Scripture reading: Romans 1:20

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Who is the God of gods?

In the old days, people used to worship various gods. You’d have your sun god, your harvest goddess, your war god, and so on. And you could determine the nature of that god by looking at whatever he was the god of.

Take, for example, Dionysus, the god of wine and revelry. You can guess that he likes to party and he’s not too bright, sort of the god of frat boys. Or Hera, the goddess of the household, revenge, and scorned women. No one’s going to look into her mythology and be surprised that she’s not a very nice wife (not that her husband’s the greatest guy).

At this point, you’re probably wondering how this relates to the one true God, Someone you wouldn’t think compares to any of the fakes. The thing is, we worship the God of everything. This means that you can look at anything in the world and catch a glimpse of Who He is.

He’s the God of the Grand Canyon and of Mount Everest. This shows that he is a mighty God, a God who can work wonders, a God whose perspective is so far above ours that what seems important to us is but a speck on his consciousness.

And yet, he’s the God of sparrows. Matthew 10:29 says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.” Most people consider these birds worthless but the Lord considers them sacred. He is the God of the small as well as the big.

Yahweh is also the God of the platypus. Among other things, this teaches us that He has a sense of humor. You may this sounds ridiculous, but I can assure you I’ve had experiences with my Heavenly Father that just made me stop and burst out laughing.

We worship a God who is infinitely deep, infinitely complex, and no one part of creation can give us a whole picture. Maybe that’s why we have so much creation to look at.

All this said, there is one thing nearer to the Lord’s heart than anything else, something more sacred to Him, more precious, more reflective of His nature. That special thing is us. Humans are the ones made in God’s image; no animal or plant has this distinction. Jesus said that no sparrow falls to the ground apart from the will of the Father, but he continues to say, “you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Not even the angels have this honor. The Father sent His only Son to die for our sins, not theirs. In 1 Peter 1:12 we see that the angels long to know firsthand the gospel. They will never know the feeling of redemption the way we can.

Reflection: Look at the world around you and realize that God is the God of everything, and try to find out something about Him that you never saw before. Then, look at your own self and realize that as a human being you represent Him more than anything else in the universe. Once that sinks in, think about what you do on a daily basis and then consider how that reflects on God. If you’re like me, you’ll realize you’re going to need to make a lot of changes in how you live.

I agree, in the earlier years, like say, the first 4,000 years of earth's life (B.C. years), men became wicked and started worshipping other gods by depending on them as 'forces of nature'; and so, over time these'forces of nature' grew into gods and godesses like Neptune, Jupiter, Venus, Zeus, etc. :ninja:

Sorry, i know stuff about greek and roman mythology and well, Zeus is the equivolent of Jupiter, Venus is Aphrodite, and Neptune Poisedon. Jupiter is the God of the Gods(Not) Venus Goddes of love, and Neptune God of the Ocean. All ficitonal, but the one thing they resembled most, was man. That is why our God is unique, he isn't biased, or deceitful, or any of the things the greek Gods were, he is God, and a heck of a lot smarter than us. ;)

I didn't know about that yahweh thing that is funny. And going back this is kind of irrellevant to the topic. But I hate when scientists say we have been here for millions and billions of years. I think we have been here 10-15 thousand years at most, or since 10000 bc. Because the time frame of the new testament is only a copule hundred years, and the old testament is somewhere between 4000 and 10000. Because there was a time frame where man lived really long before the flood. Noah was like 600, and methuselah was like 900ish.

Well, I guess the reasons why scientists say that is because everything we observe in nature makes it look like our planet is almost 5 billion years old. It's the same kind of observations that leads most scientists to the conclusion that the earth is a spherical-ish body moving through space rather than a circle which is hung up in the skies.

EDIT: Oh, just noticed this is in the Bible Lessons. I did not mean this as a comment on anything biblical, just a comment on Godzillas statement about scientists. I'll remove this post if wanted.
