Name: Kai Parikh Aliases/Nickname: None Gender: Agender, uses they/them/their pronouns Orientation: Panromantic, possibly demisexual Age: 20 years Birthday: August 17th Occupation/Major: Pursuing a BFA in Theater Arts, focusing on Stage & Production Management; they earn money from working for the campus's disability resource center, tutoring local high school kids, and occasional odd jobs (usually building or painting things). Kai is also an assistant stage manager in the Saunders Theatre and an active participant in Cooper University's PRIDEntity club. Year: Freshman Housing: Off-campus with their dad. Height: 4'11" Build: Kai has muscular shoulders, a slightly indented waist, and a bit of a belly. They are a little dysphoric about their wide hips and thick thighs, and often wear a binder to minimize their chest. Skin Tone: Golden brown, with freckles spattered randomly over their face, chest, and shoulders. Hair: Thick, coarse, and naturally black; currently shaved into a short warhawk with the tips bleached and dyed bright turquoise. Eyes: Brown and slightly tilted, with very little visible crease and medium-length eyelashes. Straight, thick eyebrows, which are meticulously maintained but never over-groomed. Identifying Marks: A cascade of pink, yellow, purple, and green stars in multiple sizes and styles runs down their left arm. Appearance: Kai prefers to wear loose, androgynous clothing in sensible styles. They often shop in thrift stores and tend to wear their clothing until it wears out, especially since their hobbies can be rough on clothes, so they're often seen sporting rips, paint splotches, and more. The vast majority of their wardrobe consists of various shades of black, mostly because it's convenient, but they're not averse to colors. It's just easier for them to find clothing they like in black or other neutral shades. They are never seen without their glasses and always wear closed-toed shoes like sneakers or boots. Family:
Best Friends:
Relationship Status: Single, with intense feelings about pretty people. Significant Other(s): None Other Relationships: TBD, send me a message.
Personality: Kai was raised to believe that every person has a responsibility to the world and the other people in it. While they don't follow all of their father's beliefs, they live life by a strict code of conduct, and strive to be honest, disciplined, kind, and tolerant. Their professors have no complaints about Kai's work ethic or grades, and their peers find them to be a good listener and a supportive friend. However, despite their mild-mannered personality, Kai is considered somewhat of a tyrant backstage. Brutally efficient, they put their control-freak tendencies to good use keeping everything running smoothly and on schedule. They don't tolerate disrespect from any member of the cast or crew, are by turns understanding and unforgiving, and are always at the ready with a roll of duct tape, an extra script, or anything else that might be required in the course of a rehearsal or a show. Privately, Kai struggles with dysphoria, self-image, and issues of identity, but they try never to let anyone else see their problems. Instead, they cope by working harder to become whatever anyone needs of them at any given moment. Keeping busy and checking things off their to-do list helps them to feel accomplished and in control. They struggle to sleep at night and have worked around this by taking mostly afternoon classes, allowing them to sleep in the morning, go to class in the afternoon, and then use the rest of the evening for work, club activities, and rehearsals. Motivations: Kai loves to be in control of all situations all the time, and seeks constant stimulation, validation, and praise - proof that they are worthy of other peoples' time and attention, despite all the ways in which they feel unworthy. Goals: In the short term, Kai would like to become the next stage manager when the current one graduates. Longer-term, they would really like to find a career managing Off-Broadway and then On-Broadway shows. The frantic pace of backstage, the necessity of efficiency and organization, and the requirement for creative solutions to a variety of problems call to them. Best Quality: Extremely adaptive. Kai is easily able to come up with a number of creative solutions to any problem, as long as they have enough information, and if they don't know they're not shy about finding someone who does. Worst Quality: Kai has a tendency to overwork to the point of exhaustion, and then keep on going to the point of collapse. When they're tired, their honesty easily turns tactless and blunt, and they become obstinate, irritable, and generally unpleasant to be around. Fears: Kai's greatest fear is that they're actually worthless, a poor substitute for the great love of their father's life and a waste of other peoples' time. They fear being a bother, so they insist on being as useful as humanly possible to everyone around them. Hobbies: Watching movies, particularly ones that are entertaining but not otherwise very good; volunteering; singing off-key renditions of various soundtracks. Talents/Skills: Kai loves all aspects of the theatre, and spent their high school years operating the lighting and sound systems, learning to build sets, scavenging for props, doing costume makeup, and painting backdrops. They've been honing these skills, as well as learning to sew (at least enough to fix minor costume issues). Outside of the theatre, they have a talent for memorizing and telling slightly awful jokes, are able to manifest a frighteningly good poker face, and have extremely neat handwriting. Special Abilities: None Limitations: None, other than being a squishy human being. Considerations: None Backstory: After their mother died when Kai was just two years old, they were raised by their single father in a small apartment in what was formerly Ventura, CA. They attended a public primary and secondary school before earning a scholarship to Cooper University. While their life has been uneventful so far, Kai dreams of traveling to far-off places and working on major shows, perhaps even marrying these two dreams by working with a touring theater company someday. |
