A thread to discuss Chuck Bass. ^_^

I find Chuck to be such a deliciously complex character. On the one hand, he's completely manipulative and sexy, but on the other hand he's so very insecure and starved for affection. I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts on why it took him so long to finally say the "three words, eight letters" to Blair. I was discussing with one of my 3D friends, and he thought it was because Chuck believes Blair deserves better. I think that's certainly part of it, but I think the bigger part is what was addressed in the finale--fear. We see Chuck's attempts at having a relationship with his father get bitterly rejected again and again. I think Chuck can't tell Blair he loves her at the beginning of the second season because he's afraid she won't say it back. (Which is why he's so intent to get her to say it first circa 2x8.) But after she does say it, my theory doesn't exactly hold up. I guess I think he's afraid she'll change her mind? But why does he finally say it at the end of the finale? What changed between the scene where she's basically begging him to tell her at the party and the final declaration by the limo?
