2011 COMPETITION

The 2009 BookFair arranged the Short Short Short Story Competition, which drew a flood entries
(prizewinners were announced on the day of the Fair). These entries were compiled into a delightful book,
published in 2010, called Fourteen-word Stories from the Centre of the Universe, with some copies still available.

This year we are organising a different type of writing competition entitled “THE QUESTION”.

How does it work? The organisers provide THE ANSWER and you have to provide a suitable
QUESTION to fit the Answer, in between 5 to 25 words.

For example: if the Answer is ‘Scrambled’ – the Question might then be : ‘How would you like your eggs
this morning, Madam?’

So go ahead! Choose one (or many) of the following Answers and create a Question to fit it:

1. Red.
2. Twenty-one.
3. The Wall (also allowed: On/Off the Wall)
4. The Job (also allowed: A Job/On the Job)

Rule 1: Questions are powerful! Pack a punch in your Question!
Rule 2: Go where those creative urges take you! – whether, dramatic, poetic, fancipul, or humorous...

Email your Questions to: mwjane2@mweb.co.za or ctapson@iafrica.com by noon on Monday 18th
April 2011, giving your age (under 16, or 16 and over).
VENUE : The Bookfair will be held, on Easter Sunday April 24th at the Old Drostdy, as before (well
signposted from the central crossroads of Bathurst). Stallholders will set up at about 8.30 and be open for
Bookbuyers from 9.30 am until 2 pm. Towards the end of the morning the prizewinners for the current
annual Competition, ‘The Question’, will be announced.
