The Affinities are psychic, spirit, light, dark, growth, decay, space, and "blank" (aka a lack of an affinity). There is a god for each affinity, and these gods can grant your pets moves and abilities in return for loyalty to that god as your pet levels up, they go up a skill tree with that god, unlocking different moves and abilities depending on what branch you pick. You can switch affinities at any time, but because of the change in loyalty, your pet will be forced to start at the bottom of the other skill tree. Elements, on the other hand, are also a form of magic but inherent to the world and not controlled by the gods. The elements are fire, water, air, metal, earth, sugar, ice (considering replacing this one with plant....), toxic, and "blank" (aka a lack of element) elements are actually genetically based, and the moves associated with them can only be gained by careful breeding. Pets can have 'points' in each element, up to ten points. So a red Nekomera might get +1 point to fire, while a blue one might get a plus one to water, while one with venomous fangs might get +1 to toxic (and a blue nekomera with fangs would have 1 in water AND 1 in toxic.) As a result, a pet's elements can pretty much be customized, though some species have a tendency toward one element or another (for example, all Ferrosaurs have at least 3 points in metal because they are made of metal) having a higher amount of points in an element gives them access to more powerful elemental attacks and abilities, though there are some that some species cant learn regardless (you can't learn fire fang if you don't have a mouth, regardless of how many points you have in fire) however, the more points you have in an element, the more weak that pet is to that element's weakness as well. So a pet with 5 points in fire would take a lot more damage from a single water attack than a pet with 1 point in fire |
