Well this is new. It's Hank Gethrow here from SuplexScoops.com to come at yuh with the GCW Dirtsheet! We were initially hesitant, but after the incredible growth of GCW (which I discuss more later on), us at SuplexScoops were forced to make this branch, and a lot of us were pretty happy about it. Now, for the breakdown!
- To start, we'll bring up just how big GCW got. We didn't expect a company that's been so hit-or-miss over the years to have a GREAT run out of the blue. Nothing could have predicted it, really. After a slightly dull period a while back, GCW's been growing and getting better ratings. There's a variety of factors we can look at. There's been huge moves in recruitment, a variety of special events (such as the current ongoing tag tournament!), and the overall improvement in the quality of ringwork.
- Talking about recruiting, there's been so much of it a lot of the older names feel like they're getting left in the dust. Week after week, someone gets kicked off of a show, and GCW has a trend of testing new guys out to see if they're worth keeping around. I know from a few guys who got an early boot that they've got a clause saying management can demote talent within the first couple of weeks. The demotion is pretty much a contracted wrestler's worst nightmare: lower pay, no required airtime, and you still have to tour. So with that, a lot of new guys are getting put on shows over old talent, and new guys who outshine older ones obviously get priority. There's not really enough room on one weekly show for the roster they've got.
- There's been rumors but no official word of they could do to get more people airtime. These include another brand, a bi-weekly mini-show, a monthly documentary series, and even a "Big Brother" type show. I can't lay any source to them, but my money's on Bowens saying the latter once or twice, even if just as a joke.
- Speaking of Mr. Bowens, Chad's been confirmed reaching out to old friends and former coworkers for training jobs at GCW. Some of these old friends? HUGE names. I'm talking Manny Fresh, DJ Ando, and TGB. I think they're trying to get deals with some gyms, but that comes from the fact that John Morris teased the hell out of it on social media a bit ago, but he's been known to be a troll on social media.
- AND Speaking of making deals, a few VERY small companies have spoken out on GCW trying to buy them/affiliate with them. Possibly for an official training ground? I'm not really sure, but if they're really trying to expand, I'd be on the lookout. As a side note, they've been seen trying to buy some already established affiliates history so they can sell them in their DVDs and the like. Not a bad move from their part, and would get Nitro Network a LOT of good filler shows.
- APPARENTLY (and honestly I'd believe it), almost everyone up top wants to push Emeralds to be the selling face of GCW. They've had to scramble since what happened to Radcliffe. Emeralds has been pushed into the spotlight too quickly before in the past, but a lot of viewers are happy with seeing him take the lead now. It's honestly a shame they built up Calvin Radcliffe so well just for him to get hurt. Oh! However...
- Calvin Radcliffe is coming back? There's been some words and some evidence pointing towards a return sometime soon. Pretty much everyone's happy, but if Calvin is planning on getting back to where he was there could be some issues. The landscape has changed so much, so Radcliffe is really going to have to work on getting to that level. I don't doubt the former champion could come back strong, but while recovering from his injuries and fighting for the spotlight with all the new talent that they have could prove to be a nightmare.
- Can we talk about the amazing new talent they've signed? If you would have told me back in June that GCW would be getting guys like Carlos Cruz, KJ, and Nikolai Sinclair? I'd have told you you were nuts.
- What's really surprising is, despite having such a stacked roster already, they're still looking for guys. Chad and Lafron have been seen (both together and each solo) at different regional promotions around the East Coast looking for guys to come in. And what REALLY shocks me is they're seriously considering the option of training guys in-house. Like I get it that in-house guys are a pride thing (especially if they hit a home run) and they're pretty loyal, but you've got such great men and women already. We've gotten some pictures through Instagram of Evergreen in what appears to be a training ring with some familiar and some unfamiliar faces.
- Those three, the "Three Musketeers of GCW" if you will, have been having a VERY hard time running the show that they are with the original budget. There's some talks of going public with their stock to get some more funds. They've been offered a contract with TNT to bring their wrestling there, but it was declined. If they don't go public soon, they may need to pull out a loan to make things run smoother. It's not mandatory at this point, but within the next couple of months they could have some luxuries taken away, like getting cheaper/no catering and removing their low ticket prices.
- Remember when Anthony Xavier walked out, then as soon as there was a chance at gold he came right back in? A lot of the guys in the back aren't too happy.
- On a final note, we talk about the main event scene. GCW has been trying to get long-term contracts (GCW contracts are six months maximum at start until renegotiated or a new one is signed) on their top guys, and the last person they did this with was Emeralds after Calvin's injury. A long-term contract would lock a pay at the beginning of each year set by the company, however there is a minimum increase of an 8% raise each year (which gets pretty big when talkin' 'rasslin'). Three superstars have been in the talks of a long-term contact, with a fourth being rumored. This means that at the least, they're looking to put superstars Conall, Cruz, and Johnson (the confirmed three) as franchise wrestlers. If they can score them, GCW can spend time, creative effort, and money molding them into whatever they need on their shows, and they've had a pretty weak main event/upper midcard recently. If I was a betting man, which I am, I'd put money on one of those three being world champ soon.
Well, that's all for now. Until next time, I'm Hank Gethrow, and this was the GCW Dirtsheet by SuplexScoop.com!
