It looks like, then, there is fairly unanimous interest in the question of what an apostle is. Let's go ahead and make that our first topic for discussion. I think it will probably be easier if we organize our discussion by starting a new topic for each question, so that is what I am doing here. |

Oops, I was wrong. I never replied after all, Aaron. But in my heart and mind I agreed with most or all of what you wrote. I've benefited from this discussion so far. |

So moving forward with the Apostle question, a few things come to mind: 1. Does the Spiritual gift of "apostle" still exist in the church? This is probably a part of a bigger question that gets into the whole basis of the charismatic and pentecostal movements. 2. Should the church appoint apostles and if so, what should be their task? Is this what we would call missionary? Would it be better for us to use the term "apostle" since it would carry with it a fuller, more biblical idea of what a missionary really should be? 3. Do the "signs of an apostle" always have to be the same? Could one apostle differ from another in certain ways. Are there an exact number of signs that someone has to have before he could be considered an apostle? I guess I'm mainly thinking about signs and wonders. Could a church-planter today be considered an apostle even if he isn't gifted with signs and wonders? |
