"So, you know who I am, right?" "Yeah, I do." "Good. That makes my job easier." In a long white hallway that seemed to stretch on forever, Stark walked with GCW's backstage interviewer, Willy Gabe. The camera followed them as they walked, in relative silence. Willy tried to start up conversation a couple of times, but Stark's demeanor stopped him from continuing. So, they walked, the clatter of their boots being the only sound that could be heard. The hallway ended quite abruptly into a room overlooking the skyline of New Haven. A sharply dressed bald man in his early 30s shakes Stark's hand, and gestures them towards the sofas propped up in a L-shape. The coffee table in the middle has a fairly large pizza propped up on it. Stark walks towards one of those sofas, and throws himself on it in one fluid motion. Gabe sits on the other, clearly in love with the Pizza right in front of him. "May Iā?" "Of course, Heston here arranged it for you, go for it." Michael grabs an asymmetrical slice on his own, and takes a bite out of it, as if giving Gabe the go-ahead to gorge in, which he does. "Sally's makes the best pizza around here, and I usually never get a chance to indulge..." Fade out to white. [20 minutes later] "So, the first question might be the most obvious, but it's the biggest one left unanswered. What of IBW?" "What of IBW? It was not going to be a profitable venture anymore, not with HBO breathing against our neck to terminate the contract and look elsewhere. So, I sold it. Best decision I made for myself, really since it gave me the most money I could freely spend since, what...2013? Yeah, I've been having a lot of fun, as you can see. " "But who exactly did you sell the company to?" "Ooooh, the most logical solution of course. Someone who has years of experience handling Wrestling Companies, someone who has been the General Manager of four different shows, been the backstage co-ordinator of tons of wrestling events, CEO, COO, you name it. When it came to IBW, I tackled it like a wrestler, not a businessman. I see that now. Ayden Starr is not a rookie like me to make the same mistake, and I think she'll do an excellent job." "So you sold it to your own wife?" "Why not? She's one of the most qualified people around, knows her talent and I trust her with my own life." " Well, when you put it like that, it does seem obvious. What about GCW? What's your end goal here?" "Have fun. Beat Chad up. I should be more invested in what happens here, but I don't. I came here for the noise, basically. Unless something changes, my plan right now is to run through everyone in this place and then... I don't know. I am sure I will be stopped eventually, and then it is just the matter of crushing that obstacle irrecoverably, and moving on as if nothing has happened. I don't plan on working week-in week-out either. I'm bigger than that." "But if you lose your match to Kevin Smith, you might have to do just that. What about ring rust? Aren't you afraid of that?" "Ring rust? You don't know who I am after all, it would seem. Because I don't have ring rust. Last match I had, October, last year. Against Musebomb. I tore the house down, mostly because I am always in great shape, a little because Musebomb is a damn fine wrestler. So, yes, if I was any other wrestler, I probably would have generated a lot of ring rust. Kevin Smith is a good enough wrestler, and he's hungry for the win. I like that, and I'm not going to say he'll be a particularly tough challenge, but according to the transcript that Hector gave me, he plans on beating me up like I've never been beaten before. Frankly, that's stupid." "I...cannot disagree with that as well. You have a decorated career and there has been some very gruesome highlights. I doubt he could top that in a GCW TV pre-main event match. Speaking of which, what are your thoughts on the card placement?" "To be honest, it makes sense because they still see me as an IBW invader. Of course they'll push home-grown talent more, and I don't fault them for that. That will change, though, mark my words." "Alright, that's enough for today. Thank you for your time, and for the hearty welcome in your home." "It has been my pleasure, Gabe. Now, leave. I have things to do." Fade out to White. [5 hours later] "Sir, you have an call from Mrs Stark, on line #1." "Patch it over, Heston." A muffled voice is heard from the other side of the desk telephone. "You could've called my personal number, why did ā Oh. Right. So.." [indistinct response] "And?.." [indistinct response] "What do you mean it's positive?" The response on the other side makes Stark take sharp, quick breaths, and he grips the edge of the desk with his left hand. Panic flashes over his face, followed by fear, anxiety, and finally, joy. "I think my life just changed." [Fin.] |
