the season. Probably from Russian starts or Challengers. It is necessary to refresh everything in memory, to feel the competitive atmosphere.

- In your group there were new sportswomen, what do you think about this?

- To be honest, I do not care. I, apparently, left the age when I was worried about the arrival of new athletes in the group. Now I understand that everything depends only on me, my desire and my skating. I have good contact with Elena Germanovna. We understand each other. Need to work.

- Do you continue studying at the RSUFC?

- I finish the second course, I turn to the third. Over the past months, my worldview has changed a lot. In my life, there have been and are many different events, of which it is too early to speak. But I found something new and interesting for myself. But all this later. In the meantime, sports and figure skating are my top priority.

Drama in Russian figure skating. Evgenia Medvedev leaves his coach Eteri Tutberidze. The drama is almost family. Why? Yes, because professional skaters spend more time with the coach than with the family, than with the mother. Medvedev passes to the Canadian coach, who at the last Olympics with his wards in men's skating took "gold" and "bronze". But Tutberidze is also a super trainee. She took "gold" and "silver" with Zagitova and Medvedeva.

The make-up in four hands: the brushes flutter, plojka, on knees - the favorite toy in the Japanese style. Evgeni Medvedev is preparing to go out on the ice. And this fuss is soothing. After all, the main hype around her now is in the news. The figure skater left her mentor, Eteri Tutberidze. It would seem that an ordinary case in sports. But the non-sporting public is seething on both sides of the ocean.

Posted Image

Few doubted that at the Olympics in Korea, Russian figure skaters will have "gold" and "silver." Everyone was wondering how they would be divided by Tutberidze's wards: Evgeny Medvedev and Alina Zagitova were both impeccably delivered. But technically Zagitova's program with the jumps transferred to the second part was "more expensive". The ice rang, tears broke out, and Medvedev's "silver", as it now turns out, became a point in the relationship with the coach.

"Yes it's true. And my mentor is now Brian Orser, "said Yevgenia Medvedeva to reporters.

"There were talks that, in general, she did not take any result of the Olympics. The whole team talked with her, tried to make out why it was the second place, and not the first, why did not have one point. She is a moral leader, it's good. I grew up a moral leader girl, that's why there is no second place for her ", commented on the reports about the departure of Medvedeva coach Eteri Tutberidze.

Posted Image

"Can I not talk about Zhenya, please? I can not comment on this, because it's not my situation, "skater Alina Zagitova refused to answer questions.

This was silent, but in Pyeongchang, Yevgeny Medvedev was troubled by a trauma. Not a long-lasting fracture of the foot, but, according to sources close to the figure skater, back, spine. The doctors recommended that they refrain from training for two months after the Games. On May 7, in an exclusive interview with Channel One, the sportswoman confessed: Rehabilitation is over. Everything is decided this week.

Posted Image

"Tomorrow I will be in Germany, and there will be my medical examination, and there they will tell me whether the load is allowed to me or not yet. But I'm looking forward to tomorrow and very much hope that tomorrow everything will be all right, "she said.

And now she came back from Germany with good news: the dynamics are positive, sports load can be given. You can jump!

Medvedev's decision to leave, but where to go! To the Canadian coach Brian Orser, who, incidentally, deduced the last two men's men's single skating at the last Olympics. Yuzuru Khan took "gold", Javier Fernandez - "bronze".

Posted Image

"He's a terrific man, he's the best coach now. He trains fantastic people who are ahead of time for many years, and if Zhenya is healthy, she will also be happy there, "says Tatyana Tarasova, Honored Coach of the USSR in figure skating.

Two schools of figure skating, two of the strongest trainers in the world are now facing. Orser and Tutberidze: he is going to study her methods in detail ...

Posted Image

"I do not think that I will be mistaken if I say that all the coaches of the world would like to understand how Eteri Tutberidze continues to supply more and more new sportswomen of this level. How does she manage it? What does she do in her training? "He says.

She intends to give him a decisive answer.

"For the moment, I have a feeling that Orser has made a challenge. Hence, somehow it hurt our results. We need to work to hurt him even more, "said Eteri Tutberidze.

Posted Image

In appearance - the usual training. Skating rink, there is a warm-up. But, as they say, there is a nuance: this is California. And, according to coach Rafael Harutyunyan, Medvedev will have to get used to the style of work here, in the West, in the West.

"There is no training, we give just recommendations and we give advice on how to train. If the athlete does not, then we do not even have the right to force him and shout, we have not taken it. I never saw her train her. If it had to be adjusted, then it will be difficult, it will be necessary to restructure, "- he says.

Posted Image

And all this takes place against the background of revolutionary changes in the system of assessments. Now, going to a difficult jump, the skater gets up to plus three points for the net, and up to minus three - for the breakdown. This figure wants to increase to five. Many people will then think: what is better, to take risks or make things easier, but better? To bring to the fore the artistry of performance.

"These changes can seriously affect the whole situation around Zhenya, because the value of multi-turn jumps will be lowered, and cleanliness and thoroughness of performance - instead of plus three you can get plus five," says the honored figure skating coach Alexei Mishin.

Posted Image

Honored coach and himself once experienced a scandalous student discord. Yevgeny Plushenko and Alexey Yagudin worked together on the rink. Fans of figure skating remember their loud confrontation. Yagudin eventually changed his mentor. And now he, co-host on the project "Ice Age", understands Medvedev like no one.

It is difficult to find skaters with such a similar sporting destiny. The turning point in the career of Alexei Yagudin occurred at the age of 18 - Medvedev is now 18. He was world champion, European champion and decided to leave his coach after the Olympics, like Medvedev. He moved to practice in North America, Evgeny Medvedev is now also moving to train, but not in the US, but in Canada.

And if we continue our next Olympics in Salt Lake City Alexei Yagudin won, after a hard four years in the fight against Yevgeny Plushenko. Perhaps, since those times the fans have not seen such a heat of ice passions. Medvedev and Zagitov: what will happen next?

Posted Image

"Anyway, someone won the Olympic Games, and some do not. I won. And if we take Zhenya and Alina, and after all we can take not only Zhenya and Alina, we can take other juniors from Eteri Tutberidze who won and dared everyone at the Junior World Championship, and they will soon come to adult skating, "says Alexey Yagudin.

So, juniors Alexander Trusova and Anna Shcherbakova already now, at 13 years old, perform jumps in four turns. Intrigue famously twists and the International Union of skaters: increase the age of entry into a big sport from 15 years to 16, 17 or even 18. The decision can be taken at one of the meetings. One thing is clear: the strongest of the admitted will win. That is, the strongest.

"You can not imagine, in me now the motivation, as never!" - says Evgenia Medvedev.

The world of figure skating is awaiting big reforms that can hit hard on Russia's positions. The meeting of the board of the International Skating Union (ISU) in Minsk with the initiative to increase the age of athletes who are allowed to adult competitions was made by the President of the US Figure Skating Association Samuel Oakse.

"The audience needs adult skiing, athletes should be at least 17-18 years old.

The current state of affairs hinders the development of competition, the popularization of our sport in other countries, reduces interest in figure skating, the attractiveness of figure skating, "said the American functionary.

The idea was supported also by the famous coach from Armenia Rafael Harutyunyan , who lives and works in the USA for a long time.

"Now everyone is just talking about jumping, and people are starting to hurt themselves. How do you want to stop them? In my opinion, there is only one way: do not allow girls to under 18 years of age to compete in adult competitions, "the Ice Network trainer said.

"Gazeta.ru" talked with well-known Russian skaters in the past, and now - with coaches Alexander Zhulin and Victoria Volchkova. Experts in general were in solidarity with their colleagues.

"It's interesting and right," Zhulin began.

"People go to look at women's skating, when the athletes have already formed and look like women. Even if they do not jump quadruple jumps,

- concluded the expert in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

"I've been thinking about this for a long time and, frankly, it's difficult for me to give an unambiguous answer.

Girls skate to 16 years, and then their career ends. On this side the age division looks correct. So we can extend the age of athletes.

, - said Volchkova .

"A woman stands against a child with a boy's body"
All experts agree that the skating of juniors and adult athletes is radically different. In this regard, according to experts, the division of figure skaters is simply necessary.

"Juniors will make more complex technical programs. So what? If you do not like adult rentals, see juniors.

You have a choice: watch jumping or women's skating. It is unfair when a woman competes with a child with a boy's body
,

- said Harutyunyan.

"Are the tendencies to reduce the age of participants negatively affect the aesthetic component of female figure skating? Naturally, that's why the age division looks logical enough.

Many athletes became Olympic champions at a young age - American Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes, as well as Russian women Julia Lipnitskaya and now Alina Zagitova.

At this age, the girls are super-flexible and super-curly, which naturally goes away with age. And if the athlete has managed to maintain these qualities, then at about 17 years old women's skating is already beginning.

I agreed that when juniors and Victoria Volchkova appeared in adult competitions, she won her first medal at the European Championships at the age of 16.

"Of course, girls in 14-15 years are still girls. The more women's solo skating starts at 17-18 years.

For example, at the Russian championship we see more junior skating than female.

If the athletes reach the age of 20, then they will look absolutely different on the ice. This suggests that graduation is still necessary, "the expert said.

In this situation, the question arises, how many years must athletes be allowed to adult competitions? Russian experts, unlike their American counterparts, do not want to change the regulations drastically. Now in adult competitions athletes from 15 years old can compete.

"It seems to me that the optimal age is 17 years. I would admit athletes from this age.

Considering how different the skiing is before and after 17 years, we, in fact, have two different kinds of sport.

Can I change the point scoring system for complex jumps instead of the age limit? I think this is not an option. These jumps are in a special scale and it does not matter who performs them, junior or adult, "Zhulin said.

"The optimal bar is 16 years. 18 - this is too much, in this case the athlete lingers in juniors long enough. It turns out that 13 and 17-year-olds will compete in one category, which is quite strange, "Volchkova noted.

Olympic champion will now return to juniors?
Russian figure skater Alina Zagitova won the Olympics in 15 years. That is, if the restrictions are adopted in the near future, the athlete will not be able to represent Russia in adult competitions. It turns out that the titled figure skater will be forced to return to the juniors. Experts believe that, in spite of the fact that a peculiar step back will look somewhat strange, there is nothing terrible in it.

"Despite the fact that Zagitova is an active Olympic champion, if the changes come into force, she will have to take a step back, ride a year in juniors and return to adult skating," said Alexander Zhulin.

"The rules should be the same for everyone. After all, you will not change your age. Therefore, Alina , despite her regalia, will have to return to juniors for some time. But I remain at the opinion that it is too much to permit performances only from the age of 18, "Volchkova noted.

The next ISU congress will be held in early June, and there may well be a decision to increase the minimum age of participants in international competitions. Zagitova turns 16 only on May 18. Thus, the Olympic champion from Russia can fall out of adult competitions for almost two years.

"Without wins of Tutberidze's wards, these conversations would not have arisen"
Obviously, the world of figure skating was pushed by the wards of the Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze to discuss the issue . And it's not even about Zagitova, but about 13-year-old Alexandra Trusova , ready to show the world a quadruple jump, or 14-year-old Alena Kostornaya, a prize-winner of the youth Grand Prix. In this connection, the question arises whether the proposal put forward is a way to deprive Russia of guaranteed victories in the international arena.

"Maybe there is some kind of oppression. It just so happened that now all the talented juniors are engaged in the group at Eteri Georgievna, "Zhulin said.

"I think that we will lose a little because of possible changes. Zagitov by the age of 18 can keep his form and continue to fight for high places. On the other hand,

if Tutberidze's wards did not win more competitions, then these discussions would not have arisen and everything would remain in place,

- believes Volchkova.

American experts note that the main goal of their proposals is to protect the athletes from injuries, which at an early age work for wear and tear.

"Now everyone is just talking about jumping, and people are starting to hurt themselves. How do you want to stop them? If I'm 12 years old, and I know that I can make money only after 18, do you think I will do too many quadruple jumps or as many quads as enough to win to keep my body safe for the future ?.

Why follow Russia? We must follow the reality, and the reality is that you want these children to compete for many years, "said Rafael Harutyunyan.

With an increase in the age limit, Tutberidze will have to seriously change the training of athletes. After all, now the most successful Russian specialist in recent years deals exclusively with juniors. Russian experts believe that the coach will cope with the new task.

"Tutberidze is an outstanding coach. I think that it will be able to integrate into new changes. In the end, Evgenia Medvedev rolled to 18 years and lost only Zagitova at the Olympics, "Zhulin said.

"I think that Tutberidze is ready for this. She is an expert with a capital letter. Yes, adult athletes are already a little bit of a different preparation. But no expert has the right to discuss Eteri's work and give her any advice, "Volchkova noted.

The current world champion among juniors in women's single skating Alexander Trusov, with appropriate work can save quadruple jumps in adult skating, RIA Novosti said two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko .

The Netherlands submitted to the ISU Congress a proposal to raise the minimum age of competitors in adult figure skating to 17 years from the 2020/21 season. Supporters of the idea of the introduction of the qualification argue that juniors are easier to perform complex elements than adults, which makes the length of career in women's singles skating reduced. Trusova, who works under the guidance of Eteri Tutberidze , at 13 years old for the first time in the history of female figure skating she performed a quadruple jump at the competitions - Salchis , and soon in one program she made two quadruples - Salchis and sheepskin coats .

Plushenko for the qualification of 18 years

"I would not want to discuss my colleagues, Eitera Tutberidze is doing great, in my opinion, she is doing her job well, she has a big group that gives results." She has already prepared several Olympic champions. "Tutberidze is a very serious coach. Trusova and (Alena) Kostornaya are already performing complex jumps, and with further appropriate work they can save them by going with them to adult skating, "Plushenko said over the phone.

Posted Image

"It's very hard to do in women's skating because of physiological development, but it's necessary to move in this direction," the coach said, arguing for the establishment of age limits in figure skating.

Plushenko believes that "if you compare a 16-year-old girl with a 25-year-old skater or even a 30-year-old, then, of course, you can see two different skating." "The young can make jumps because they are not yet physically formed, but they can not show expressiveness, I generally for this acceptance, even would support the qualification in the 18 years of transition to adult female figure skating," the specialist said.

"With the qualification, many successful juniors will not cling only here and now for their chances, but they will think how to go for a long time." I tend to believe that figure skating should not be a one-day sport, people should perform long, "Plusushchenko pointed out .

Junior must be trained in quadruplets

The interlocutor of the agency believes that the approval of the age qualification will not affect the complexity of the programs of figure skaters. "The same girls can jump quadruplets in junior starts, and then transfer them to adult skating." It's more difficult to keep these elements, I'll definitely train my juniors four, figure skating should develop. "From the quads we will not go anywhere, everything will come to this, "- said the expert.

https://twitter.com/KissMyBlacklist/status/972849329013690368

"Another thing is that there are sportswomen who can correspond to adult skating at age 15 - by power, by charisma, by promise, by breadth of skiing, by choreography (Olympic champion in 2018 Alina) Zagitova performed last season at a good level. And at this age some manage to show themselves as big sportsmen, "added Plushenko.

After completing two quadruple jumps at the World Junior Championships in Sofia and receiving a record 92.35 points for adults in an arbitrary program, according to adult standards, Alexandra made herself speak. The young figure skater was added popularity by the fact that she trains with Eteri Tutberidze, whose pupils Alina Zagitova and Evgeni Medvedev subdued judges at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. Probably, at such an early age, no Russian athlete received so much attention from fans and the press.

Trusov can not create a full-fledged competition for the world's leading skating. In this sport there are age restrictions - serious international competitions are available from 15 years. Therefore, another season of Alexander will perform on juniors, where her main rival is another pupil Tutberidze - 14-year-old Alyona Kostornaya, who won silver at UChM-18.

Posted Image

Sasha says that in everything equals Evgeny Medvedev. But in practice it is easy to compete with Alina Zagitova. Alina, like Sasha, was more surprised with her technique. In Zhenya - another skating, more plastic and artistic.

By the way, it was the junior world records Zagitova that beat Alexander at the World Championships in Sofia. Absolutely best figures now look like this - 153.49 points for an arbitrary and 225.52 points for the sum of two programs.

Russia’s 2018 Olympic champion in figure skating Alina Zagitova pledged on Sunday she will never follow the lead of her teammate and closest rival, Yevgeniya Medvedeva, and will never part with her coach Eteri Tutberidze.

Welcoming Zagitova at the airport of her home city of Izhevsk, reporters asked her whether she could imagine herself changing her coach like other figure skaters do, she replied definitely: "No, I cannot even imagine that."

Earlier in the month, Russia’s 2018 two-time Olympic silver medalist in figure skating Yevgeniya Medvedeva officially announced her decision to part with her coach Eteri Tutberidze and start working with Canadian specialist Brian Orser.

Zagitova told reporters she planned to resume training sessions from June 4. "My biggest dream now is to simply go on training and stage a program in a way to make spectators feel it as it is very interesting," she said.

Posted Image

She said she plans to spend one day in Izhevsk. On Monday, she will meet with head of the Udmurt Republic Alexander Brechalov and will hold a masterclass for junior figure skaters.

She confessed that when she was just at the beginning of her figure skating career she saw Yevgeny Plushenko dancing on ice in St. Petersburg and looked at him with admiration. So, in her words, such masterclasses are very important for young athletes.

"Because they give an impetus, set a goal to keep on moving to," Zagitova said, adding that her own psychological secret of success is self-confidence and love for figure skating.

Zagitova won gold in women’s singles and silver in team’s event at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea’s PyeongChang.

The Congress of the International Skating Union did not support the proposal of the Netherlands on the introduction of the division of judges in figure skating competitions for those who rate only the level of performance (GOE, Grade of Execution) and only components.

In connection with the discussed increase in the GOE scale from minus 5 to plus 5 instead of the currently existing "minus 3 plus 3", the Netherlands suggested that in competitions from five to seven judges only GOE and only as many program components as the burden on arbitrators will increase significantly.

After discussing the issue, he was voted on in an updated version - on the division of judges into those who evaluate GOE and components in the number of at least five in each category, but from the season-2019/20 and only in the junior Grand Prix series.

During the voting, the proposal did not gain the necessary for the approval of two thirds of the delegates.

The Congress of the International Skating Union (ISU) decided on the limit of jumps in the second part of the short and free programs, which will be marked by an additional coefficient.

The ISU Congress on Tuesday night considered two proposals regarding the number of jumps transferred to the second half - from Canada and Japan. Canadians offered to limit the number of jumps in the second half, receiving a coefficient of 1.1, two in short and four in free programs.

The Japanese suggested marking with an increased coefficient only one last jump in the short program and three final ones in the free program. In the opinion of the authors of the proposal, with such a number of jumps with a bonus, the programs will be more balanced. As a result, the majority supported Japan's proposal.

After that, the Japanese withdrew another vote offered to Congress - to give bonus points to those skaters who showed six different triple and quadruple jumps in a single program in single skating.

The transfer of jumps in the second part of the known Russian Olympic champion Alina Zagitova and two-time world champion Eugene Medvedev.

The special correspondent of RIA Novosti Elena Vaitsekhovskaya explains in the blog of the editorial board who won and who lost from the decisions taken at the congress of the International Skating Union.

When rules change in one or another sport, the first thing you want to understand: who won these changes? The attitude toward this, as practice shows, strongly depends on whether a person is able to turn innovations into his favor or not. If not, then a wave of protest rises. In other words, any rules are always beneficial to someone, and someone is not welcome.

At one time, when the new system of refereeing only became common, opinions about where all these "tsiferki" could lead were diametrically opposed. Some argued that the incomprehensibility of judging (in contrast to the good old system "6.0") will certainly kill the sport. Others argued that the system must inevitably lead figure skating to a qualitative breakthrough.

The last happened: the skaters forcibly placed in an environment at the time of the increased demands were forced to urgently learn new complex steps and elements, approaches, rebuilding, changing the edge of the ridge on the spins and mastering many other things. Most of all, no luck at that time for an adult generation, since it is always difficult to retrain an established athlete. But the next wave of skaters quite confidently owned the whole arsenal, which was previously only available to units.

I believe that approximately the same thing will begin now in the area of quadruple jumps in men.

The process of reaching a qualitatively different level of complexity actually began in the men's single skating a few years ago, when, in addition to the common sheepskin coat and the Salchowy, the leaders began to learn much more complex and, accordingly, rare quadruplets, flip and rytberger. Before that, for many years only the sheepskin coat and the Salchow were in progress.

Legislatively confirmed by the current Congress, innovations have become just a confirmation of the fact that the ISU supports the trend of total complication, but with one caveat: not at any cost. Simply put, in the framework of the corrections made, there is no sense in fulfilling the most expensive of the existing jumps - the quadruple lutz: if it is made with a gross error, the skater will not receive a high score. And it means that it will inevitably reflect on the fact that it is more profitable not to pursue the maximum complexity, but to bet on quality. Approximately as Evan Lysacek did in 2010, who won the gold medal at the Games in Vancouver, not having a single quadruple in the program.

Now, however, this option will not work: in men's single skating there are too many athletes who perform (or at least are able to do) all or almost all the modifications of the quads. For this group of athletes the changes adopted by the ISU Congress are quite formal, in the sense that they do not change the training strategy at all. But for those who are younger, the rules clearly defined the landmark.

In women's skating, the situation is fundamentally different. Restricting premiums for the execution of jumping elements in the second half of the programs, the ISU indirectly achieved exactly what the supporters of the introduction of a higher age bracket urged. Namely - reduced to a minimum the prospect of the advantage, which can be obtained due to the "junior" capabilities of the organism.

A certain "anti-junior" orientation has other points of change. It is not yet clear how they will all work in practice, but in theory, first of all, athletes such as Caitlin Osmond must be the winners: high, powerful and amplitude. Performing jumps not at the expense of children's harshness, but due to physical strength and ideal technique.

Many, I know, are inclined to see in all the innovations approved by the ISU, a specific addressee - Russia. Like, with regard to women's skating, everything is done solely to hit hard on Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze, who has been supplying champions in women's singles for a year already.

On May 4, the Russian figure skater announced the breaking of working relations with Eteri Tutberidze, under the guidance of which the young sportswoman was engaged since 2007. His choice to move to Toronto, Medvedev explained the desire to concentrate on figure skating and continue to compete in the Russian team.

"I am changing the place of training to continue to compete for Russia, to represent the Russian Federation, only for this purpose. I've never had such a place - this is my only home, my home is where my close people are. I do not know much about Toronto, but I was told that it is a beautiful and quiet city. I hope that thanks to such changes in my life I will be able to focus on figure skating, "Medvedev's press service quotes the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

As a result of her last season with Tutberidze, the figure skater won two stages of the Grand Prix, but because of her leg injury she missed the final of the competition. After a recovery period, Medvedev spoke at the European Championships in Moscow, where she took second place, losing to compatriot Aline Zagitova.

At the 2018 Olympics held in Pyeongchang, the 18-year-old Russian woman won silver in team competitions, and became the second in women's skating, losing to Zagitova, who is also a member of the Tutberidze group.
