Imperial Research Center

Imperial Research Center is an institution in Grast which dabbles in research and development of various fields. This institution is said to be funded and managed by the House of Renouille, one of noble houses in Grast that included within the Emperor's inner circle. While the direct access to Imperial Research Center is extremely restricted, they are affiliated to numerous other academy and research institution throughout the continent of Grast. It was said that the Imperial Research Center spread the knowledge and their research results to those institutions in the past. However, the appearances of Blue Breakers had limited their scope into the [Special Capital Region], as most of academies within the [Developing Area] were rendered inactive due to the presence of those juggernauts.

The active researches of Blue Breakers in one particular academy in one of [Developing Area] apparently roused their attention towards their previous connections outside the [Special Capital Region]. With the help from the Imperial Wizards who were also affiliated with them, the Imperial Research Center has started the efforts to reestablish the connection with academies and/or research facilities or institutions around the [Developing Area] of Grast.

As the first step of fulfilling their intention, the Imperial Research Center published the very first magic item formulae that was ever produced in Grast, thanks to the research and reverse-engineering efforts from Beacon Academy. Hopefully, there will be more of formulae produced, as well as any progress with Blue Breaker or even Essence/Shards research in the future.

Downtime Activity: Shards Research
(Available from 664年8月23日)

The magic item research has resulted the formulae that allows the recreation of magical artifacts. However, the recreation itself is heavily dependent on Shards that currently can be made only by Glyph Gear Wielders by extracting essence that leaked by slain Blue Breakers. Therefore, while hikding the rights of magic item recreation formula might looks like a potentially profitable business, but the limited means to perform it held the interest of potential market.

The findings of 'ancient shards', which was said had no resonance with the Glyph Gear Wielders, surfaced the theory that there might be ways to produce Shards without Wielders' involvements. Some attempts to replicate 'ancient shards' had been done by other parties, but there was no attempt to research the shards produced by Glyph Gear Wielders yet. Hence, Imperial Research Center, cooperating with Imperial Wizards of Grast and other parties, initiated the research of Shards which unfortunately can only be done with Wielders' involvements.

-----Updates per 664年10月20日

Imperial Research Center gained an additional researcher since the Ninth Month of Year 664. After a month of probation period, Samuel Elbert has now officially accepted in Shards Research Team (SRT) which led by the Imperial Wizard apprentice, Sagitta Millward. SRT, which now consisted of IRC's researchers, some helpers from Glyphrock, and Samuel Elbert as the recent addition, is ready to provide better assistance for the Glyph Gear Wielders in the Shards research.

Downtime Activity: Magic Item Research

After learning that a fruitful attempt in reverse engineering an ancient artifact done in Beacon Academy of Leuchtfeuer wasn't immediately published due to the academy's condition and other unfortunate incidents, Imperial Research Center decided to quickly reestablish the connection with academies and learning centers in [Developing Area] of Grast. Their main intention is for helping the academies and institutions in Grast to publish the result of their research, while also helping them by purchasing the rights of Magic Item Formula they produced from the reverse engineering attempt.

Other individuals and parties must pay a large sum of fortunes to Imperial Research Center to gain the access of the formula. Fortunately, Imperial Research Center allows Glyph Gear Wielders to obtain the formulas without any fees, although they must visits the academies and/or research institutions directly to access the formulas. This policy was made as the the known magical artifacts that was stored in Beacon Academy, where the reverse engineering efforts started in Grast, were mostly found or excavated with the Wielders' involvements. With this policy, the Imperial Research Center hoped the Glyph Gear Wielders are willing to help them in expanding their libraries of Magic Item Formula via their affiliated academies and research institutions.

Mechanics

1. Available Locations: There are currently two available locations for Glyph Gear Wielders or other interested parties to place the Magic Item that want to be reverse engineered in Grast: Beacon Academy and Haven Academy in Leuchtfeuer region. Each location has their own characteristics in performing the reverse engineering effort. The location choice might change or expand in the future.

2. Submission: To submit Magic Item to the available research location, contact the location's owner/DM via Discord's direct/private messages.

3. Beacon Academy: There are two options of how reverse engineering is conducted in Beacon Academy:
  • Formula of one Magic Item will be obtained in 28 Days after the Magic Item submission. There is 50% chance of the Magic Item to be lost forever in the end of reverse engineering attempt.
  • Glyph Gear Wielders may spent 7 Days of Downtime Activities to accelerate one ongoing reverse engineering attempt with an Intelligence (Arcana) check. Ability Check DC will be randomized for each Magic Item submitted to Beacon Academy for the reverse engineering purpose. If the check succeed, the magic item is intact. If the check failed, the magic item is lost forever. Regardless of the check result, the reverse engineering attempt will yield Magic Item Formula.
  • Procedures for accelerating one ongoing reverse engineering attempt is as follows:
    1. State [Beacon Academy Magic Item Research] in Discord #bot-playtest channel by mentioning @Norowas.
    2. Choose one ongoing magic item research listed under Beacon Academy for the downtime.
    3. State the dates you wish to use for the Downtime (Require 7 Days).
    4. State Spell (Guidance and Enhance Ability) or Feature (Familiar) or Feat (Lucky) you want to use for the roll attempt.
    5. Roll the skill check.
    6. Two or more PCs may work together as long as they spend same dates for the Downtime Activity.
Ability Check DC Randomizer

4. Haven Academy: There is only one option of how reverse engineering in conducted in Haven Academy: Formula of one Magic Item will be obtained in 28 Days after the Magic Item submission. The Magic Item is guaranteed to be intact in the end of reverse engineering attempt.

5. Implication: At the first glance, there is no major implication between choosing Beacon Academy and Haven Academy aside of chance to lose the Magic Item. A thorough investigation, however, might uncover something else that might become some point of considerations on making the choices between the two Academies.
Special Downtime

Contact Grast Sub Narrator if your character wish to make an Intelligence/Wisdom (Investigation) attempt with DC 25 to uncover a hidden truth behind the two choices. There is no Day required to do this downtime. However, for each failed check, the DC will increase by 1d6 for the related character. A character without any rank in Investigation or class features similar to Jack of All Trades/Channel Divinity: Knowledge of the Ages will have the DC increased by 5.
